My disorder is autosomal dominant, so I've had to think about this a lot too. Thanks for a clear and concise explanation of how these things are passed down. I love hearing every step of your journey to motherhood.
A lovely explanation for anyone that wanted to understand the genetics for your baby girl having Leber congenital amaurosis. I was always terrible in science and I barely have a handle on my x-linked variant of Retinitis Pigmentosa and how I would pass it down! I really appreciate the series and I hope you continue releasing updates!
I’m happy for you and your husband! Congratulations on the pregnancy! And I didn’t even think about the possibility of the child being born blind. Thank you for explaining it all. I hope all goes well and enjoy your beautiful little bundle of joy. ❤
I'm so happy to hear you're pregnant. I was actually planning to check back in to your channel eventually after revisiting your video about accamodations in college. Congratulations!
Super interesting explanation. I am the process of genetic testing for my eye disease. I already have a blood disorder from a genetic mutation. Genetics is really a bizarre lottery
So glad that this worked out for you and wishing you the best as you start your family. Do you follow Lucy Edwards? She lives in England and has a different genetic condition that caused her to go blind. She and her husband recently also discussed their considerations and decisions for planning their family.
Congratulations to you both. I am so happy for you and I wish you all the best on your journey into parenthood. I myself am a blind dad and my daughter will be turning 16 this June 😲🤯 you've got this girl! And I'm sure your partner has as well so good luck
I was there buy my partner's side from beginning to end throughout the pregnancy and the birth so if there is any questions you have that you think I may be able to help with and you feel comfortable asking and I can help I will be more than happy to answer them and give you my contact details
You both had quite the journey. Hope that you and your family are all doing well, and I think you give a really thorough and easy to understand! Both of the biology of your reasoning. I similarly have a lot of anxiety around medical procedures and initially went through a bunch of testing because the doctor thought that something must be going on with my kidneys or cardiac system but eventually we ruled everything out and just came to the conclusion that I got extremely anxious around medical things. It’s interesting to me that you mentioned having the same thing with high anxiety. I also thought that that could be a thing but during one of my psychology classes my professor told us that it wouldn’t be since the body isn’t able to think when the blood pressure is high but I was thought that if it was under enough stress it could So it makes sense that the two things would be hard to unlink.
Hmmm that’s interesting. I’m pretty sure anxiety and raised blood pressure go hand-in-hand. Although what’s interesting about anxiety surrounding medical procedures is that typically with a blood/injection/injury phobia your blood pressure actually drops
We will also do genetic testing on ourselves before trying for our 2nd, as you might remember, I'm the mum of a suspected-LCA baby girl (we are still waiting for the results). Doctors currently suspect that it's not genetic for her but a result of me having got Covid at the 10 weeks mark of my pregnancy, when the retina is developing. Still, even though we couldn't be further apart based on genetics with my husband, I'll sleep more soundly knowing we are not both carriers. Maaany aspects can go wrong during a pregnancy, and I will be hyper-aware of this during my future 2nd, so I won't ever be in such a bliss and at peace like I was with my 1st. Oh, BTW, referring to bodies being able to handle child-birth: I also thought that I have a low pain tolerance, but in the end, I endured a 30+ hours long and haaaard labor and was able to give birth vaginally to my girl who had 10/10 Apgar status. A year later, my body feels like I was NEVER pregnant, I recovered perfectly (I felt normal after around 5-6 months). I also know why I was thinking this way. :D
Genetics is interesting. My dad is legally blind. The doctors told my parents that none of their children will be born with his eye condition...then all 3 of us were born with it.
Single mom kids late 40s LCA guy heee. Whwh u was diagnosed at the young tender age of 2 I was told in no uncertain terms not to have kids biologically
Interesting. I don’t believe that’s a decision for anyone’s doctor to make. They can give you all of the information but ultimately the decision is up to the individual
Good evening, beautiful. I just found your page today And subscribed after watching a couple videos.. I happened to be looking up blind and visually impaired RUclipsrs and came accross your videos. I am also legally blind. I was born with glaucoma. And my husband is blind also. We created our page. I Married My Best Friend. which there is a story behind that as well. I'm trying to build my page around two Legally blind people who have come together and got married and how we live our lives as a visually impaired couple. I am so excited to find another visually impaired RUclipsr! I have so many questions LO. L, but I guess I can just start with, How did your page becomes so successful with subscribers? I don't have many subscribers and not many people. Watching my videos too often. I've been active on my page for about 2 years. There might be something that I'm missing so if you have any info. I would truly appreciate it. Thank you so much. And congratulations to you and your husband on your baby. I am so happy for you.💜
Hi! I honestly don’t know how my channel became as big as it got. I think something that helped was trying to make videos that other people would search for. I think that’s how a lot of my viewers found me

It’s definitely a lot to think about. have you looked into IVF in the process for screening embryos for a single gene?

@@CaylawithaC you’re welcome
Good ole Punnet square! Haven’t done one of those since high school biology. 🧬 I hope you’re feeling better. ❤
Thank you! I am feeling a bit better

Yeah genetics is something I’ve always found to be very interesting but also confusing

Interesting. I wonder how they came to that conclusion. I would think it would be hard for a doctor to determine that without genetic testing
@@CaylawithaC It was the 1980s when they determined this, so the science research was also not what it is today.
I’m so happy for you! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Fantastic thought provoking video ❤️
Good
God give you all the happiness
