- This video shows how the old teak slats in the cockpit of a Beneteau First 310 are removed, how new teak slats are being made, test fitted and installed using 3M's 5200 caulk.
It also explains how i restored the gelcoat in the cockpit of the boat by removing the old caulk, slightly sand it with 1500 grid sand paper and applying 3M's Gloss Restorer compound. Once finished the gloss is restored using 3M's Scotchgard Liquid Marine Wax.

Great job. That will be admired every sail.
I did the same thing to our 1991 Beneteau First 35s5. A cheese cutting wire pulled beneath the old teak cut the old adhesive with out damaging the gelcoat
Impressive results - the boat looks 10 years younger!
V. Nice, I’m looking forward to seeing the next video :)
Great video, keep up the content!
Well done. IMO, with the glues of today there are not anymore scruws needed. You need only weight to press them and waiting the glue hardens.
True. However what i like about using the screws is that you can re-tighten them after 5 mins or so to ensure the glue spreads nicely.
Great job! I am thinking of doing the same on my Oceanis 300. Did you consider other options such as painting the cockpit seats or installing foam teak?
We like the feeling of real teak so the objective was to replace the wood from the start. It is a bit of a process vs painting or installing foam teak, but very frankly worth it. There is another Beneteau 310 here in the area, and they replaced the teak with foam teak and I must say that it looks good. I think that if you are going for optics only, foam teak is a good alternative.
I think the foam may be the way to go. Keeps it cooler and less slippery. Plis there is a little give for comfort...
Thanks, preparing to do the same project. How hard was it to remove the current screws? do you drill with the forstner until you hit the screw? did you end up having to replace the screws and use new ones? If so, what spec screws did you use?
The existing screws came out easy. Most of them were visible and i just cleaned out the slots for the bit to fit. On a few I use a forstner bit to get closer to the screw. I ended up re-using the screws. They were stainless and in good shape and still had plenty of grip. Good luck with your project!
Are the boards supposed to be that thick?
I took the thickness of the slats that Beneteau used to offer as a reference and it works well. You can go thinner of course.
