The reason that they sound so different when paired has got to be phasing, right? Which means that when they're paired we hear only the difference between the two respective frequency responses.

Sounded all pretty similiar when they are isolated until you paired them and then way different. Just my opinion but I like the sound of the stock chip the most. Thanks for the video!

And this is only with one setting on the pedal. Brian Wampler has added several tone shaping options. I just wanted to isolate the amps. And your right. I can only hear slight differences with the different opamps until they are combined. And some of that could be the way I liked up the tracks in my DAW. Thanks for watching.

When paired up, I preferred the rat LM308. Great comparison. Thanks!

Try an LT1357 op amp. Quiet, plenty of bite and tight bass but a little less harshness/ear fatigue vs the stock TL071

Any idea what Brian’s reasons are for choosing the op amp he did? I see that LM308s aren’t cheap, but is availability the issue? I know Brian advertises the switchable op amp feature of the Rat’s Bane.
BTW this pedal literally had me giggling in less than 10 minutes. Pushing it with a moderate overdrive and keeping RB gain down goes some crazy places. Also, none of the demos I’ve seen show that it actually cleans up pretty well. The volume and gain controls are VERY sensitive and there’s shit tons of gain to be had, but you can dial it back to a balance point where your guitar volume and playing dynamics do some really fun stuff.

I believe that it was a cost analysis. He has put out several videos on how the opamp does not have a ton of effect on the sound. There are slight variances but not a major change. And he did point out that you could change the opamp if you want in this.

Thanks a lot! Very instructive :)

the differences when you're pairing then are 100% due to phase cancellation, so you can't actually hear which ones are better or worse, because you're not hearing what they actually sound like but just how different they are from each other

Could you stack 2 of them together? And if you can would it get you closer to fuzz territory

I did not have one at the time. I have since gotten a few.

i assume you already have schematics?

No. Since he said it is pretty much a clone of a Rat I did not see an advantage to tracing it.
