yall forgetting the I-frames that make it so that joker reaches the ledge 99% of the time against all opponents. A legit wall from steve is prob the first time any character has a good chance of completely preventing arsene from reaching the ledge.

@ Melee fox is no where near the level of Meta Knight and Bayo. A lot of top players don't even consider him #1 on the tier list any more, or at the very least think he's tied with Puff and Marth for #1. Plus the tech skill required to play fox optimally is so high that it's not really possible to do consistently in tournament, whereas Meta Knight and Bayo were easy and had no real competition for the #1 spot on the tier list.
Okay, but honestly? I don’t think that any character in the history of Smash is ever going to be live up to Steve and Alex. They had to reprogram THE WHOLE GAME for these two. They look and feel like you’re just playing Minecraft in Smash, ‘n whilst we didn’t get Sweden in the game, the sheer amount of love and time put into them (which has taken around three to five years if sources are right) is just insane. It makes me sad to compare the older cast members to them and worried about who we’ll get in the future... Because, Mr. Sakurai is focusing on the “fun” of the characters: just how many more dream picks can be beautifully placed into the game like these Fighter Pass characters in the game? But honestly, I just want characters like Mario to look, act and SOUND like they do in their home series. Mario barely even smiles, despite his image being “happy people’s man-plumber goes around to save people and likely would be cheerful and looking up despite the hardships ahead of him”. Seeing how much detail they put into Steve makes me wish they could do the same for older characters. DK and Ganon are characters that could really use it.
Those two need a stupid amount of TLC, especially considering what the communities have done for them. Have you seen Rivals of Aether’s workshop version of DK, or Duke of Dork’s or Toxicrew’s videos on him: THOSE look like a DK who could be in Smash: a character who reflects on some of the most beautiful platformers that Nintendo has in their arsenal.

I really don''t understand why this happens, maybe because is the first time we see it or because we don't have that experience of using it, we always have that reflex of getting scared of something new and maybe this is the same with it. I don't thinks is sooooo broken as people said, I think that Steve is not an agile character like Mario, Min Min or even for a big character like DK still feels he is slow. I even think that the constant mining is gonna be annoying at some points of the matches.

Hero felt broken in a totally different way due to how RNG-reliant he is, it really caught people off guard at first hence the movement to ban him, but that died down eventually. people seem to have at least reluctantly accepted his randomness factor, and some have never considered him viable because of it, but remarkably he is still around despite being a character designed solely for casuals and gambling addicts. (albeit incredibly fun and satisfying to win with, and rage-inducing to lose to) I was unsure myself how Byleth would turn out before release but actually trying him out, he felt incredibly "meh" and that seems to be where he ended up in the meta.
If I recall correctly, Byleth was never called broken. I mean by most people. A majority of people seemed to agree on the fact that she was very slow and most pros always placed her at mid tier.
It is true that a lot of their moves are super strong. But almost all of the “broken” abilities take materials to use. So the main way to fight against Steve will just be constant pressure. To exhaust his materials and keep him from collecting more.
Not really, you can get diamonds in more or less 10 seconds and steve has so many fast strong attacks that constant pressure is not gonna cut it, chief.
Only possible way I see as a little Mac main to survive this is if I can also grab the ledge of the blocks that Steve/Alex places or just never get off stage
I'd honestly just build them a platform out of pity if they get launched. Yeah, I might eat a KO Punch, but I just feel _bad_ for the people who main what is essentially the new Pichu.

Steve can punch down trees, bend iron with his bare hands, carry a solid block of gold like it's nothing, fall into a couple feet (abt 1 meter) of water from really high up without being fazed, create potions with different effects, and fight in a world where water is instantly evaporated. He's going to run on ammo, he's likely going to be slower in terms of repeated attacks than we see here, and i fully expect his blocks are going to be given a deterioration timer to keep players from walling off ledges continuously. There's also the veeeeeeeery likely scenario where it takes him multiple hits to break down blocks and meanwhile everybody else can just smash through with a hit or two. Steve will be strong in long fights when the player can amass resources and ammo, but any competent player would immediately know the way to counter this is by keeping close and making sure the pressure is always on!
The blocks do deteriorate over time, depending on the block's material the block will take longer. For example a dirt block sont last as ong as an iron block
Also, he may specialize in edge guarding and traps but do not underestimate his fighting ability. He has some pretty good combos as we saw and has a variety of moves. How ever we did not see any moves with range or at least good range. The glider and the trackes close the distance and all of his attacks cover close range. So charging in would probably be a bad mistake. Keep your distance and make him come to you. Forcing you to have the advantage if you are able to predict his moves.
I guarantee there are going to be matches where everyone chooses Steve for the sole purpose of making creative builds while simultaneously trying to sabotage each other. ...Which admittedly may not be far from Minecraft itself from what I've seen of it (haven't played it), but it'll still be fun to watch.

Kind of ironic too considering the reactors themselves don't even say he's broken and instead immediately think of character's troll and strategic possibilities.
modern games are pretty well balanced, looking back at Smash 64 or even Melee there are matchups that are considered unwinnable in tournament play, now even the bottom tier characters have a good chance against anybody even top tiers, tiers are only relevant to top of the top players anyway (and even there at that level doesn't matter all that much). or in other words, back in the day it was messed up, it will hardly be that messed up again.

Considering the backstory on how the creeper was made, it's a lot less far-fetched than you would think. But yeah, it's weird to see them like that; it could've been a piglin or hoglin instead, but that would ruin the callback. After checking the first trailer, I can confirm this: As long as Steve or Alex doesn't touch their own blocks, they will never decay. I find that interesting, and I bet people will manage to make some nice builds or pixelart in stage for the fun of it.
That "creeper" legitimately scared me. Screw Herobrine, if I saw _that_ thing in my Minecraft world I would delete my saves and uninstall the game forever.

Imagine saying a character is broken before they're even released, and you're literally going by the promo footage of the character, highlighting his/her strong points.
His edgeguarding is going to be insane, but mid-high % he just won't be able to have a combo game because his jump is so poor. He can go anywhere, but it takes him time. He's gonna revolve around setups and traps, all so he can get the one powerful hit (ie. the silly angle of d-smash) that finishes 'em.

This is probably the only character that can edgeguard arsene and pichu.
Arsene isn't too hard to edgegaurd though. Recovery is pretty predictable, the only issue is timing because it's a fast recovery

He's going to run on ammo, he's likely going to be slower in terms of repeated attacks than we see here, and i fully expect his blocks are going to be given a deterioration timer to keep players from walling off ledges continuously. There's also the veeeeeeeery likely scenario where it takes him multiple hits to break down blocks and meanwhile everybody else can just smash through with a hit or two. Steve will be strong in long fights when the player can amass resources and ammo, but any competent player would immediately know the way to counter this is by keeping close and making sure the pressure is always on!
TRAVIS
From what I've seen, his biggest strength are traps and edgeguard. If you're forced to use your sword, you're doing it wrong.
The blocks do deteriorate over time, depending on the block's material the block will take longer. For example a dirt block sont last as ong as an iron block
Also, he may specialize in edge guarding and traps but do not underestimate his fighting ability. He has some pretty good combos as we saw and has a variety of moves. How ever we did not see any moves with range or at least good range. The glider and the trackes close the distance and all of his attacks cover close range. So charging in would probably be a bad mistake. Keep your distance and make him come to you. Forcing you to have the advantage if you are able to predict his moves.

...Which admittedly may not be far from Minecraft itself from what I've seen of it (haven't played it), but it'll still be fun to watch.

yea, it's pure click bait. Every time something appears that changes player behavior, or is surprising react videos HAVE to label it as broken.
Kind of ironic too considering the reactors themselves don't even say he's broken and instead immediately think of character's troll and strategic possibilities.

Steve can be broken if people use Steve correctly I expect Steve to be low/mid tier
modern games are pretty well balanced, looking back at Smash 64 or even Melee there are matchups that are considered unwinnable in tournament play, now even the bottom tier characters have a good chance against anybody even top tiers, tiers are only relevant to top of the top players anyway (and even there at that level doesn't matter all that much).
or in other words, back in the day it was messed up, it will hardly be that messed up again.

Considering the backstory on how the creeper was made, it's a lot less far-fetched than you would think. But yeah, it's weird to see them like that; it could've been a piglin or hoglin instead, but that would ruin the callback. (Although, idk what they use to fight so maybe it's not really my place to say)

His edgeguarding is going to be insane, but mid-high % he just won't be able to have a combo game because his jump is so poor. He can go anywhere, but it takes him time. He's gonna revolve around setups and traps, all so he can get the one powerful hit (ie. the silly angle of d-smash) that finishes 'em.
