    I have been using this recipe for over a year now and everyone thinks I'm this great chef now. I have had mothers and grandmothers taste it and they ask me "Boy where did you get this recipe from?" LOL. Let's just say its well received and I make it several times a month for family and friends. Thank you.

    I made this pie yesterday and it is absolutely delicious! My mother used to make Sweet Potato pie and I didn't like it. I took out the strings like you showed and with the spices and other ingredients you have in your recipe, I now like Sweet Potato pie. My husband says it's better than Costco's pumpkin. Surprised to hear that as I think that is the best pie ever. Thanks Carolyn for sharing your recipe with us.

      Hi Sweetie! Let me give you a tip. I had to do this once I started making these pies in 30 lb batches. After you let the sweet potatoes cool, you can use a food processor to blend or pulse them until they are smooth. It only takes a few seconds. The method in the video is good for folks that don’t have a processor but give it a try and see what you think. Thank you for letting me know how much everyone loved the pies. ❤️

      I just wanted to share some information with you: Yams are grown in West Africa, Asia and the Caribbean and are much larger than the sweet potato and has a tougher skin. In America are ONLY sweet potatoes, unless you shop at a specialty/organic grocery store. The chances of any American going to the store in America to buy yams, is slim to none. Happy baking/cooking!

    • @CookingWithCarolyn
      @CookingWithCarolyn  9 лет назад +8

      You're right. In most of our American stores I tend to find Yams more than I ever find sweet potatoes. One thing is for sure, they are all SWEET POTATOES they're just different varieties. No worries and that's why I said that because I wanted people to know that either one will work for the job. I welcome all varieties of the sweet potato :)

    • @akiva593
      @akiva593 6 лет назад +1

      you are absolutely correct, they are both sweet potatoes, one is considered to be firmer and the other softer, I am thrilled to find a video like yours that actually uses the one my grandmother uses to make her pies, this is after searching a thousand videos. And you know that there are different varieties. That's all I needed. You got me. I subscribed. Now I'm about to try this recipe. You have to be the first I've seen to use ginger. Can't wait.

    • @samaramolix-marshall4452
      @samaramolix-marshall4452 5 лет назад

      You are so right! Yams and sweet potatoes are completely different plant. Many grocery mislabel sweet potatoes as yams, which adds to the confusion. I only see yams in African and Caribbean grocery stores.

    I made your pies and they came out sooo guud! The only thing I changed was I used heavy cream instead of evap milk. I was skeptical of baking the shells 1st because I thought they might burn later on- When I cooked the pies I covered the crust with foil and the crust was perfect. The only thing I would do different is make my crust because these pies are deserving of homemade crust. Thank you for this recipe!

    Loved your recipe. It was on point for the measuring. The flavors as you indicated makes for a warm spice winter treat. Do you have any salt free seasonings. Because of health issues I am limited on my salt intake. If you don't that would be a great option to add to your popular seasonings. God bless and thanks for sharing. Oh by the way I put a spin on your recipe and baked them in Keebler Ready Crust: Graham. I use the one that state on the package 2 extra servings. My former friend had me caught on to this idea.

    I teach English to children in Taiwan. This week we are reading a story called "My Oh My, Sweet Potato Pie" in my class of 7-to-8-year-olds. While sweet potatoes and yams are readily available here, they'd never heard of sweet potato pie. So, I've decided to make it for them. I'll be using store-bought individual mini pie shells. I'd also already decided to use yams. I love your roast idea. All the many recipes I've previewed call for boiling, but I've been wondering if roasting would work. So glad I found your video. I will use it as my guide, though I won't follow it exactly, because that's just the way I roll!.. and I've been cooking and baking for decades, and have my own idiosyncrasies. But your ideas... the yams, the roasting, the prebaking of store-bought crusts, and string-removal method as well as the general sequential procedure are all super helpful tips. Thank you so much.

    Good recipe. I made it this evening and one is almost gone. I made one mistake by not mixing till completely smooth. Carolyn mentioned that the more you mix the filling, the better. Thank you for sharing.

    Hi Carolyn
    A big shout out to you for this delicious recipe. I am an Asian man and when I presented it to my blended family, I received rave reviews. A couple of ladies said I put my "foot" in those pies. This will ALWAYS be my sweet potato pie recipe. I know we have choices for other recipes but yours is my choice. Thanks again!

    All the way from Australia here, I'm indigenous and our sweet potatoes are used for both savoury and sweet...but have never tried the SPP! I am keen to try this weekend and this vid out of many would have to be the best. It will be the greatest if my pie comes out tasting yummy :) Will keep you posted :)

    instead for beating for strings I put the potatoes through a ricer and the strings remained behind. I then continued as you suggested and finished them off in the stand mixer

      Yep that absolutely works but not everyone has a ricer. It's not a tool that is common in the average household. So I showed them how to use what they have as most people have a hand mixer in the house and then they can graduate up to a tool like that.
