Welcome! Ive had it over a year now and it has gotten much better with updates most things are working. It's still pretty lousy for key programming though
Yes I found out the hard way that you have to charge the battery to make it work. I had it in my truck for about 6 months and forgot that I had to put it on a charger. 126 miles from home my truck's engine stopped running on the interstate. Crank no start hooked up the MX808 and nothing. So I had it towed 126 miles to a known diesel shop back home and within 3 hours they had the fuel control module changed out. Maybe I missed that info when I read the quick start manual that came with it new.
Hi there, i am all the way from Recife in Brazil South America, and I really liked your video, very informative and all, thank you for sharing it with us, you are in America you should have gotten the MS909 it’s not all that expensive…
Yessir, since I made this video the tool has gotten much better with updates. But still a lot of let downs. I think it's time to make a current review.
I've got 15+ years experience myself friend. I bought this tool at launch and it was not good. At all. Many many updates later and today it is a much better scanner I agree, I do like it but it still falls short of claims. That being said depending on your needs there are other scanners out there to at least consider.
I have a question Drew Forthefew: the mx808 has a obd2 connection. But you can also buy cables on amazone/aliexpress for older cars (38 pins mercedes, 20 pins bmw, toyota 17 pins and so on). Does the mx808 also works by older cars with these connections? For example: a mercedes of year 2001 diesel E320 with VIN number WDB2100261B285863. Is it possible to diagnose that car with this system? I like your video anyway, good information for other buyers! Greetz from Holland!
Asked on your review....what really can it do besides reading codes and erasing them? I am looking for one that actually can diagnose things. What do you recommend for that?
This is a GREAT scan tool for $375..... you will not find one like this that can do what this can. Iv owned the 808 for a few years you can do everything it has on there it just hast to be the right application!! I have diagnosed many vehicles with this scan tool. You will NOT find a better tool for the money. You can also look into the 906bt thats a fantastic tool and does quite a bit more such as active tests and special functions. All this 808 is is a high end code reader that reads ALL modules and live data with the extra helpful functions
I bought this scan tool and have not been disappointed with it. It has successfully read every vehicle I've hooked up to. I can record live data, extract freeze frames, etc. If you are looking for a tool that you hook up and it says "change this" - that's not what these tools are designed for. You have to have automotive knowledge and experience which you apply to the information that the scanner provides you with. I paid 400 bucks for this and it was worth it. If you are looking for something that is bi-directional and allows you to check all functions on a vehicle you need to step up to a different league. This does a few tests but it's a pretty basic unit. But again - you won't get anything else anywhere near as good for the money.
you know why the obd port doesn't charge it. because when your doing programming you have to shut the key in the car on and off. if your programming a key and you shut off the ignition switch. you programming is going to be shut off when the key is cycled off. hence you need a battery is the scan tool for it to operate
Correct, it makes total sense to have battery power in that instance. but youre not always programming and its very inconvienient if you just need to grab it and make a quick scan or ect. Any other scanner ive owned will run obd power but would use a simple "battery must be above xx% to use this action" message if doing something critical. A simple update could change it and make the tool safe for programming and convenient at the same time.
Glad I found your video and glad you saved me 400 dollars thanks again I will pass on this scan tool and go with something different. Thankful for people like you who give honest reviews. Most RUclips people lie and say it's amazing because they are paid to sad world we live in honestly.
