I am assembling my second 49 c.f. Taotao scooter today. They run well and get me from a to b with no issues at all. I loved my first one. And I will love this one too!
I have my scooter and am just about to hit 1200 miles , so far not one problem other than a headlight bulb , I've changed my oil every 600 miles Love this little scooter , might buy another !
They fail right around 3,000 but it's nothing you can't fix always carry a spare CVT transmission belt and tools replace your battery fuel lines and the headlights on them things fail on everybody word of advice when you install a new bulb make sure you clean it really well do not touch it with your bare hands use gloves the oil from your fingers will actually cause a hot spot on the glass and make them fail quicker
Word of advice replace both valve stems the fuel lines remove all of the emission control components replace the carburetor replace the exhaust and remove the restrictor washer replace your roller weights replace your drive belt with a better version remove the restrictor washer from the CVT transmission so the belt is allowed to travel all the way up the spindle replace the fuel vacuum shut off with an actual fuel shut off valve replace headlights tail lights and blinkers with LEDs disassemble and grease the gooseneck heat shrink and silicone all electrical connections to keep out moisture and corrosion reinstall all plastic body panels and when you do use a drop of silicone on all of the screws clear coat over the headlights tail lights blinker and dashboard plastic so it does not yellow over time and get cloudy reassemble the entire thing using Loctite replace mirrors because the originals are cheap and they don't stay in place reupholster the seat with a piece of neoprene and make sure you coat it with spray-on waterproofer use a little Rust-Oleum on frame parts to make sure all of the welds have a good coat to prevent rust and give the whole thing a good coat of wax to protect the plastic body panels replace all of the fluids including the transmission fluid using only synthetic remove the pink wire from your CDI.......... and when you finally all done with this the might actually have something that is okay to use for a while extra things you can do is replace Kickstart components with metal components replace the air filter box with a direct fit air cleaner carburetor attachment so your motor can actually breathe replace a spark plug and you should be good to go oh and if I didn't say go to Walmart and buy a new battery the one they send you will fail within 3 to 6 months on average and I've never seen one last more than a year

The damn kick stand that is supposed to hold the entire bike up doesn't even work!! It will not go all the way down to lift the bike up!! When I finally got the damn steering column on, and sat on the bike, the fucking back tire completely deflated!! Now I am trying to put air in the damn thing with a bicycle pump and it is not working and I still cannot get the kickstand to lift the fucking bike. Talking about frustrated to the 10th degree. This is total bullshit

My 2012 TT50 has now over 6,000 on the odometer, still going strong with no engine repairs, but after 7 years out exposed to the weather and sun (no garage) year round, the plastics take a hell of a beating and the plastic is a real pain in the ass to find exact fitting replacements . I ordered a replacement front and back handlebar shround and neither fit, ordered from Eagle ATV- that's Tao Tao's office parts store and they fit but one was cracked and Eagle has like a $25 shipping charge... Time to start looking for a new one soon I think.
No the trunk is further back so you can get to it, or you should, I haven't put the trunk on yet but if it turns out I'm wrong, I'll update but there seems to be plenty of space.

Kind of, not really. It comes with cheap wrenches which I think you could use for most everything but I used a socket set I already had. Plus you will need to change the oil.

Basically, you can keep up with traffic if you don't go on the freeway (which may be illegal anyway). My experienced wife says 35 mph top on the flats. She weighs 130 pounds, but more weight means slower acceleration, not a lower top. The advantage of a 50cc scooter is mainly that the cops have a liberal attitude toward them here (KC, KS). That may not be true elsewhere. If you have a license, and if you can afforde it, you get something bigger.
What would be a good choice to go with without a Motorcycle Licence but i do have a regular driver licence.I want to know the best name brands ? And i thought about getting a trike cause they say it's safer
@Christian B. and yep and that is one of the main reasons why when you modify these things it doesn't take much for them to go hella fast because it's the exact same thing as Honda and Acura engines could it's a clone of it they don't take much to make those things hella fast and they can pretty much be any car if you put a lot of good parts on it pretty much and their dirt cheap just like Hondas and Acuras but reliable and good

I owned 2 Taos Taos in 5 years while living in Hawaii because that was the predominant bike sold from limited dealerships. I will tell you now - these bikes are JUNK. This company should be ashamed of themselves. The reason I owned two of them? Because of constant failure. I’ve been a bike rider for over 20 years and I am very handy and meticulous about how I care for my bikes. These things just fall apart in the weirdest places. Not only that, one day they are working, the next day they aren’t. And it really sucks when you’re far from home with no indication that something may have been about to fail. If you want a real bike, get a Honda, Yamaha or a Kymco.
the days of 49cc scooters is over they are outdated why they are too slow for our times today we live in a more congested roadway cars run faster now even on our secondary roadways 25mph limit they now push it to 40 or 45 mph the 49cc scooters are too slow starting up from a stop sign so now the 49cc scooter is forced to ride on the side of the road instead of in the road now on the side of the road you ride in ROAD SHIT road shit is all the crap that ends up on the side of the road you know those drunks at night that through there beer bottles and nips out the window and you get to ride in that glass and most likely get a flat also drivers hate you you are slow and in there way they through things at you they sware at you they give you the finger nice hu this is what sellers do not tell you and my friends that ride 49cc say the same thing and the secondary roads are narrow they were not made for a 49cc scooter and car side buy side so it is not the quality of the 49cc scooter it is that they should not be in the road and they can not ride on the sidewalk I think in the future the will be band to dangerous for everyone my friends and I have a riding group we all got together and junked our scooters in the crusher no more 49 cc scooters we all have 150cc scooters and it is the complete opposite we are safe in the flow of traffic and we do not get yelled at 49 cc scooters are in everyone's way buy smart ride safe and if you have a 49cc scooter I hope they do not through a banana at you or an egg have a nice day

No the trunk is further back so you can get to it, or you should, I haven't put the trunk on yet but if it turns out I'm wrong, I'll update but there seems to be plenty of space.
