    My biggest concern/"issue" with a lot of home automation devices is having to have an account with the vendor in order for things to work. Then having to go out the Internet to that vendor and then back into my home just to control a device. I get Internet is needed when you are off the local internet there is no other way but I’d also not prefer to have to have a dozen different vendors involved in controlling my home. I also understand there are a lot of variables involved, like storage of video clips from cameras, advanced settings on things like lights. However it would be much more appealing if Apple Home was my entry point to my house and if I turn something on/off it doesn’t need to communicate with a bunch of vendors. Also if internet is down and I am sitting in my house having to have an account with a connection to talk to a vendor site to be able to turn a light off to me is crazy and not secure. I want to know what traffic is going out of mob home. I think of the issue where the vacuums robots were sending video recordings out to the vendor and nobody knew until it accidentally shared video footage of someone going to the bathroom. Like a vacuums needs to record video and upload to a vendor. Those are my biggest concerns with having all this traffic going god knows where just so they can collet information on us. I just want to be able to control my home from a central hub like Apple Home and not have to have a light on request go outside my network and then back in.

    • @JohnnyLeuthard
      @JohnnyLeuthard Год назад +2

      Also do you know with Matter is data shared all across the different platforms? I have HomeKit and will not use anything Google or Amazon given their history of lack of privacy. With matter won’t that now introduce other devices to communicate with someone outside apple. Say if you use a Nest thermostat. Then you are letting Google into your Next enabled home and trusting they won’t collect, monitor, sell and information.

    • @AdamsTechLife
      @AdamsTechLife  Год назад

      Thanks for your comment. If you're wanting a smart device that does not require an account, I'd recommend Eve devices. keep in mind, a lot of the features for a smart device are not available in the home app due to restrictions by apple (ie camera local storage, adjusting motion settings, etc).

    • @AdamsTechLife
      @AdamsTechLife  Год назад

      I don't know for sure, but it is a possibility if the device is connected to a different platform. if privacy is the biggest concern, I'd recommend HomeKit only devices by eve and not products that support matter.

    If you use apple tv as hub does it have to be turned on all the time. In a way that uses more electricity? Or same like a roku and functions as hub in standby …..without being turned on differently? And if you pair pods to it, the apple may choose pods for hub. Like idea of ethernet for hub, but sounds like should not hook up pods of apple might use them instead.

    • @AdamsTechLife
      @AdamsTechLife  Год назад

      The Apple TV can be on standby, it doesn’t have to be turned on, just have constant power. It don’t matter if you wipe the HomePods to the Apple TV or not, you still can’t manually pick your hubs lol.

    • @AdamsTechLife

    1. My first smart plug I bought years ago would not connect to homekit because it said it required a 2.5G network and my wifi was 5G. Is this an issue anymore?
    2. Can you have 2 separate homes in home apple app?

    • @AdamsTechLife
      @AdamsTechLife  5 месяцев назад

      it's recommend to have one network that broadcasts 2.5 and 5ghz bands. most, if not all, router do this nowaways and a device just picks whichever band it needs to use to work. you can have multiple homes in the home app.

      matter is a type of technology not an app. matter devices support GH so if it's compatible with matter, it'll work with GH by adding to the GH app. RP can help devices work with other non native smart home platforms and doesn't work using matter.

    I’m thinking about using HomeKit to run my existing smart home system instead of Google Home, which is currently what I’m using. I currently have mostly older model Google devices such as Nest Thermostat, Nest Doorbell, & several Google speakers & Chromecast video boxes and wanted to get your opinion on whether I should attempt to do this or just keep using the Google Home app since they have recently updated it and it sort of looks and functions like the HomeKit app. I also currently have and will continue using an iPhone and several iPads to operate my entire system with. My only concern is that I will eventually be adding many other devices such as outdoor cameras, my existing SimpliSafe security system, smart door locks & maybe a garage door opener system and am not sure how HomeKit would support all older devices as well as newer ones that I’ll looking to get that will be Matter compatible. Which system do you recommend I go with based on the current and future devices that I mentioned?

      So with leave/arrive automations that require entry into the home, you have to manually approve the automation for it to actually run. cause you could just drive by your house and the door could auto lock even if you're not actually home. there's a way around it but not really recommended.

However all my cameras (8) are indoor Wyze cams and have worked outside for 4.5yrs perfectly however they say Wyze except V.1cams are RTSP capable. So my question is should I invest in the arlo essential outdoor cam with a light or one or two Circles? I’m wanting to make the camera trigger lights on and off so do I need a bridge? And which items like sensors for doors and movement for a decent price.Thanks man!!

      Depends on what features you need but you could use the eufy outdoor cams. Apple home hub likely needed. Aqara is goat for sensors

    Hey Adam, thanks for the videos. I just start small for Christmas. Just buy a Aqara bridge, smartplug and button. The next project will be a ledstrip in the kiestoon. And everything linked to Apple HomeKit. Just 1 question. Can you also set automations in a specific period of the day? So my son comes out his bed in the period of sleeping, the motion sensor will switch the ledstrip. But the brightness should be light up voor 1min at a 20%, in the rest of the day, it should be at 100%. Is it something I can set with Apple HomeKit Automations? Thx.

      Hello, thanks for your comment. That is a great setup to get started with! Yes, the light strip can be different brightnesses based on the time of day or between certain time periods :) when you create the automation, under the time condition, choose specific times and choose your time range and the brightness of the light strip.

    Hello Adam! I am a Google Home user. I can control all my Philips Hue lights through the Google Home pod with voice command. I recently got myself an iPhone so I wish to be able to control my lights with Siri commands as well but unfortunately I'm unable to connect my Hue Bridge to Apple HomeApp. It just doesn't detect my Hue Bridge. HomeApp's QR scanner does not scan the QR behind my Bridge but it detects the product ID. After waiting couple of minutes it fails connecting to Bridge. I'm confused on one thing. Having iPhone and Hue Bridge is not enough to establish this connection? Does it still requires to own Apple HomePod or AppleTV etc?

    • @AdamsTechLife
      @AdamsTechLife  8 месяцев назад +1

      the hue light can be controlled from the hue app only without the bridge (locally) or with the bridge (locally and remotely). to get the bulbs to work with any smart home ecosystem like google or HomeKit, the hue hub is required. Once you set up your hub in the hue app, try these steps to get it into HomeKit (similar for other platforms): www.philips-hue.com/en-us/explore-hue/works-with/apple-homekit/set-up a HomeKit hub like apple tv or homepod is required to control remotely from home app. the hue hub gets the bulbs into HomeKit, the apple home hub allows you to control them remotely from the home app. hope that helps :)

      Ahh now I understand. I've been already using it with Hue app and voice control via Google Assistant. I just wanted to control my lights with Siri as well but looks like that's not gonna happen without homepod :P HomeKit doesn't detect the Hue Bridge so. Well, that would be awkward to have Google Pod and Apple pod in same house so I'm gonna stay with Google Pod and its assistant :P Thank you for explaining @@AdamsTechLife

    Hi Adam, I am starting with homekit. I bought a 4 pack tplink matter plugs. They are really hard to add to homekit. It takes to much time and most of the time it fails. My home has two levels. In the second level my Apple TV. I realized that adding the plugs, me being in the first level was not working. So I tried adding them in the second floor and They starting responding. I think it has to do with the proximity with the Apple TV . Is that normal ? What am I doing wrong, should I star with another brand?

    • @AdamsTechLife
      @AdamsTechLife  Год назад

      To be completely honest, the matter standard and matter devices have been very finicky. I’ve used so many matter enabled devices and hardly any of them work. I would honestly recommend getting the tp link smart plugs that work with HomeKit (not through matter), i’ve used them and they are fast to set up and have worked flawless for me. I used the matter tp link for a day or two for testing and it worked fine but i’ve tested so many new matter device and almost everyone of them are hard to setup, slow to respond, and unreliable. Even with multple HomePod and Apple TVs, I shouldn’t have connection issues with matter devices, yet i still do. That’s my experience with matter devices, hope that helps and welcome to HomeKit :)

    Great, everything _except_ the ONE thing I needed help with… managing *ZONES* . You just skipped right over that. It’s easy to _create_ a zone, but there’s no way to DELETE them! Or add anything back into them if they accidentally get separated.
    I had 2 light bulbs grouped together in a zone called “overhead”. I accidentally separated them and there’s NO WAY to get them back together using the same zone name I chose before.
    If you try joining one “accessory” with another, it forces you to create a NEW zone. But it won’t let me name it “overhead” because that name already exists.
    That would be fine if I could just SELECT that zone to join them to, but they don’t give us that option. And I can’t find _anywhere_ to access Zones.
    Which means I also can’t DELETE that zone so I can reuse the name.
    And Apple’s support site (as usual) is useless.
    Can ANYONE, please help?

    • @AdamsTechLife
      @AdamsTechLife  5 месяцев назад +1

      if you swipe to the left of the zone, there's a red "delete" button. tapping that deletes the zone. you could also put bulbs in a group if they're near each other.

      @Vmurph 5 месяцев назад

      @@AdamsTechLife Lol, I feel like such an idiot! 😂 I tried that FIRST. I swiped four times and nothing budged so I figured it couldn’t be deleted that way. But your reply made me go back and try again. This time the red delete thing appeared. So embarrassing 🤦🏻‍♀️
      Oh well, maybe my embarrassingly wrong complaint will help someone else who runs into the same issue.😅 It’s possible the app might act up sometimes.
      PS: oh and THANK YOU for helping me with that!! 🌟
