This is a great video. We bought some land that was clear cut about 6 or 7 years ago and naturally re-grew and its very thick. I was thinking that the trees need to be thinned heavily just to make better deer habitat. Many of the trees are only a foot or two apart so this video is very relatable for me. Thank you for taking time to make it!

I do it in nova scotia. And its thick. The only time i get a break is to do weeding problem with that is bald faced hornets. They nest in the shorter trees. You gotta keep ur eyes peeled. I hit a nest the size of a basketball got stung over 20 times

Hitting wasps/hornets nest is definitely my main downside to tree surgery only happened to me a few times but not fun

Hi Henry - If you live in Virginia, contact your local Virginia Department of Forestry forester. You can find the person who works in your area here: dof.virginia.gov/. If you live in another state, they should also have foresters who can work with you. Feel free to send me an e-mail if you want more specific information: jgagnon@vt.edu.

You don't need to buy the brush cutter to do it yourself on a small stand....machete and or a small hand chainsaw is fine.

Yes, on a small stand. Otherwise, I think it's harder work than planting trees (which is miserable!).
