You know it's a good video when he calls a caliper the wrong name not once but twice it's not a dial indicator or micrometer other then that it's an excellent video
Just did a few mods to my P7100 this evening. I did the modifications to the AFC housing necessary to run the Power Driven Diesel AFC Live kit. I have governor springs as well but I'm going to wait until I have the pump back on the engine before I turn it over. I installed new delivery valves this evening, which went well. I also had my pump in my bench vise and it worked well to hold the pump. Just need to get the pump painted up and then it'll go back on the engine. Once I verify the engine runs again (I took it down to a short block and redid everything, similar to your build) I'll start tearing the 454 out of the truck.
Wow, very well done about replacing the governor springs off the truck and this video was hard to find, cuz everyone else seems to replace them in the truck! Good point about the dial indicator for the fool-proof way of making sure the tension is correct! I have a spare P-pump off the truck that was rebuilt from 160hp to 176hp with OEM 2500 gov springs. Needs governor springs, as the Bosch Service Center couldn't do it as per Bosch. My 95 OEM 180 P-pump had 3k springs in it, and I don't want to go rpm-backward with the rebuilt pump, but I want the pump to be more responsive and fuel harder earlier, not looking for more top-end beyond 3200 most of the time.
Hello I got a question I got the 24 valve with a P-pump on it i need to change injectors on it I don’t know what injector I need and if after change the injector I will need to calibrate the pump again thanks for your help
Getting ready to do this as well. I made the mistake of braking my timing Fork tool in my pump because I got everything in time and then came back to it the next day... and forgot the timing keys were in the pump and motor. That wasnt a fun time but I got the broken pieces. Had to buy an aluminum timing tool as that little thing from Cummins is like $70! I am also working with a 160 pump. I went with the Power Driven Diesel 500hp fueling kit. 5x12 injectors, 4k gov springs, delivery valves and a few other items. I got their AFC live kit with it as well so I just removed my fuel plate. I ended up with a BW K27 turbo as my goal is somewhere around 400-450 whp. Still waiting on a few more items before I can make any significant progress but the plan is to get the engine running again on the stand before I tear the 454 out of the truck. I'm hoping I can remove the 454 and install the Cummins (just get it set in place and bolted to the trans) in a single weekend. We'll see how well that all works.
Sounds like a pretty cool build you have going on there. The next stge in these videos will be installing the engine in my 82K30 so hopefully their will be some stuff in them to help you with that part as well. Thanks for watching!!!
So I have a 230 hp model 6bta 5.9 cummins no has yet to explain how is it getting there. It's in a 94 Thomas saf-t-liner school bus. Ive converted it to a motorhome aka a skoolie. I get no smoke at all. I'm wanting to make some mods but feel I could go backwards if it's just a ppump mod to get it there. I know it's detuned to not smoke out mom on the curb waving bye. How does a 3k governor work with shift points on a mechanical engine and a mt643 transmission
@7:55 I had this plug fall out and I lost a bunch of oil on the highway, does anyone know exactly what this plug is called and the piece behind it? I heard him say flag. Currently I only have a plug from a pipe that is threaded into it and have been running it like that for 2 months.
was thinking of going from stock to 5x.012 injectors on my 12v. for more h.p. I have straight 4" exhaust and afe intake. Would I need to do any other upgrades or would the 5x12 be safe on their own?
That is the same injectors I'm running. If you do those injectors along with the springs and fuel plate mods you'll be very happy. If you are after more smoke go with a more aggressive fuel plate. I didn't get any any excessive smoke but everyone has different goals. Bump your timing up if you want to see more throttle response
I just prefer to do the adjustment on the vehicle. I've found every application is a little different and there is no hard and fast rule of turn this screw 3 turns etc. Doing the adjustment on a running driving truck allows to "tune" it better in my opinion. Thanks for watching
It allows the engine to turn at a higher rpm. This allows for a higher top end road speed. Also when used with other kids such as fuel plate and bigger injectors and such allows for more power.
@@RicosGarage We are talking about marine engines and as far as i know boat was submerged. Whoever decided to milk the insurance, they filled up to the top with oil prior to sink.. Im the current owner and trying to reambulate boat.. I changed bunch of things on those engines. Port side works like clock but starboard gives me a hard time. Previous owner had AFC top cover removed and he was sticking with screw driver and probably he did some damage with governor. Any ideas what could be a broken inside?)
The pump is essentially a small engine in itself. Lots of moving parts inside. I'd recommend you take it to a reputable shop as it may need some internal parts replaced
@@RicosGarage Thats a good advice but problem is that shops near me they are specialized in truck engines. For me engine is engine and dont see big difference between the pumps.
You put the flag in backwards when you put the cap back on. You said the brass part goes towards the inside of the pump and the groove goes in the cap and tightens down.

Rico's Garage ok thank you I have a 1998 ppump out of a ford 800 box truck in my 1963 Lincoln continental just had a over rev issue so had all new stainless valves and 60 over springs installed
@@RicosGarage ok so I just want a little more hp but i dont want puffs of blk smoke. What's the best upgrade for me? Should i change the plate? Upgrade the gov springs? Injectors?
That's always an option. Only drawback is excessive smoke. That's not a concern for some people but I didn't want to deal with soot on the trailer and we have DOT officers here that will bust us for excessive smoke. Just my thoughts not sayingyoyr way is bad. I just had my reasons Thanks for watching
Hands down best tutorial video I've ever seen! Thank you very much for posting this!
Thanks for the kind words and thanks for watching!

Appreciate the close ups of the gov spring install 👍
I have to say, this is one of the best informative vid on fairly technical info rhat I have watched. Thank you sir.
Thanks for the kind words
Would love to see a video of how to PROPERLY adjust a P pump. Not everyone is a kid wanting to throw out tons of black smoke.

I’m thinking about the 375 hp kit on my 12 valve
Did you put the schemes back in, when you replace the governor Springs?
Can a stock motor in a record handle these upgrades or does the engine have to be built too?
I have a "0" in my truck , it does smoke a little but not bad ..

Do you have a vid on bumping up the timing
my fuel plate kit came with a black flat plate with two holes. do you know what it's for
I was stupid and damaged one spring holder stud, its impossible to find, cant even find a exploded view :((
If I just slide the stock plate forward and afc will this hurt my stock clutch or cause any harm to the engine?
No you should be safe
Can you upgrade a p pump for me!? And around how much would go for sir!
So do you have to pull the flag and its cap if the pump is still in the engine and turn it over via the front dampener?
Yes that is correct
Thank you ! Very well done !

What's the purpose of adding like a 3k governor springs. What does it do to the PPump?
It allows the engine to turn at a higher rpm. This allows for a higher top end road speed.
Also when used with other kids such as fuel plate and bigger injectors and such allows for more power.
@@RicosGarage interesting cause my truck hits 3k but the ppump looks stock. It even got the security chain across the cover.
What's the best way to lean out the truck a little cause I got a small amount of black smoke as soon as I hit the pedal.
Are you using a dial caliper and calling it a dial indicator?
Yeah I said the wrong thing. Didn't catch my mistake...

Can you teach me how to repair pump's
I’m trying do this on the engine does the pump
Have to be timed if it stays on the engine
No if the pump is not removed or disturbed in any way it will not need to be timed.
