I found all of parts identified on an Arabian horse very interesting. Particularly Pippa’s blaze ..now I’ll be checking out other horses blaze! Thanks Meryl Lynn!!
@@melaniefarber7381 Yes, Sue’s mare that she’s been competing since 2012, Kismet Cognac, is a Purebred Arabian. Almost any breed of horse, pony, or Mule can be successful Endurance mounts, if trained and conditioned properly. But Arabians far and away are the most popular breed for this sport for all of the reasons outlined in the video. 😊💜🐴
Probably a controversial comment, but I just came across a clip w/an Arab foal and was very concerned about the extreme dish. I have been out of the horse seen for a long time, but noticed in the Scottsdale Arab catalog I used to get back in the 80s, that their overall conformation was changing, not for the better. Pippa looks like this 70yr old woman remembers
@@wrendrawsstuff6403incorrect. Much like the severe breeding in dogs, the same thing is happening with Arabians. Yes, Arabians do have a dish naturally, but they are being selectively bred to achieve a more severe dish. Educate yourself.
Hi Philippa! Thanks so much for watching. The endurance sport takes a long time to properly train and condition for. The Tevis Cup requires a horse to be a minimum of 6 years to compete. The best training involves a lot of walking for the horse and gradually increasing distance and or speed. I’ve been riding/training my mare Pippa since 2016. I “try” to maintain my fitness by working out 2 times a week at OrangeTheory. My mare and I are training in the Dressage sport which also takes years to progress up through the levels. You have to love the process and the journey! 💜😊🐴
@FarBear-by6rw Hi! Unfortunately I’m not doing endurance riding with my mare although I really love the sport! I have crewed for other riders at The Tevis and a couple of SE Endurance rides! I have been in Dressage training with Pippa here in North Georgia. Really no reason to be rude.
The old saw about having 5 lumbars is only true in 30% of them- an additional 30% have their 5th and 6th verterbra are fused together giving 5 functional vertebra.. Black skin does not as you say ,' deflect,' the heat- dark colors absorb heat and hold heat.. best Bruce Peek
Hello! Thanks for watching and your thoughts. It is correct that not all Arabian horses, but many have 5 lumbar vertebrae instead of the usual 6 and 17 pairs of ribs rather than 18. Additionally all Arabians have black skin no matter the color of their coat and almost every study or book about the Arabian Horse's characteristics state that this feature provided protection from the desert sun. I know that at times in the format of a 60 second or less video I am not able to go into great detail or cite the reference material! Or I said it deflects the sun instead of saying it provides protection from the sun.
The Arabian is an absolutely fantastic horse. And beautiful!
Hi Eryn! I agree!😊💜🐴
I’m late to the video but Pippa is absolutely stunning 😍
You’re not late! All of the videos on my channel are available to watch any time!
Thanks so much! 😊💜🐴

So interesting. Is Sue's horse she rides at Tevis an Arabian ? What other breeds commonly do endurance ?

Their dishes are completely fine and natural. Do research and grow up before commenting.

How long did it take you to get fit ( both yourself and your lovely mare) to start riding endurance rides?

What do you think about mustangs for endurance horses
Watch the movie Hildalgo
Puede que tengan resistencia, pero nunca la resistencia con la velocidad que mantiene el árabe, están a años luz.
