"It's the music that starts to play when your wife is nearly home and you just remembered you were supposed to wash the dishes" - some guy on the Internet some time ago
This is game is legendary. I was introduced to is as one of the first games in my life. Played with dad when I was 6 or 7. And it really, to this day, appearing from time to time in my mind. The soundtrack, the atmosphere of different places in the game, especially I like the old village with it’s radio compositions of fur Elise and moon sonata , architecture and overall atmosphere. X labs and tombs scaring the shit out of me to this day. Details in this game are on point as well. From dialogues to different missions and so on. You can see the hard work with its familiar as life sounds and soundtracks.
What made this game so special to me were many factors but the most important factor was playing it in a dark gloomy winter in January 2002. It was bloody cold at that time and I had a very light flu. I remember drinking my hot ginger with lemon while playing. On top of that, I was recently graduated from college in Sept 2001. I was still looking for a job after graduation so I had plenty of time to play this game day and night. Now, the other factors are the bloody dark mood of the game and the EPIC graphics. Both the game and the sky through my windows were gloomy and cold. The game was a mix of action, thriller, horror and suspense. It takes you from a prison inside a castle to cold icy weather to tombs to ashy weather in Isendadt to forest and village to science labs and you know the rest. Non of the recent Wolfenstein Bethesda titles had this chilling and long journey mix. Wolfenstein is formally dead to me after the 2009 version. The music fits very well with every cut scene and level. One can't imagine how Bill achieved this entire score with old and weak sample libraries at that time and it would be extremely expensive in 2001 to hire a live orchestra for the score. Sound effects, the vocals of the soldiers and characters were perfectly crafted and sampled. The weapons were dangerous and scary. My favorite weapons were "Sten" and "Snooper Rifle". The stealth level in the game what makes it unique in its own right. Can't remember I used any stealth in the new order or new collossus or even old blood. I was getting bored quickly when I played these games. The game is not your usual CoD-like WW2 game because it involved unique ingredients such as paranormality, magic and high German tech. There were dead summoned, manufactured creatures, super soldiers and there were the strong element of surprise. Some creatures seemed slow and suddenly you find them over your shoulders. I can write an entire blog about this game.
The game is a masterpiece. It combines historic elements of World War 2 with supernatural elements, and all in a way that is believeable. Today's games are shit compared to this one. Now adays they release games that are full of bugs, and need updated, patches, and DLC to make them better. Back then, it was all on a CD, and it didn't have bugs.
Best fucking game of all time i dont give a shit. No other wolfensteins even come close to this master piece and idc if its Bethesda this gane for the win
Damn, when I listen to this, I feel like the real war is going on outside. Thanks for this soundtrack and memories. Tomorrow, "The New Order" will be started. Greetings from Poland!
heni andolsi, you know, I wouldn't say it sucks entirely, because it is really good game, but not perfect. There are many things missing for me, for example, there could be more missions to play, placed in the castle. In spite of it, we play in castle only in the beginning, so this is little bit dissapointing.
***** Yeah i wanted it to be old school too,but luckily enough there is a prequel to be released on may that revolves around the Wolfenstein castle, seems like they understood us,did u check it out ? It's called wolfeinstein the old blood
heni andolsi, yes, I checked it. Another game on the same engine, but anyway, it should be good. If the story is as strong as in New Order, then I'll definitelly check this out on my own.
heni andolsi Well I really liked it. But then again I also liked Wolfenstein 2009 which a lot of people didn't like the only 2 problems that I had with that game were the regenerating health and that the gameplay was not as fast paced as Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Still my favourite Wolfenstein game is Return to Castle Wolfenstein. I have so many good memories about that game. It was also the first FPS that I ever played so that's pretty special as well. :) BTW for those who actually liked Wolfenstein 2009, try Singularity. It's one of my favourite shooters of the last 5 years. It was made by the guys who made Wolfenstein 2009 and there are some similarities between them but I would say that Singularity is a better game. Singularity is one of the most underrated games of the last generation of consoles.
My favorite FPS game even to this day. New Wolfenstein games have too much science fiction, but this one captured the sick mind of nazi occultism perfectly. Truly a masterpiece!
I'm playing this again after so many years thanks to Steam. I'm playing it on Windows 10 in glorious full screen 1080p. It's still a great game today. The soundtrack is fantastic. it's both scary and eerie and really gets the adrenalin going.
Thanks! The game is truly a cult classic and others have said; legendary, masterpiece. Action, creepiness, suspense, humor, and overall spooky. Awesome game progression. The other ones simply don't compare. I'd love if the game was renewed/retextured, I'd surely buy it again. Every odd year, I replay it and, sure, the graphics are dated, but still fun. I once let a friend try the game and he was addicted soon after... and the guy dislikes games, or so he claimed beforehand. 😂
Is this the best shooter ever made? Of course. I mean, everything is brilliant in this game. The graphics, the story, soundtrack, sound effects...And i have to say i spent hours trying to beat levels. Some of my friends even called me to their house so i could help them
Nah the best thing about this song was simply because it was on the installation for RTCW. As it was installing I would sit there humming it all the damn time and I've reinstalled it like 7 times haha
Over all the Wolfenstein games ever made. This one is #1 Top of the list. This game was legendary. The tomb missions, occult, zombies and dark side of the SS with the historical Ahnenerbe was something that all together made this game a horror game and an action game. I miss those days when games were this good.
It's the best FPS ever made. Probably next to the original DOOM in terms of pure fun. But this game is more complex and submersive. Soldier of Furtune: Double Helix is also an underrated game.
My jam : 2:22 Alarm (in early levels) 6:20 Return to Castle Wolfenstein immediatly. Notify Herr Himmler. We found him! 9:37 War 12:20 THE UNDEAD ! Where the sh*t begins ! (and one of my fav levels, the Defiled Church) 19:19 OH SH*T OH SH*T OH SH*T !!! You walk peacefully and them hear this theme, and you know you're f*cked ! Kinda like "X" themes in Perfect Dark ! The SS Elite Guard paratroopers ! My regret : it is played only once in the game... 27:20 Calmness in early levels. In addition, the harp notes remind me of Hexen instruments
Every time i hear this i hear an alarm & the speaker alerting the guards saying in german: ALARM! ALARM! FEIND SPY IN DER ARMORY! which means ALARM! ALARM! ENEMY SPY IN ARMORY!
This is one of Best soundtrack ever Made. Creating rly specific atmosphere. It fits to ever level. Rly great. The undead in crypt is almost most scary track i ever felt in game.
I played the crap out of the multiplayer for this game! I wish they would redo it in next gen graphics, instead they go with occult or NWO style. While playing Battlefield 3 Metro, it reminded me of the old RTCW Depot map. Both games are class based with the same classes. I'd never play any other game if this was redone. There's nothing more exciting than panzerfaust-ing 32 players spawning, flamethrower or calling in an airstrike with a can of smoke.
I do not think i ever had more fun in any multiplayer game like i had in Wolfenstein return to castle, so many memories with old friends. I wish it was remastered too, and its soundtrack is one of the best game soundtracks out there I will definitely play it again soon :D
Cant get enough of this awesome soundtrack!!!! Especially at 19:22, my favorite. If I was a millionaire I'd build a theme ride out of RTCW with the soundtrack playing throughout it all! Or I'd do a cable mini series on it.
FEEDBACK REQUESTED! So guys I had an idea for some extra videos. 1) I was thinking of making a video with some great songs to listen to while gaming. I was thinking of making one with different songs from game soundtracks. (like: Return To Castle Wolfenstein, DOOM, Quake II, Crysis 3, etc.) 2) I would also like to make a metal playlist with bands like: Slayer, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Sabaton, Judas Priest, etc. (Songs that I think fit well for gaming, it should be a fun mix of some bigger and some smaller bands). This doesn't mean that there won't be normal soundtrack videos (I will keep making those, this is just an idea for some more variation) :) IS THIS SOMETHING YOU GUYS ARE INTERESTED IN? PLEASE? FEEL FREE TO GIVE FEEDBACK. :)
+tominatorxx I like this idea alot! It would be awesome to have something like at the start something calm for the setup of the battle, and then the music kicks in, that would be amazing! :)
This game is great because its atmosphere and environment are one cohesive, believable, consistent piece. And the music is 50% of why that is the case. The entire soundtrack in on the money and I'd love to be able to load the game up right now and have another play-through.
While installing the game and 19:20 was playing you where already eager to play the game and just knew it was gonna be a good game. :D Great upload, thank you.
Love the soundtrack. Love the game. Favorite of all time. I have new copies wrapped up and stored away. Yeah, a little crazy, but I love this game. Immersive. Great scenery. Classic.
33:29 It took me my third replay to notice the subtle mood shift that the music made. At the very start of the game the music is eerie and depressing but as soon as you get the Luger and an open some doors the music shifts to a more optimistic 'let's get this thing rolling' mood
My dad used to play this game when i was 5-6 years old in 2006. This shit had scared hell out of me those times and I still remember sometimes i couldn't look at the screen lol
this game is best. When i hear this, i remember too much memories on this game... strong music... (episode unhallowed ground i play in night.... i scared :) )
To me it was the best first person shooter on ps2....and i don t know why i find this even better than todays games allthough modern graphics are 10 times better...
I like how every level had it's own soundtrack, in modern games, it's repeating all the time, some games have something like that, but not in such scale that you have really totaly different soundtrack in each level.
They just dont make games like these anymore. :(
43:25 my favorite :3

My dad used to play this game when i was 5-6 years old in 2006. This shit had scared hell out of me those times and I still remember sometimes i couldn't look at the screen lol
The Best game with the best music .. Thanks for the developers , designers , and Uploader :)
*12:22**, **22:50**, **31:22**, **41:12** scary music*
Hands down the best soundtrack in any war related media ever
I just love the eerie sound in the tracks. Most noticeable in Base Alarm. 34:33, 39:17

maybe its multiplayer
Precious music! I love this game!
Spieles wie diese, nie alt. Ich spiele dieses Spiel auch heute gerne. Und ja, Musik ist genial. :)
To me it was the best first person shooter on ps2....and i don t know why i find this even better than todays games allthough modern graphics are 10 times better...
One of the best soundtracks ever
Action! In combo with the alarm in Norway is my favorite 🔥
12:40 QUICK SAVE QUICK SAVE QUICK SAVE QUICK SAVE QUICK SAVE QUICK SAVE
I like how every level had it's own soundtrack, in modern games, it's repeating all the time, some games have something like that, but not in such scale that you have really totaly different soundtrack in each level.
Such an awsome soundtrack!
No fps game will ever beat that one, period!!
I remember Action entering the war torn city with just dual pistols and straight up mercing the enemy
The best wolfenstein game.
