my friend is also korean, and same thing used to happen, FIRST TEOKKBOKKI THEN KOREAN FRIED CHICKEN THEN SPICY KOREAN FRIED CHICKEN THEN KIMCHI AND ON AND ON NEVER ENDED..... Not gonna lie I loved every second of it and I wish it could happen again but she went back to Korea and I gained 10kg from all that food in total

This is such a struggle. My husband grew up with similar situation: being told to eat more, basically being shamed if he doesn't but then family would comment on his weigh.
My friend from High School was a skinny-@** boy when I left to go to college. A decade later he ballooned up to 300 lbs! When I asked him what happened, he told me the same story of being shamed into over-eating by his mother-in-law.😆
I feel his emotional pain. They complain when you don't eat enough or tell you to finish the rest of the left over food, I was a big eater when I was younger and used to eat double- triple what the rest of the family members would. Then they'd turn around and say I need to loose weight. 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
That’s so funny as we Middle Eastern’s tend to share these traditions. Our moms usually feed our friends and guests to the point beyond unbuckling the belt 😂 and they are so stubborn they wouldn’t take a no for an answer!!! But it all shows that how sweet and lovely they are ❤️

Yes, Korean (or any other immigrant Mom from less privileged country) would offer in abundance of what they valued the most in their earlier lives, to their guests. My grandma used to bring (and serve) us loads of fruits and vegetables while my craving was on candies and junk food.

Yeah, same is true with a lot of mothers and grandmothers around the globe. I can count on one hand the mums who didn't place a plate of food in front of me even when I just dropped in for 5 minutes. After I lost the "infinite storage" of my preteen-to-teen stomach, I just started asking if I could take the meal away and if I could get the recipe or even watch them cook it sometime so I can learn the recipe - the last bit seems to make even the most hard-headed ladies really happy!

This is so very korean! When I lived in South korea, a lovely lady from church invited me and the missionaries over for dinner Sunday night. She kept bringing dish after dish after dish! Finally I looked at the young men and I said, why does she keep bringing more out?!?!!!! They explained that you just have to eat until you leave a fourth of the bowl left. If you empty the bowl, she will fill it again.
I've been to mother's homes like this. Largely Italian area, so, moms like to feed you & if you turn the food down, it is seen as an insult, so you eat rather you are hungry or not, lol
This is why I was a chubby kid. My neighborhood had Japanese, Filipino, Korean, Greek, Indian, African and Arab. They were always asking are you hungry?? The food was mind blowingly fantastic! No fast food good homemade food.

When I didn't finish my food I'd hear about starving children, so smart ass me ( don't get mad at me, I was very young and heard it from my cousin ) I said, " UPS it to them" I can still feel the crack on the side of my head from that one!!
