I had a similar situation happen to me some decades ago. Low level flunky went of on me and then on my boss.
All because I was "dressed inappropriately" for the event and tracked some dirt over a carpet at the presentation they were attending.
Me, the CTO of the project they were visiting, who just got finished crawling out of a damn wall to fix some weird lighting issues where the 90's/00's phones present were making the lights flicker, an hour before the presentation started.
The presentation where my bosses husband, the prime minster of my country, was about to present the CTO of the project (me) with an award for the completion of this project that would be the beacon of technological pride for the country.
My boss made her aware who she was speaking to, but it didn't seem to register with her at all.
Until an hour later when I came back from my office upstairs after washing up and changing back into my suit, went to the conference hall and she had to seat me, at the prime ministers table as the guest of honor.
The look on her face was priceless.
My best guess is that she thought I was some random maintenance guy. But even if I was in that function at that time, her reaction was uncalled for.

  • @davidyaconis7002

Yeah, that government to military conversion thing is more of a guideline. While a Sergeant Major (or Chief Petty Officer or Chief Master Sergeant) is technically outranked by a 2nd Lt (or Ensign), the E-9 has far more responsibility than any O-1, even a prior enlisted O-1. However, a GS-8 will usually have more responsibility than a GS-7.
Additionally, with very few, specific exceptions (I've had a Squadron DO/vice-Commander who was a civilian), civilians and military do NOT tell each other what to do. While I've worked under civilians, they never issued me orders. My standing orders were to support mission objective, and the civilians directed workflow. In other words, they told me what to do without telling me what to do, by telling me what I needed to do to support the mission objective. Yeah, that's how it works. And it looks silly typed out, but it works out very well.
Oh! And we don't just randomly throw 'mission objective' and 'workflow' at people. They have to be in our operational or administrative chain of command.

I get that these people are the lowest on the totem and probably get treated badly at work but that's no excuse to treat others like dirt just to boost their own low self esteem.

Actually, sadly, it is a thing. I am under 5' tall (so, height isn't really a distinguishing feature for me...most of the population is taller than me...lol), white female. I also have Aspergers Syndrome. If there are 2 people (of any nationality) that dress similar, and have similar features, I cannot tell these 2 people apart, unless they are standing next to each other.
Think of something like this (a little experiment for people who are people-persons, rather than cat-persons):
10 cats, all from different litters. Their tails are down, so you cannot see their gender. They are all black cats. Or, if you are superstitious, try 10 all white cats. Just looking at them, moving around in a room........could you tell them apart, from each other?
Sometimes, even, a person will look familiar.......until they stand up and turn around. Oooopppps! I'm sorry. I thought you were my wife/husband/kid!
Never, ever assume someone is someone, until you know for sure, who that person (or, cat) is.

I find that different Reddit posters all try to make money off the same stories.
Personally, I find it dishonest, even fraudulent, when, instead of coming up with their own content, RUclipsrs post other people's content and say to their subscribers something like, "What do you think of this video?" That poster makes the $$ when the original poster does not even have a channel. Not illegal, but shows a lack of integrity, IMHO.

I can clearly recall in my HS there being a few Punjabi kids & though the girls did wear a variation of hijab (think hindu head/face scarf) the guys wore a turban.
