Like a Bullet in the Head - First Impression of the Madbean Pedals Gas Tank & Junk Trunk
This is really only the second time I have plugged these 2 pedals in. I don't play bass very often so I am never sure what to play. I like this combination. Can't wait until I can get it into a room where I can really crank it up. I feel like you can do some seriously heavy ambient music with this.
Once I can get a few more PCBs I will make a few pairs and put them up on reverb.
I have writeups for the hand painted ones on my site:
Gas Tank: www.pachydermpedals.com/pedals/117/
Junk Trunk: www.pachydermpedals.com/pedals/118/
I will be making the UV prints available in the near future. (For me that means some time in the next 6 months :). )

Purple People Eater: Creating Art for the Madbean IMP
Просмотров 1643 года назад
This is the one eyed, one horned, flying purple people eater. It is a Klon clone from mad bean pedals that I got for free with an order. I decided to build it for my niece who was turning 13 and was getting into guitar. Once I played it I really wished I still had it but she is my "favorite" so it went off to her. This is really a speed run of the art because the original is over 2 hours long. ...

    Thanks! Really enjoyed this. Other troubleshooting tutorials are often based on already knowing the answer. But you not only show the process but also the thinking and the discoveries you make along the way. It's real, and that is what most of us go through. So thanks also for that aspect. Is the KoT from Rullywow? That was my first build. Well I sourced the parts and then watched my friend build it. And learned enough to soon start building my own.

    the differences when you're pairing then are 100% due to phase cancellation, so you can't actually hear which ones are better or worse, because you're not hearing what they actually sound like but just how different they are from each other

    I can never get the pilot hole right, the bit always wanders off the divot left by the center punch. The small 1.5mm bit takes a long time to drill through. Is my drill not powerful enough? It's 12V.

  • @ErebosGR

    The reason that they sound so different when paired has got to be phasing, right? Which means that when they're paired we hear only the difference between the two respective frequency responses.

    Very cool, nice job on those pedals. How many pedals can you cover with the 32 oz of that epoxy? I was thinking of using self etching primer, then acrylic paint, then this epoxy, you think it will hold up well over time?

    What’s your typical cure time on the epoxy?

    • @manicmusic329
      @manicmusic329 3 года назад

      In about 2 to 3 hours I can stop worrying about drips. In 24 I can not worry about dust. If I grab it I may get prints in it. By 48 hours I typically remove the backing tape and sometimes drill. Though occasionally it will pull away from the paint. After 72 it is good to go. I will usually box up the circuit if I have more than 60 hours of cure time.

      @@manicmusic329 thank you! Great info in very usable format there. Two more questions: do you ever use an anti-static mat? Heat sinks? I only used my anti-static mat when building a PC, but I’ve used heat sinks often when building an amp (capacitors and diodes, not resistors).

    • @manicmusic329
      @manicmusic329 3 года назад

      @@chipsterb4946 haven't used heat sinks. All my ICs are socketed so heat is not a problem. The only thing I think I ever burned out was an LED. Since the helping hand I use at times use metal alligator clips, they act as sinks at times. And no anti static. Just the silicon mat so I don't burn any surfaces.

    Any idea what Brian’s reasons are for choosing the op amp he did? I see that LM308s aren’t cheap, but is availability the issue? I know Brian advertises the switchable op amp feature of the Rat’s Bane. BTW this pedal literally had me giggling in less than 10 minutes. Pushing it with a moderate overdrive and keeping RB gain down goes some crazy places. Also, none of the demos I’ve seen show that it actually cleans up pretty well. The volume and gain controls are VERY sensitive and there’s shit tons of gain to be had, but you can dial it back to a balance point where your guitar volume and playing dynamics do some really fun stuff.

    • @manicmusic329
      @manicmusic329 3 года назад

      I believe that it was a cost analysis. He has put out several videos on how the opamp does not have a ton of effect on the sound. There are slight variances but not a major change. And he did point out that you could change the opamp if you want in this.

    • @manicmusic329
      @manicmusic329 3 года назад

      And this is only with one setting on the pedal. Brian Wampler has added several tone shaping options. I just wanted to isolate the amps. And your right. I can only hear slight differences with the different opamps until they are combined. And some of that could be the way I liked up the tracks in my DAW. Thanks for watching.

    Hey, I am slowly starting to build more complicated pedal kits. Could you give a short explanation what was wrong here and how you figured it out? My knowledge about electronics is not much and I would like to understand how to use device like this to look for problems. Or would I need to study more electronics first, to fully understand the process or to "know what I am doing" with the testing device? Like, is it self explanatory if you know whats going on in the circuit? Thanks in advance and stay safe!
