    Thanks for the entertaining and informative vids Andrea and Zack. I had a 2005 Hyundai SF (3.5L) for 10 years and the only problem aside from brakes, tires, etc. was that my rotors warped after only around 40k miles and I only had 1 recall (the very last year I had the car) for a bolt on each tie rod end that was rusting. I went to the dealer and they resolved that in about 45 minutes. In 2015 I traded it in (with only 65K miles on it) for a 2016 SF Sport which I still own (9 years old). I've had 5 recalls on it but it has never given me any issues at all. I'd like to also mention that I do not even burn / lose a drop of oil between oil changes which I get about every 4,500 miles. I love to drive around town in manual mode (car seems to have much more power) and when I get on open highway I just put the gear selector in "drive". I'm a 75 year old who still likes to have fun driving. I've never had to add oil to either car between oil changes and I've enjoyed both Hyundai's I've owned and intend to get a Tucson or Sportage next spring.

    I have a love/ hate relationship with Hyundai/kia. I lost my 2008 Hyundai entourage to engine failure at 7 years. Currently own 2019 Kia Sorento EX and 2020 Kia sportage EX tech. Love both vehicles but both burn oil and starting to make that bad engine pinging. I’m super diligent with oil changes- all via dealership while under warranty. Thinking of getting rid of these because of my entourage failed. My brother just had his 2017 Santa fe engine replaced due to oil consumption issues. My father-in-law is constantly topping up his 2017 Sante Fe with oil and his dealership shafted him by telling him the oil consumption monitoring program is not available. It is- I just enrolled with my Sorento. I convinced him to trade it in for a Buick envision avenir (thanks to Zack and Andrea). Finally, my next door neighbour Kia optima has engine knock issues. It seems every Kia - Hyundai around me has issues- I’m looking to sell mine for Japanese vehicles. I’ve trusted Zach for decades- but my experience and confidence with Kia- Hyundai is just not there anymore. Still watch this channel religiously. Best channel on YT, especially for us Canucks.

    You can buy vehicles that you like rather than for reliability. That tells me you have the financial ability to not worry about paying for repairs after the warranty expires and constantly running to the dealer for repairs. Many people today, myself included, buy a vehicle because of the reliability because I keep my vehicles for many years and do not have that luxury.

    I've been in a situation where THREE WEEKS was the wait for an oil change on my F150. I just went to another dealer. You might think the selling dealer would be more accommodating. Then, the same dealership spilled oil all over my Maverick when it went in for its first oil change. They had moved to a newer facility which had a rapid lube lane but using a funnel was beyond their capabilities. I've given up on them. These are not free oil changes, and I expected a little more care as the Maverick's fill port is so easy to reach.

    6:22 I recently bought a manual transmission Jeep Wrangler and am happy to report it did come with (to my surprise) with adaptive cruise control (as well as regular non-adaptive cruise control). It also comes with auto stop-start (which doesn't bother me most of the time). Obviously as soon as I start to put the clutch in to shift down, the ACC turns itself off. There's no hill holder but fortunately it has a traditional handbrake and I learned a long time ago how to use that when starting on a hill.

    Tucson Hybrid owner here. I have 30 years of reservations but decided to given them a chance.
    Cons then Pros
    USA has a longer warranty but less consumer protection here, so there are some horror stories about the warranty claims denied.
    Kia/Hyundai was the poor credit brand. Their dealers reputation.... were scummy. That said. Nissan and Mazda were also, at one point.
    Hyundia/Kia' 4 cycl. Theta engines failures caused a lot of headaches for alot people. even if they replace your engine, how much time and money was lost... what about the people that do not have a 2nd car or mass transit?
    Kia Boyz Theft in the US.
    Alot of people had their cars stolen due to the lack of a security chip/transponder, and the Key tumbler was the shape of a USB, making them easy to steal. This lead to insurance companies denying coverage for affected models.
    Pros.
    Some of the early 2000s models are were just as reliable as the Japanese counterparts but had no styling differences, leading to the copycat reputations.
    But the 2010s was bad.
    The 1.6's were safe. But they had may lawsuits that decade. So buyer beware of used models.
    Hyundai Assurance 2009.
    remember the world financial crisis? Hyundai let you return your car if you lost your job during the WFS. Other companies mimick this program durng C19.
    If SHTF in the next few years, I expect Hyundai/Kia would do the same
    Hyundai Heavy industries, steel, parts suppliers and electronics are all integrated. That family owns half of South Korea.
    cross shop and test drive. are Honda or Toyota better build? mostly yes. is it $x more? mostly no.

    I work as a technical expert for car insurance companies and leasing companies. I see damaged engined on a weekly basis, but not because of oil changes that are 2.000 miles overdue, but because of 30.000 kilometer oil change intervals. A lot of modern engines are damaged before the first regular oil change.

      @stuntmonkey00 2 дня назад +2

      But are they really? Yeah, you could go on YT and see dozens of oil-guy videos with alarmist tests on the amount of metallicity in the first oil change... but does that actually mean anything to the real-world longevity of the engine? It's not like cars are prematurely dying because they followed the factory schedule instead of doing a short first oil change interval.

    • @Carnold_YT
      @Carnold_YT 2 дня назад +1

      @@stuntmonkey00 I think I know who you mean by 'alarmists', they often test the oil after the break in period. So you can expect a lot of metal contents in your oil. I am referring to factory prescribed oil change intervals, together with low viscosity oil. Last week I had to inspect a three year old Volvo V60 with 180.000 km's. The car only had 5 oil changes over this period ( not even a break-in oil change) and was just out of warranty. All of this is according to the manufacturers specifications. It now needs a 15.000 euro engine replacement because all rod and main bearings are gone.

I remember test driving a ‘98 Hyundai Excel. It felt like it was held together with duct tape and glue and the powertrain was anemic. Having said that, I know Hyundai has improved 1000% but personally, they do nothing for me. They’re great vehicles but not something I’m interested in driving.

      See if it changes. The Murano is finally get a redesign including a new engine. Gone will be the 3.5 V6 with CVT, and in will be a turbo-4 cyl with less HP, although the torque will be up. I was once a Hyundai/Kia hater. Until i observed what the brand was doing and started my own research. I was amazed at what i could get for the money! I bought a 2017 Hyundai Elantra Limited when it was new. 7 years later, there were no mechanical issues and still under warranty. And it's the most reliable car I ever owned. I still get compliments on my car. Some people think it's an Audi or BMW the way it looks. I call it the "Korean Jetta." And it makes sense because Hyundai/Kia/Genesis has German designers and engineers. My car is well equipped for being 7 years old. I have memory seating, navigation, power sunroof, tilt side mirrors, smart cruise control, heated front and rear seats, and was the 1st compact mainstream car to offer Apple Carplay/Android Auto at the time. This is why I chose it over Civic and Corolla. The features I have now are still not offered on newer models of the Civic and Corolla. Which says a lot. Now I'm ready for an upgrade. The new 2025 Kia K4 GT-Line turbo is at the top of my list! I can't wait for it to hit dealer lots!
