The Warsaw Uprising was a tragedy. The Poles started it hoping that the Soviet troops just on the other side of the river would come to their aide. The Soviets sent in a Polish unit that suffered heavy casualties, so the Soviets stayed back. Everyone fought, men, women, most famously the Boy scouts and Girl Guides. The US tried to airdrop supplies but missed their zones. The Germans finally broke the resistance by forcing Polish civilians to walk in front of their troops as human shields. Afterwards the Germans forced everyone from the city, some being sent to the concentration camps, and leveled 95% of Warsaw to the ground. To this day every August the city of Warsaw stops and remembers W-hour
@@archae6451 That was during the Warsaw Uprising. The Soviets sent over a Polish unit that got decimated crossing a bridge, so the Soviets decided they would wait till it was over and watched as the Nazis leveled the city
I actually researched this moment a while ago. Soviets didn't helped not because they didn't wanted to, but because they simply couldn't. It happed because they suffered heavy losses in a tank battle of Radziemin. Also their supply line were overextended due to rapid success of Bagration offensive operation. At the same time, the German units received fresh reinforcements (which later almost defeated the 3rd Tank Corps of General Vedeneev. And yes, the Soviet troops were indeed on the "other side", but how close? In fact, the first Soviet units approached the Visla river only in mid-September 1944, when the uprising was already suppressed and all the bridges were blown up by the Germans. The Soviet General Staff (Stavka) knew about the Warsaw uprising, but they could not do anything about it, because they themselves were subjected to constant artillery shelling and the harsh and strong counterattack from the Wehrmacht. It is believed (which was also noted by the Soviet Marshal Rokossovsky (a Pole by origin)) that the reason for the failure of the Warsaw uprising was ... ego. The ego of the commander of the Home Army (Armia Krajowa), Tadeusz Komorowski, who did not want the city to be liberated by the Red Army. On August 1, he ordered the start of the uprising when the nearest Red Army forces were 500 kilometers from the Polish capital. When the leaders of the Home Army realized that they could not cope on their own, they contacted the leadership of the Red Army and they began to use aviation in a limited way (it was difficult to bomb the city point-by-point on German positions).
Yeah the polish uprising is something I wish was talked about more. the poles resistance was so fierce the Germans responded by bombing warsaw to the ground. estimated 85-90% of all buildings. if you visit warsaw the historical district is actually remakes of the buildings from photos and memories. after all the polish have been through can they PLEASE get a break
@@lechu4748 For "some feason"? Have you heard their songs? 40:1 This one And probably two other. Poland is like the gold mine for history-related music.
Around when this song came out I had a conversation with some of my army and marine friends (descriptor of their backgrounds, not mine) as well as a polish friend while playing video games. The pol said something I’d always known but never put into words. “For you, the 2nd great war ended in your grandfather’s days. It’s history. For me, it ended when I was ten and the Soviet Union collapsed. I grew in occupation.”
It's a song of a real event that happened in 1944 with real footage of the Uprising of Warsaw, where no help came to the people of Warsaw from the Allies. Great reactions and welcome to the world of Sabaton. You really have to react to: Bismarck (Official Music Video) No Bullets Fly (Animated story video) Night Witches (Animated story video. Important to choose the long version. 7:22) En Livstid I Krig (Live - The Great tour - Gothenburg. Really important to have closed captions on) Always watch until the end and always have closed captions on if possible.
For the question if they only sing about WW2 the answer is no. I'd recommend: Seven pillars of wisdom. The official music video. The last stand. The official music video.
I'm glad you guys are doing Sabaton reactions, but I think you need to do the history episodes from their channel Sabaton History as well to get the full experience. Plenty of times the music is great, but the story behind the song is even greater.
Sabaton is all about stories of war. They pick stories of great curage and valor, without picking sides. They also have a history cahnnel telling the stories of their songs. And when you can get a german crowd going wild, to a song about an american killing a lot of germans in WWI (82. all the way), youre doing something right...
The fact that an entire city, men, women, and children. All rose up and said "enough was enough we will be free or die" is nothing short of awe-inspiring and
This video was made by the Poles for the Uprising museum. It was used for this song . One of the resistance officers is actually the Deputy defense minister. And the German officer is a famous actor who made a fortune playing Nazi officers in movies. You want a real education go to Sabaton history Channel 40;1 And the line about children fighting is true the Polish boy scouts fought for Warsaw.
1:28 Sabaton sings of all the heroes throughout history. They are not restricted to only World War 2. They have songs about World War 1, and other wars before, in between and "after?".
Yes, some parts of the video included real footage of the Warsaw uprising (which was the biggest uprising of WWII, started by the Polish resistance to try to win our capital back before the Soviets do it - sadly, it failed due to lack of any outside help, and resulted in over 200 000 casualties, mostly civilians, and something like 80% of Warsaw being completely destroyed either in the fight or afterwards methodically exploded and burned down by the Germans in revenge). I highly recommend watching the Sabaton history video corresponding to this song (the band has a separate channel where they discuss the history behind each of their songs with an actual historian). As for not-WWII songs by Sabaton - try e.g. "Carolus Rex" (about a Swedish king), "Winged Hussars" (17th century siege of Vienna and the biggest cavalry charge in history) or "Shiroyama" (about the last battle of the Samurai). I also very recommend their "No Bullets Fly" animation. It's an amazing (and true, of course) WWII story - just bring some tissues!
this video contains several original shots from the uprising. the role of the commander of the uprising is played by one of the generals of the Polish army
Some info about video: Part of that video is from movie called Uprising from year 2001. And that black and white is actual footage mixed in that movie.
Fun fact about this video: Yes, your eyes do not deceive you, you do see Peter Stormaire in the video. In case you were wondering, he plays the Russian cosmonaut in Armageddon (1998), Command & Conquer 3: Red Alert (2004?), and the Czech god of death in American Gods. Other than Bill Skarsgåard, he is my favorite actor. And I would suggest, if you want to see another epically-produced video, I recommend Christmas Truce.
If anyone scrolls down far enough and is curious then have some knowledge: 1. The "P" sign, with the bottom that looks like a fishing hook that was shown a couple times in the clips, is a combination of P and W and means "Polska walcząca" so in English "fighting Poland", during the whole war scouts and children too young to actually fight would paint it on walls and building to remind people to never give up hope 2. One more thing they would paint was "pPp" or a turtle for "pracuj Polaku powoli", which roughly translates to "Poles, work slowly", since a lot of Poles were forced to work in factories supplying Nazis people making the signs urged them to make the items as slowly as possible to inconvenience the oppressors
The greatest travesty was that the Hermans left not a single building standing. Warsaw was -ground into dust- and removed from Nazi maps, erased from existence. Today’s Warsaw is actually a reconstruction, based as close as possible on old remnant maps and pictures and paintings left over, as well as returning citizens offering their memories as to what the city needed to look like in areas.
Again, fun is not the reaction I would describe this video. What about your reaction to the men, women and children dieing to save their city? Sabaton is telling a story, did it not move you in some way?
I guess their songs "Devil Dogs", "Screaming Eagles", "82nd all the way", "Primo Victoria", "To hell and back", "The lost battalion" and "Into the Fire" will please the U.S. subscribers! :-)
Fun fact: when there cleaning the guns in the music video you can see a rare French submachine gun of the second world war. Production of it didn't really take off because the Germans had taken over France at the time
Let it be known that the Polish version of the boy scouts volunteer for the fight so they are not exaggerating by saying children fought and die in warsaw
Few years old kids were on "frontline" there too, not only scouts. They were running with orders or medic packs for field nurses, because they were small and easy to hide or fit in the holes in walls.
Strange reaction and it's hard to judge it positively, nothing about music, song text or history ... just costumes, pyrotechnics and whether parts of the clip are original and the like.
Well, I think that foreigners will never understand the war we (Poland) always had. A good eye-opening is the short video about all of that: The Unconquered | ruclips.net/video/Q88AkN1hNYM/видео.html
It's not a pyrotechnics :( these are authentic film photos from the uprising taken by insurgent filmmakers, woven into the music video, there are a lot of them in the video.
The scene where the Nazi pours alcohol and lights a match resembles the event of most of Poland being blown and burnt to the ground most of Poland is a reconstruction of the old buildings.
Sabaton are history nerds, all of their songs are about some historical event, mostly battles of some kind.
Yep exept their second album Metalizer and first demos but mostly yes.
