To add, 47% of the people living in Gaza were under 18. One of the youngest regions in the world demographically, with only 2% of the population living to 65+. Which means almost every living Gazan was born under Israeli occupation, and about 75% of Gazans were either under 18 or not born yet when Hamas was elected to power in 2006 (with the backing of the Israeli government). There hasn't been an election since. Just to give an idea of the almost complete lack of self-determination these people have had over their lives.

You can protest for something even if the people you're advocating for don't like you, but when they do something like the Queers for palestine thing, those individuals are obviously trying to make it about them and their identity, in which case it does become "transactional" because they're doing it at least in part for social credit. Also, many of the people interviewed at the campus protests don't even know why they're there.
