Few things about Chu Chulainn from an Irish person. - His "frenzy" ability is described as his entire body morphing. His skin would literally tear itself from his body, his legs would invert like a horses' legs, he would grow a 6th finger on each hand and his hair would stand on end and form spikes so sharp, it would skewer apples and flesh alike. He would also grow in height. When they say "he tore their castle down", they mean it. He literally tore a castle down brick by brick to get at them. It also has the coolest name in Gaelige, "Riastad" or "warp spasm". - He killed an Irish Wolfhound, a dog specifically made to kill wolves and bears, at 8 armed with nothing but a hurley stick and sliotar, basically a baseball bat and baseball. - He trained in Scotland under Scathach, basically another Gaelic mythological hero. - He once fought the giant Fionn MacCumhaill for days. - He was part Balor (demon from Gaelic myth) and the son of Lugh, the Gaelic god of War and Destruction, who was also known to have a temper - His spear, Gae Bolg couldn't be handled normally and would have to be tossed with his foot. Holding it would kill anyone who touched it. - He avenged his own death. After the battle when they went to see if he was dead, the person who killed him touched his corpse, and promptly was decapitated and lost an arm when Cu Chulainn's spear fell on him Also, it's pronounced "Coo Cullen"
Thats really awesome information! Easton press (the book collection behind me) has a book all about him and I was really considering getting it! I caught the pronunciation from the song 🙃. Also, where are you located? My wife and I have spent quite a bit of time in Ireland. We basically rent a car, get B&B vouchers and go. We've covered most of the country except Ulster.
@@HistoryBuff it can be pronounced differently depending on who you ask, depends on dialect I'd assume. I've mostly heard it with a huge emphasis on the H in chulainn
That's pretty rad. I can imagine the storytellers trying to one-up each other as their stories mad their way around. "Ah, but I bet you didn't know that he couldn't throw his spear normally? He had to use his foot!"
Miracle of Sound is more or less one guy (Gavin) and has been doing fan music for movies and games for a while now. His first official hit i think was "Take it Back" for mass effect 3
This one got my vote. I know, this is nothing historical(besides being historical for the game franchise) but check out the two Deus Ex Songs made by Miracle of Sound. They are really good, even for people who never played the games.
The battle between Ferdiad and Cú Chulainn is interesting. Ferdiad was said to have had skin no weapon could pierce, but Chulainn was far more skilled. After three days of battle, Chulainn told his servant to throw a spear into the river in which they fought, and as it came floating by, he grabbed it with his toes and rammed it into Ferdiads anus, thereby killing him.
There's a reason why the god of music in my group's D&D setting is Gavin, the Miracle of Sound. His music has been the inspiration for gods, races, legends, and lands in Soma, I couldn't help but give him a nod as the god of song.
Sorry, my pronunciation is actually phonetic. How dare I!!?? Lol. This is why Italian is my favorite language. The letters never lie and are always pronounced the same way.
Great reaction there’s not enough people who react or watch miracle of sound he’s very underrated if you do more of his I recommend Mojave song (fallout new Vegas song) or his when honor dies
Nice reaction, thanks! I recently found out about Miracle of Sound and I'm hooked. BTW, Eluveitie is pronounced "EL-VAY-tee" with the stress on the second syllable.
I'm a year late but your reaction is heartwarming and very informative never been to Ireland but the pictures you show and the imagery in the video makes me want to visit the land. Also raise a mug of mead to the Mighty Cú Chulainn!
One of my favourite myths I do remember my grandfather telling me stores about the famous cu chulainn of course that's not his real name he took that after killing the hound
He met my God, Lugh of the Long, Sure and Deft Hand, and it was Lugh's spear that put him down, and made him immortal. He joined the Pantheon of the Tuatha de Danaan at that time.
What about some songs about historical events and people? For example Enola Gay and Maid of Orleans by OMD or Pride by U2 and last but not least Rasputin by Boney M.
@@HistoryBuff not really, they have a drummer, and all the others are former lead singers of other bands. They have Long practiced sounding like instruments, but the explanation doesnt really do it justice. I recommend checking out their newest album - To the Power of Eight, or Badaboom (a semi-comedy original), or their cover of Wishmaster. (Or Fear of the Dark) but NOT the live performances, the sound quality was terrible and 1 band members microphone was malfunctioning
There aren't enough quality reactions to Miracle of Sound. He does good work and I appreciate your reaction to it.
The battle is super close. A comment from Gavin might clinch it!

@@HistoryBuff Ironically enough I'm from Ulster itself so we learned alot about the mythology in school :D
Lol, go figure. That's pretty cool though!

For this song he actually hired an authentic Irish band to play the song with him, so it's all real instruments.
This one got my vote.

Talk about a horrible way to die.

El-Vay-Tee, your pronunciation of Eluveitie drove me up the wall lol

Miracle of Sound is Great! Id love to see more reactions to Gavin
Really cool find!
Both were good, but since I'm not a big fan of growl, I go for this one. 👍
Boomers unite!!
I LOVE this video! Miracle of sound is fantastic!!!

"He's basically Irish Hercules, Rin." Just a joke
Thanks Actually Satan
My family carries the name of the sons of Chulainn to this day

He was the inspiration for Conan, and The Hulk.

Wow! Wonderful video !
Yea, this guy is really good!
if you like those books you'd like the book of invasions. it's older than the book of Kells
I'll have to check that out!
Thank you
Ah, yes. The Metal ballad of Irish Hercules. A good song.
What about some songs about historical events and people? For example Enola Gay and Maid of Orleans by OMD or Pride by U2 and last but not least Rasputin by Boney M.
Good recommendations. I've done quite a bit of sabaton which is all historical
1:30 wait, are these songs actually IN the games? I was under the impression that they were fan songs, not actually in the games themselves.
They are fan songs, though Cries of a Dead World is included in Wasteland 2.
Sidenote: Super recommend Van Canto - an aCapella metal group
Lol, how can metal be a capella!? Doesn't that kind of contradict?

Que buena música 😃👍
Clearly the better of the two :)
The best way to describe Cu Chulainn, I've found, is to call him the Irish Biblical Sampson, or Sampson on steroids.
This was awesome.. I feel weird having to dislike this one to be honest...
Lol, right? How do you think I feel seeing it? It'll feel weird at first
Same.
It's pronounced Koo Kullen not Koo Kullain...jus sayin mate.
subbed ya anyway
Sorry, by the end of the song, I definitely got the message
@@HistoryBuff Look right into yer heritage mate. Full o' glory.
and tragedy...much tragedy
@@HistoryBuff Check me other comment on here, for why he actually became a Demi-God not just a legend.
