    It's nice to see advocacy for shortleaf ecosystem management. Longleaf, while important, got all the attention when I was in school 17 years ago.

      For good reason. Longleaf is disadvantaged (in modern times) compared to shortleaf because it requires a fire regime whereas shortleaf pines does not. Longleaf needs prescription fire whereas shortleaf can do well without it. (Therefore humans both block longleaf pines from fire supression, and are also the only way that it can come back.)

    We have 2 big plots of these trees on my families property that someone planted around 100 years ago, now it's my hunting spot lol
