From director George Lucas (Star Wars) and producer Francis Ford Coppola (The Godfather), American Graffiti is a classic coming-of-age story set against the 1960s backdrop of hot rods, drive-ins and rock n’ roll. Starring Ron Howard, Richard Dreyfuss, Harrison Ford, Cindy Williams, Mackenzie Phillips and Suzanne Somers in their breakout roles, this nostalgic look back follows a group of teenagers as they cruise the streets on their last summer night before college. Nominated for five Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director, American Graffiti features the howling sounds of Wolfman Jack and an unforgettable soundtrack with songs by Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, The Beach Boys and Bill Haley & His Comets.

The car . The cowboy hat . The look . Harrison Ford nails it .
I think he looks better in a fedora, for some reason.
And that smile! 🥰
That Chevy made the Kessel Run in 12 parsecs.
lol
Maybe even 11
Maybe even found the Ark of the Covenant too

The numbers don't lie.
Yeah and Chewy hadn't yet grown all that facial hair. 🤣🤣🤣
As a Kid I have loved this scene. Still to this day is an awesome racing Classic scene. My love for fast cars was at an early age
2:54 when he pulled 2nd gear through the stop light my life changed. Harrison, the song and the Chevy...Watch it a thousand times.
*YES! THE GREATEST UNIVERSAL PICTURE EVER MADE! BLESSED ONCE AGAIN! I WAS BORN 25 YEARS AFTER THIS PICTURE CAME OUT!! SAME DAY AND MONTH!!* 🥰❤️💕😍😍😍💕💖
I was 15, when it came out.
Still one of my movie faves!
steve
I was broke trying to fix my 57 chevy
Gotta love the SPARKS under the tires when Falfa hits the gas....Always bad ass
Milner stops for a red light, though.
Smoking rubber ALWAYS kicks up sparks.
Sorry, one of my most favorite movies.
Mackenzie Phillips has always been quite
pretty. Even today.
steve
That’s from the steel belts in the tires so them tires must’ve been bald bald
The sparks were from the steel belts in the tire. Little detail indicating his tires were slick. Which is why at the end he has a blow out and crashes.
Yes indeed I love this classic movie too, and I enjoyed everything in this movie including of course Harrison Ford's breakout role as Bob Falfa. This is one of those movies I can watch over and over again and never get tired of.😀😁😃😊
Absolutely
I guess it's ashame old days like these just don't exist anymore
A legend was born with this scene. Harrison ford the greatest actor of my life time
You’re car is uglier than I am!! 😳 that didn’t come out right! Lol it killed me 😂😂😂💀
CLASSIC MACKENZIE PHILLIPS!!
one of the best scenes of all time. this captured the time period perfectly. every single detail is perfect, even the soundtrack.
I love how Harrison Ford is like what did she say after Ol Carol called herself ugly by accident 😂
Love that Harrison Ford admits to doing steady work as a carpenter before AG but never mentions that he supplemented his income selling mj to his clients. Then of course when he was hired for Star Wars he didn't have to.
In a few years he'll trade that 55 in for a space ship.
he was too chicken to trade his 55 for a military uniform, can't help protect the country that gave him the opportunity to rake in all that dough acting
this is America and we get to all have our own opinion@@chiefline7084
Before Star Wars, there were THX 1138 and American Graffiti.
Love this scene when Falfa (Harrison Ford) appears to open the secondaries on the '55 as he runs the changing traffic light. Awesome.
it wasn't changing it had already turned red, that's why he says' "yeah, but he's stupid"....
If you notice Milner 's license plate on his car, it thx1138. Lucas's first movie, and I believe it was a the clearance code to get on the death star with the imperial transport.
It was also a number on the back of one of the battle droids in Phantom Menace. And you can hear General Reikan say, “Send Rogues 10 and 11 to Station 3-8” as Han and Chewie head out to investigate the probe droid in Empire.
I'm not even a big fan of the movie, and I'm not a 'car person', but...
this scene keeps coming back to me. Probably re-watched it, like... 50 times since seeing the movie in its entirety many years ago?
The scene- esp. that "main street" vibe at night. is awesome. the dialogue, too. the song in the bg
I almost wanna visit that exact street in Modesto (or Petaluma) at night just to get that feel
remember when Han Solo drive a Ford XD
its a Chevy
@@foxydefnaf3206 its a joke...
Oh yeah Harrison FORD
Would love an 4K remaster
Some ewalks in the background and FBI agents with CG walkie-talkies, no thanks.
*YES!!! YES YES YES YES YES!!!* 😃😍🤞
It's out. And it's disappointing
2:42 That's what a car is supposed to sound like
That would be the sound of a bad ass over head valve V8 straight piped with a fuel extension. Oh yeah and a 4 barrel carb
@@jakeshannon494 Yes. I don't know if you've ever seen Christine, but watch the opening sequence... that's my all time favorite sound of an engine roaring. (Christine is also the car in my profile picture, 1958 Plymouth Fury)
Thanks to RUclips recommendations I saw this scene and watched this movie. One of my favs now
Even in the smallest role, Harrison Ford still kicks ass!
Best George Lucas movie ever
“Yea. But he’s stupid”. Why Milner is so wise
A great Scene by Legendary Actors!
John Milner, a character that drives what is supposed to be the fastest car in the valley, being hunted by Bob Falfa (that names sounds an awful lot like the name of a certain Bounty Hunter in Star Wars)... Just putting this in here.
Well they’re both George Lucas films 🤷♂️
@@renlin8925 well YEAH. That's my exact point...
@@smnbee75 😂
McKenzie Phillips stole that scene !
I love how Harrison drops the accent mid scene lol
Thia is THE coolest movie ever made.
my dad's favorite flick
God I love this scene.
The license plate with the reference to THX 1138. There must be 20 references to that movie seen or heard, in Star Wars and Indiana Jones movies.
BEEN THERE,,,,,DONE THAT AT 7th & MAIN. HAD HIM BY 2 CARS AFTER SHIFTING TO SECOND. COP COMING UP FROM THE LIGHT IN FRONT OF US. I TURNED OFF, AND HE GOT CAUGHT. COP LET HIM OFF SAYING IT WAS UNFAIR TO JUST GIVE ONE OF THE GUILTY PARTIES A TICKET. THIS OFFICER WAS KNOWN FOR HIS FORGIVING NATURE, AND WAS BELOVED BY THE TOWNS CITIZENS. BOTH OF US WERE IN '62 IMPALAS. MINE A 327 CU.IN. 365 H.P. 4SPD 4:11 GEARS. HIS A 409 CU.IN. 4SPD. WE HAD BEEN EYEING EACH OTHER ON MAIN FOR ABOUT 1 1/2 YRS. THEN FINALLY HE PULLED UP SIDE BY SIDE. NOTHING WAS SAID. IT WAS JUST UNDERSTOOD WHEN THE LIGHT CHANGED WE BOTH TOOK OFF !!! I THINK HE WAS TRACKING ME. THE STUPIDITY OF YOUTH.
😀Love this movie!
Ah, the days before child safeguarding was a thing 😂
This movie should be presented every Friday night instead of that rocky horror whatever they show! Lol 😂
Before Fast & Furious fans existed, there were American Gaffiti fans
The dialogue pre Harrison is...
Well you can tell it’s a George Lucas joint.
You haven't seen a lot of older movies have you? Lol
BaLLHands87 Sure I have! And I can think of many with less clunky dialogue lol
Said the nobody, where's your movie son?
Who’s here after the Captain America 4 trailer? Harrison Ford is gonna carry the film!
So George Lucas's debut was the american graffiti before they were in development of the star wars beginner.
George Lucas's first movie is THX 1138, second movie American graffiti and third movie Star Wars that he directed all three movies.
Since THX 1138 came out, George Lucas references it everywhere. Even in American Graffiti John Milner's license plate is THX 138
The Chevy roars like a monster. It definetly had some hot stuff under that hood
i want harrison ford so badly
So, because he appeared in this movie, George Lucas had no intention of casting Harrison Ford as Han Solo, but Harrison ended up reading as the character for other actors’ screen tests and he was so good in the readings that Lucas relented and gave him the part.
Imagine if he stuck to his guns and didn’t cast Harrison. We might have gotten Kurt Russell or Perry King as Han instead and Harrison might be best known as Bob Falfa.
ford failed to do his best reading! the oath of enlistment into the US military after he turned draft dodger
Would love to have seen Harrison Ford try out facial expressions while working with the dialect coach.
Wasn't a big role, but got his face on screen!
My all time favorite race scene, etched into my teenage mind, over here in Germany.
And guess, from what country and period my first car originated?
The blonde beauty is the 2nd lady of Bob Falfa that night.
I’ve never seen anything about her identity.
@@christiansoldier1968 In some tribute video on RUclips, I saw a picture of her with Harrison Ford and the dark car.
Is that Harrison Ford?!!!
"Breakout role"?!? Nice spin, but not the truth. Ford struggled for years after A.G. to gain jobs as an actor. The "breakout" role was Han Solo.
Graffiti is my TV
They're both doing a parody inspired by Bo Diddley's "Say Man" 😉
I can’t believe that same guy will go on to play Han Solo and Indiana Jones
he turned the best part he could have ever played, a US military man. draft dodger
Im about to buy a 55 black chevy bel air built up here in San Diego by an old buddies Dad not doing to well.. Think I just might buy it..
1:33 he maybe a from Chicago but his Texas accent is really brilliant
Happy Birthday Harrison Ford!!
I bet you couldn't pay Harrison Ford to watch himself in American Graffiti 🤣
Harrison Ford, the man, the legend, the DRAFT DODGER, got no use for him, Nam 1970-71. love the movie and Milners 5 window 32 ford. This was so. calif in the 1960's, everyone had a 55-56-or 57 chevy, best friend I ever had could have been Milners twin.
Dodging the draft hardly makes him a bad person. Nobody should be forced to fight for anything they don't believe in. I thought this was America. Also, bro, 50 yrs is a long time to hold a grudge.
Wow he’s really fast isn’t he? Yeah but he’s stupid. That just about nails the description of many of my long time racer friends.
Mackenzie Phillips - Carol the girl
Paul Le Mat - John Milner (Driving the car)
Bob falfa has the same attitude than Sebulba
You've never heard of the Modesto Falcon?
Harrison Ford already had a role in George Lucas' previous movie American Graffiti before he was cast for Star Wars
How in the world Harrison Ford became a big star and Paul Le Mat didn't, is a big freaking mystery.
Le Mat IS a pretty engaging personality in this movie. I think every teen age guy, no matter their actual age, who saw this film wanted to be Milner. Tough guy speed demon who was kind to guys like "Toad" and girls like Carol, and wise enough to not do stupid things like blow through that red light.
I like Milner a lot. And I just ignore the bit at the end of the film saying he was killed by a drunk driver.
You know what though, personalizing the cost of drunk driving, even with a fictional character like Milner, really does help shape peoples attitudes about irresponsible behavior, so I'm not too mad at Lucas for killing off a great guy like John.
God challenged Milner to a drag race in heaven,......God lost.
Yellow Duce Coupes forever!
I thought it was pretty poetic to have Milner killed by a drunk driver, something he almost spoke into existence when walking in the car graveyard earlier in the film. Like the other main characters, he is at a crossroads and being pulled in two directions: keep risking his life in street races or grow up and put it behind him. He almost does the latter after the Paradise Road accident, but ironically is convinced to keep doing it by the guy who would end up getting killed in another pointless exercise of violence in Vietnam. Milner represents the toxic Americana death wish of the James Dean era who didn't learn the tragic lessons from the fallen icon.
@@gnosticcinema9596 Toad did not die. He escaped Nam.
@remogatron1010 The sequel is not canon in my opinion. If you went MIA in Vietnam, chances are that you were dead.
@@gnosticcinema9596 I loved the character of Toad. I was hoping he made it to safety in Thailand or some other safe area.
who's the blonde?
Had to make it safe (gone)
Got that small block screaming Chevy and I'm a Mopar guy is enough to cure my erectile disfunction.. now to Google Anna Nichole Smith 🤣
Give to 1985th and im make smyle tale
In FF8 Dom beat in that rod
CBsays My sister took me like 5 times to see American Graffiti.
I don't know what the 55 had in it but it wasn't a small block. That was a beefy Big Block. Your cars uglier than I am. Classic line. when she got the balloon in the face it was an accident. The window was supposed to be up. But the left it in because it was funnier.
I read about the Movie one time. They said they had to hold the Black Car Back or it would have blown the yellow one off the road.I also read that at the first Hotel they stayed in kicked them out.The Reason they were kicked out? Paul Lemat and Bo Hopkins were caught Pissing in an Ice machine.Ive done some crazy stuff in my life. That one takes the cake they were jumping off the roof and into the pool too.
Ain't he neat
They should have used a 429 cobra and that Ford Deuce coupe instead of putting the 327 Chevy in it although that 327 did a pretty good job keeping up with that 454 that was in the 55 but I just wish they would have kept Ford engine in the coop
55 had a 427

This video clip from the movie would be so awesome if you could replace the people in the cars with dogs this would be hilarious if anybody out there can do trick photography you should do it
Who was the blonde with Harrison ford ???
Her part is so small, it may be that she's only a movie extra, just a guess!
