You gotta understand what he intended. He didn't wanna make a purple rain 2, or make a commercially great movie 2 make a lotta money. He did this movie out of passion, and it has a meaning. It's not bad it's just not a purple rain movie. Prince wouldn't do a movie if it wasn't good. I do agree that it wasn't as good as purple rain, but you gotta respect this movie. i feel like everybody shits on everything prince made if it wasn't purple rain and it drains me. you gotta understand the man! (Obviously not directed at Prince-friends. just an angry ramble at critics).
Prince had been developing a musical movie for several years since I think about 1987 prior, the film was supposed to have been more of a musical rather than nightclub live performances, which in some parts it still had that, especially if Prince had kept the deleted original intro scene of him, Prince, dancing up and down Seven Corners around all the movies characters, totally has a musical feeling, it's a shame it was cut, it's brilliant. The film had initial roles for Madonna who practically spat on it and threw it back at Prince's face, then Kim Basinger bowed out after or during their breakup, then Jill Jones was to play the female lead, Prince pulled it from Jill (she was furious) and gave the finally heavily modified female lead role to Ingrid Chavez. I think the movie suffers only because Prince RUSHED it to keep up with the much hyped Batman Burton film momentum of the previous year and feeling the pressures of WB to repeat a Purple Rain. Prince got stuck in having to have a movie, or tied to a movie for any major hits, and by the time WBs got more involved, they appeared to have made into more a retelling of Purple Rain than a sequel, all filmed mostly INSIDE Prince's Paisley Park Studios, which in my view gives the movie a confined music video feel and the film quality also had changed by then which I think affected the aesthetics and film mood. Jerome was reduced to nothing when he was so brilliant in Under The Cherry Moon, and Dr. Fink, where was he in the movie? Very strange, very, very strange. What Graffiti Bridge meant, well, I think I figured it out, here's a hint: think of where your pets go whey they leave us, where will you see them again, where will you find them? Where will you hope to find your long gone loved ones again? Exactly.
even I have this movie, as much as I'm a prince fan, also like Morris Day. I 100% agree the review, the picture was real foggy, music wasn't exciting enough to be entertainment, unlike purple rain. The story was awkward & strange performance . Real disappointing film.
Both Graffiti Bridge & Under The Cherry Moon looked so stupid I couldn't begin to watch either. Tried and got through a few minutes of each not very good at all. 👎🏻
They both gave Prince's Purple Rain and Sign "O" the Times movies thumbs up. Siskel also gave Batman '89 with Prince music thumbs up, too, only Ebert didn't approve of Batman '89 because he thought it was an "extremely disturbing film" for children to see "young Bruce Wayne's parents being mugged and murdered by street criminals while the little boy looked on." Ebert showed his inner grumpy old man there as he said "What is it with kids today? Why are they attracted to the movies that would have scared and depressed children from earlier, gentler, more innocent generations. Kids use to be scared that something bad might happen to Lassie, now Batman involves kids parents being brutally mugged and killed. There should always be something fun in the movies, not something that scares you and makes you cry. The hero in the old days Superman fought for true, justice and the American way. Now the popular hero Batman wants revenge." LOL. They were both only disappointed by Prince's Under the Cherry Moon and Graffiti Bridge movies and only both gave those two Prince films thumbs down.

@@StevieStitches It had nothing to do with Prince being black. He just wasn’t in good movies largely and couldn’t really act in them. Siskel & Ebert did a whole special edition of their show on the wave of black cinema that emerged at the time, so if there were any high-profile movie critics that were really championing black filmmakers and actors, it was them.
@@RocStarr913They loved Purple Rain and Sign "O" the Times, they only didn't like his Under the Cherry Moon and Graffiti Bridge. Roger Ebert said about Prince's acting in Purple Rain, "Purple Rain is a skillful, exciting, personal film, but can he play other roles, other kinds of people? I think he can. I think he has the stuff. I though he was very strong in the movies dramatic scenes. He was willing to take chances. I mean, how many big rock stars would play a character who still lives at home? And yet, it worked. In the old days whenever there was a new rock star, Elvis Presley, Hollywood would always try to figure out what kind of a role he could play. Prince plays himself. He's like nobody else we've seen in the movies. He's an individual. He's unique, and that's what makes the movie. The best rock n roll debut film since The Beatles made A Hard Day's Night. I thought it was the best rock film since Pink Floyd's The Wall."

RIP Siskel, Ebert, and Prince
Graffiti Bridge was bad. The music was ok, but the movie was just ugh.
I just wish we could have gotten the Graffiti Bridge that it supposed to be. Bc the concept and characters were different.
Rogers Nelson He should've left the writing and directing to season professionals
Let's put it this way - Madonna turned the script down because she thought it wasn't worthy of her talents. That's Madonna of Shanghai Surprise. 😂
Toni Wellons I think the movie is okay. Then again, the last time I watched it was when I was 16 and I’m 19, so maybe I would think differently now.

I want to see "The Rescuers: Down Under" where Siskel and Ebert reviewed it in the same year of 1990.
Even tho these dudes was right about this movie I still dont trust their opinions when it comes to great movies👎
Big Prince fan. I re-watched it the other day and found it quite touching.
the glaring bu forgotten mistake in purple rain is that morris day's time is not nearly a worthy opponent for p

i did like this movie but not nearly as much as sign of the times and Purple rain
When you get the real meaning of this movie...you will see it in a different light
From me prince gets 2 👍👍 thanks rogers nelson 💜💜
You're welcome! 💜
The Best Movie!!!!!!!
Ingrid Chavez was good
The movie was pretty horrible, but atleast we got "Jerk out" " Round and Round" and "Melody Cool" out of it.
Both Graffiti Bridge & Under The Cherry Moon looked so stupid I couldn't begin to watch either. Tried and got through a few minutes of each not very good at all. 👎🏻
