Currently watching this as i camp in my ford focus MK2 estate i picked up for 600 quid. I only do it to save on fuel and get an extra hours kip between work shifts. I prefer to use foam pads or roll matts as a mattress, inflatables do my head in. If you don't have tinted windows, i just put my large grip bag on the parcel shelf to block the rear hatch window and then ive attached bunjees from my side rear windows to the handles above the rear passenger windows and across to act as curtain poles for... My curtains, lol. People say im crazy but they don't realize its pretty sweet once you're setup the way you like it. Fairplay for going at it in a bloody polo!

Ignore the get a van comments. You probably will and will appreciate it all the more for living in a car for a while. If you find it's not the life for you then you haven't invested thousands in a van. I used to car camp a lot. Bought a van a few years ago and have been building, learning, rebuilding since but illness has slowed me down a lot. You're videos are inspiring me to get back on with it. I'm sure other people have said but a voltage sensing split charge relay to charge your lesiure battery is a good idea as is a bait bucket lined with a plastic bag for emergencies. You will get caught short one day in a place far from a loo but too urban to freestyle it.

Hi Alex, I converted my partner van for camping/carping and didn’t need to take the front seat out as my jrc bed chair fitted in perfectly with my head over the folded down seat. With a removable rack behind drivers seat for work tools/ food. 9ft rods suspended under the roof and storage under bed chair.used for 3 years for overnight sessions and was fine. Check your insurance too as taking out the seats may be seen as a modification. Try the bed chair option, it works

2 seater long wheel base 2005 LandCruiser Diesel van - basic living kit in 2 apple crates behind seats. More clearance than a VW transporter, better in wet fields too, run forever if you keep the air and oil filters clean/changed, I'm 6ft 4 and have slept in the back on shoots, fishing trips - ideal. Hopefully you're off across Europe - you'll be able to sleep behind your peg on most French rivers etc. Scandinavia would be worth exploring too - I got as far as Kiruna, some amazing fishing.

@@just_alex Also, someone once said “Necessity is the mother of invention". I'm not sure who said that, but it doesn't matter. If you can turn your polo into a livable space, I would love to see the process. Buy a van, if and when you want....I'm sure that will be inspirational too..... but for now the polo is pretty cool

Hi Alex, loving the build. As some have said a 4x4 system could be very advantageous for you. Can I suggest you look at a Volvo XC70. I have one (an old one) they are an estate with huggings of room in them. My good lady wife and myself can camp in the back with plenty of comfort. We never think about needing to find lodgings mid trip. Just pull into the woods down a fire break or whatever and the 4x4 system is more than capable of getting us out of the way and more importantly back to the road. Oh and we manage with all five seats still in the car 😉😂😂

Awesome videos, a suggestion to your polo camper idea is you could give it a suspension lift and put a roof rack tent on it. Make it like a off road vehicle. Just a suggestion from South Africa

I'm totally like that 😁 have so many interests in so many different directions but when it comes to doing stuff, I'm just so bad at actually doing stuff. Recently I'm investigating ADHD as so much of my traits match up directly with it. You're doing great. Keep going! 😁

I love watching you learn about things that I learned ages ago like different tools and whatnot. There's plenty that you know that don't have a clue about such as beekeeping and fishing with as much skill as you've demonstrated in the past.

Genuinely brilliant to see you're as clueless as I am, yet it doesn't put you off. I'm thinking of doing the same with my VW Fox. It's surprisingly spacious (and Foxes are weirdly high) so I reckon it's doable. What's the worst that can happen?!

I use a Citroen C1 no front seat I cut a piece of plywood to fit from the front footwell to the rear seat ,then it lifts onto the back seat and a box soon to be hinges at the front support the front Hay presto a bed at nyt a table through the day , and for running around it goes back down as a floor for Mt dog good luck.
