    Please search GM Service Bulletin 19-NA-020. The design of the AC Delco filter is very specific for a reason and the can and baseplate are thicker for a second good reason. Wix makes great filters but for this application I would only use the Delco. The WIX is not sufficiently built in my estimation for the pressures of the GM 3.6L in cold temps. Please read the bulletin and make up your own mind. Thanks for the great videos.

    I was experiencing low oil pressure in my 6.0L with a SuperTech MP10060 (~PF48) and decided to give the UPF63R a shot. So far I've noticed about a 5psi improvement at idle/cruise and a 10psi improvement during acceleration. I'll keep my eye on it and see if it maintains that through the life of the oil.

I can get all 3 versions of Purolator across the vast majority of applications and it's made in America. So, I'm mostly sticking with Purolator. Kind of a waste of money. I use full-synthetic oil (cheap Walmart stuff), change it and the filter every 10k miles. I use either Wix or OEM filters, whichever is cheaper at the time. My Prius is at half a million miles and my Taurus is approaching 300k miles.

    • @Sherman62
      @Sherman62 Месяц назад

      @@nodak81 I think it depends on the engine and how you drive it. Short trips are worse on the oil because the engine barely gets warmed up and some engines have a poor PCV system which sludges up the oil quickly. Doesn't really matter what kind of oil. I have two similar GM V8s but one has AFM and the other doesn't. The AFM engine has dirtied the oil BLACK since day one. I de-activated that feature and it does better, but at the cost of 1 point something mpg. Worth it.

    I dont know which full flow filter is best.The WIX has been on my Pontiac Torrent for 60,000miles and 4 years. The Australian Jackmaster Classic will keep it clean. Started with a Frantz oil cleaner in 1963. These newer cars dont have many abrasives large enough to be removes with the full flow filter. I normally recommend changing the full flow filter every 2 years. I change the Jackmaster Classic every 6,000 miles for my driving conditions. I have Motor Guards over 50 years old. And a few Gulf Coasts. I have a lot of engines. I dont run on dirty oil in anything with an oil pump. I know its tradition to allow the oil to get dirty and drain it. I learned at a young age to never allow oil to get dirty.

    Used to haul bulk chemicals for a living and delivered to a paper company in upstate NY. There was big rolls of paper left outside of the plant in the weather. I asked the receiver what was up with that. He told me that the rolls of paper did not meet the strict requirements of Fram and autolite. The chemicals I delivered was to treat the paper in the filters, so naturally I asked where the the other paper went. YOU guessed it. I don't know where they are getting their paper from now but I have used Fram in all I own since with no problems. Ac Delco has a thicker gasket ,thicker canister, thicker base, bigger metal core . I think the Delco Gold is better quality, heavy duty, and race built compared to the Wix. Well worth the couple of dollars more. Why not see which one is stronger under high pressure . The Delco would win hands down.

    I'm not sure what is gained by these comparisons. For instance, some think the extra thick base plate is somehow a sign of higher quality. If you're buying your filter by weight, it's significant. Otherwise, it's just an indication that the folks making the A/C Delco filter are wasting money and passing along the excessive cost in the form of a higher retail price. There is no advantage to being overweight. If people want to make an informed decision on real filter quality, they need to find actual filtration testing results. Things like the number and size of particles allowed to pass through the element is the most important item, followed by restriction and bypass performance. A filters reason for being is all about the filtration, not what the parts look like or how much they weigh.

    • @WhipCityWrencher
      @WhipCityWrencher  2 года назад +2

      If I can find the micron ratings I do state the numbers in the video and also what the filter media is made of. These videos are to show you what's in your oil filter, you can decide if the parts are good or not. Sure I give my opinion sometimes, everyone has one. After all, showing these videos might keep manufacturers on their toes. Manufacturers do watch these videos. Check out Fram's website and see what it says. (They state it doesn't make for a good video) but I bet it makes them think twice if they want to cheapen their oil filters. Chances are the oil filter that you use or want to use will eventually show up in one of these videos. Have a good day! www.fram.com/technical-information/

      Performance goes further than simply filtering. My assumption is that they all filter fine in a lab for a few minutes at low pressures at 20 deg C. Testing performance would be great but also very expensive. A few questions I have when filter shopping: Is the wall thick enough that it doesn't collapse on removal? Will anti drain-back leak over time or at cold or hot temperatures? Will the media get bypassed when I start the car a -30 or so (lousy flow)? Will the seam rip with a cold start? Will the glue hold when cruising up a hill mid-summer in California? Will the gasoline built-up in the oil over many short trips leach the plasticizers out of the materials making them prone to inflexibility, embitterment, cracking? And how would that affect performance after many thermal and pressure cycles? Will the base-plate be rigid enough to allow the anti drain-back design to function even if grossly over-torqued at a lube shop?
      Inspection is second-best but still valuable.

    I used to go with the factory recommended which is the AC Delco so I got the gold from RockAuto last time well I just went on three days ago and they didn't have the AC Delco hold so I ordered the wicks which I see your videos posted 3 months ago but it's no longer $4 I paid almost $8 it was $7.89 from RockAuto I have a 2012 Chevy Impala with a 3.6 right off the bat I started comparing them I feel that just by touch the AC Delco gold was a better filter but then I decided to do some research and I found your video but I'm pretty amazed on the price difference from 3 months ago to 3 days ago I'm really not 100% sure which one I pick but I did blow the first engine using a mobile one and mobile one oil which I no longer use or recommend I could use some help here especially after seeing your video and the price that you paid that's a big increase I wonder why??? But you can go on their site at RockAuto and see what I'm talking about and I wonder why they don't carry the AC Delco gold anymore and my main thing is they see Delco is made in the USA the wix is not made in North Carolina it's just packaged there it's made in Mexico so are you truly getting better quality from Mexico???? Maybe you or somebody can answer these questions I'm almost afraid to put the wicks on I think I might even send it back after watching your video I feel like I got ripped off compared to three months ago what you paid from RockAuto and compared what I paid three days ago from RockAuto????!!!!!! I do appreciate any reply... Much love to all 🕊️❤️🕊️
