Right, IMHO Roine is a much better musician (composer and arranger), I'd say a great one, than a guitar virtuoso. Although he plays guitar as I'd like ;)
Something these guys do right before Roine dives into his solo in this and other songs is a key change which makes it even more impactful. Keep rocking us Neal and company!
If more people listened to and were emotionally uplifted by this song (and songs like it), our world would be a better place. I guess we just need to... shine 😉... and keep making music to "shine the way."
Absolutely brilliant song. Love the Indian floruishes, the mellotron bits. The middle eight Portnoy vocal, great bass, beautiful tone to the solo. Wonderful, wonderful song.
wow, big prog rock fan since the 70s but never heard of Transatlantic, don't recall where I heard of them, but finally decided to listen to something from them while looking for some music at work last night. I made my co-workers listen to this song at least 10 times in a row. Love discovering "new" bands/music.
Mike's got one of those frreakish memories for that kind of stuff. He did an interview not too far back when he said that he just has the ability to remember all of these different songs and can pretty much just show up and play with little or no rehearsal.
Maybe it's just me that sees this song for what it is. A song for you asking you to hold the light, ...no matter the darkness, ...to find the light inside you, and shine your Love for all to see. They know if all the people listened to this with their hearts and felt these things, there would be no more wars, or starvation, or hate. To see that all men can feel these things and asking us to shine together. I Love this song so much...
I love it. I love Neil's ballads sandwiched between the epics. Neil has always been my port in the storm. He's a songwriter that writes from his heart.
When i first came across this video i didn't think much of it musically being a progressive rush dream theater, transatlantic fan etc. but when my mom was dying of cancer in 2016 this song took on, and still does take on a new meaning. maybe to the negative comments from people who dont understand, play this video because it fits perfect when you lose some one you love, and you will FEEL what this song is for. p.s. some of you can bark at Christ as much as you wish, but remember this, he doesn't bark he BITES back! i know from countless criticism the disciplinary hand of God
This ballad really got everything a ballad needs. Acoustic guitar with just enough reverb, a great choir and last but not least the great and heavy guitar solo near the ending. I hope that these guys some day will come to Norway and have a concert! I saw Neal Morse and his band in Oslo this summer and I must say that even though I'm not a religious person I actually sat on the bus back home that day and felt like I was traveling back from a visit to heaven :)
Another ballad I love is the title song on Bridge Across Forever. The title song is so beautiful even though it's just Neal Morse singing and playing piano. You should also check out his former band Spock's Beard.
I remember the first time I heard Transatlantic. I was in Newbury Comics just looking around and saw this SMPT disc and thought, "hmmm, what's this?" I saw that Mike Portnoy was a member of this project, so I took a shot. I got in the car, opened the insert up and started reading a little. Then I saw that dreaded word next to Neal's name.... "vocals." NOOOO! But, I thought, "well, I'll still give it a chance. From the moment I heard "In a state of fallen grace..." I was hooked! Here's a voice that made my ears smile, and the music was fantastic, as well! These guys work SO WELL together! Spock's Beard wasn't the same after Neal left ("Snow" was awesome). The imagery of someone growing in their faith that's prevalent in Neal's solo work, as well as more recent TA material, makes it all the more worth listening to. Sure, "Shine" is atypically simple for these guys, but they somehow still make it gorgeous.
Bravo! Bellisimo! This is great!! Vocal harmonization was outstanding. Roine played in great taste - as usual! Thanks for the early peak at Kaleidoscope. I can't wait to see you guys at The Keswick theater in Philly on Feb 8th!! See you then!
Liked this arrangement a lot. The singing duties were passed around. The gtr solo is something we have all heard a 1000 times but I would still want to see it live.
Can't believe all the moaners. this is a beautiful song with all the usual features of the Transatlantic ballad that appears on most albums (and on Spocks ones before that). I have no doubt the rest of the album will be full of the magic of the others. That's one of their strengths - the ability to pull of a variety of styles in one album. Listen to the whole thing before whinging! If you don't like any of it, buy something different! As for Mike Portnoy - all power to his elbow for sharing his talent around - what a guy!
What an underrated song and band.....OMG.....these guys and their music in many instances can appeal to so many, from Prog/Rock, Adult Contemporary to Pop and get the credit, recognition and fame they deserve.
I think this song is as great as "we all need some light", I also think the guys are not losing the point here, mainly because every Transatlantic song have being made to elevate somehow the listeners, it's also what TFK does in every album they release, and they're not christian. I think Progressive music as a whole have been made to take u to another state of mind, it doesn't matter what religion u are.
He has definitely been one of my biggest drumming influences, and it certainly helped me to get better at playing drums by listening to him when I was a teenager. 😎🥁
I loved the first 2 albums. Wasn't too big on Whirlwind but I'm really looking forward to his one. As for this track, I hope its just a calmer in between some epic prog tracks.
Bendiciones
Beautiful song. Looking forward to the rest of the album! For those of you that cannot appreciate excellence whether it is rocking or mellow, there are other things out there....Slayer?
I love Transatlantic (they're my favourite band, actually). But i'm a also an huge fan of Neal Morse, and i think this track is a bit influenced by Morse's Cradle to the Grave ;) Great Stolt's solo, by the way!
Boy -- the anti-religious bigots showed up in force on the comments of this video. The video was a cheap production, I'll give you that. In the context of the rest of "Kaleidoscope," this song fits well, so, to judge it as a stand alone, and to throw rocks because of its spiritual overtones and lyrics is to understand neither the album NOR the songwriter, Neal Morse. Neal is a Christian. Get over it. His band members don't seem to object. If anything, it has contributed to his creativity, productivity and virtuosity over the years. In the context of his work, and that of this album and Transatlantic as a group, this song works, and works well. The video -- not the greatest, but it will do. Don't like this tune? Well, wait for the next one. The beat will pick up, the lyrics will change, and maybe God won't be so evident, and you won't feel so awkward, angst-ridden, offended and [gulp] guilty.
I don't hate the lyrics either, it can be hit or miss but especially in the last 10 years I feel Neal Morse has become far more consistent with his lyrics. This is a beautiful example of this.
@@heavymetalheretic5386 insanely good team Neal and mike no matter who they play with all amazing. TNM or TA not a bad tune... neal also does NOT badger. He is pure good.
Listening in 2020 during a virus Pandemic ..needed
I keep coming back to this song over and over. It’s immaculate. Thank you 🙏🏼
Roine Stolt is one of the most under-rated guitar players out there. His solos are so soulful an beautiful. Amazing band. Everyone is equally awesome!
Right, IMHO Roine is a much better musician (composer and arranger), I'd say a great one, than a guitar virtuoso. Although he plays guitar as I'd like ;)
I love Roine's solos. Incredibly melodic and emotional.
Yes !!!!
Agreed, he has such a distinctive and emotionally powerful style/vibe when he solos (and in general)!
Gotta love the diversity in this group: pastor Neil, pirate, hobbit, and roine
Thank you Neal!
Absolutely brilliant song. Love the Indian floruishes, the mellotron bits. The middle eight Portnoy vocal, great bass, beautiful tone to the solo. Wonderful, wonderful song.
This guitar solo is perfection. It has a feeling that few guitarrists have, as it reminded me a lot of Steve Rothery's type of solos.
pure artistic perfection !
wow, big prog rock fan since the 70s but never heard of Transatlantic, don't recall where I heard of them, but finally decided to listen to something from them while looking for some music at work last night. I made my co-workers listen to this song at least 10 times in a row. Love discovering "new" bands/music.
I get a massive eargasm every time I listen to that solo
Mike's got one of those frreakish memories for that kind of stuff. He did an interview not too far back when he said that he just has the ability to remember all of these different songs and can pretty much just show up and play with little or no rehearsal.
How beautiful it sounds, this is a very sad song .... if you know the story behind it.
Hi Jean,
Could you share us what's the story behind this song?, please 👀
Damn. Missed this. Some cop should charge me
I'm amazed and just shocked that this band is done playing together.
Amazing group of guys. So much talent in this band!!!
Love Roine's voice and solo on this track. Can't wait for the full album!
best solo i've ever heard since a long time ago
Maybe it's just me that sees this song for what it is. A song for you asking you to hold the light, ...no matter the darkness, ...to find the light inside you, and shine your Love for all to see. I know allá of them , each one un their own banda , but OMG they are si good together.
I love it. I love Neil's ballads sandwiched between the epics. Neil has always been my port in the storm. He's a songwriter that writes from his heart.

One of my favorite bands of all time! Went to their concert in San Francisco last year, small venue, few people, just special!
This ballad really got everything a ballad needs. Acoustic guitar with just enough reverb, a great choir and last but not least the great and heavy guitar solo near the ending. metaljulle I thought it is awesome I want to hear more songs like this with Neal as the singer👍beautiful song
Check out that song called We all need some light from the SMPT:e-album.
Another ballad I love is the title song on Bridge Across Forever. The title song is so beautiful even though it's just Neal Morse singing and playing piano.

What an amazing song and message! Love the guitar solo also.

Great setting for the video shoot and a great song from the cracking new album.

Thanks for the early peak at Kaleidoscope. I can't wait to see you guys at The Keswick theater in Philly on Feb 8th!!
See you then!
Us too, ...6 of us on the 8th in the city of brotherly Love. I'm so pumped...
Wow, these guys look really stoned. Thats how you know their a great prog rock band.
Liked this arrangement a lot. The singing duties were passed around. The gtr solo is something we have all heard a 1000 times but I would still want to see it live.
Great song ☺, a salute and respect from Ecuador 👋
That solo is just something else, you can feel the emotion
I really love Stolt's voice!! It's just so natural.
Oh God! this is so good! i can't wait for the new effort from this grandiose Transatlantic!!

I ❣ this. I'm truly inspired by your music. May God bless you all
Unbelieveable that it is 8 Years ago!!! I still love this Iconic Song from you Guys!!! Thanks!
One of the most beautiful songs ever made. So touchy!
great supergroup.can't wait to see what they come up with next
this is the best singing I've heard from Mike Portnoy so far
HAHAHA
you call that singing? It sounds like Stephen Hawking's computer singing.
You must her the demo version of DT's "The Best of Times".
Very touching!
ansgarrules thanks do you have a link for that?
Nice to hear him sing something a bit mellow, even though it is so brief
I love it! Waht a beautiful tune, can't wait for the full álbum

2014 is gonna start SO right with NEW TRANSATLANTIC! WooHoo!
Mike Portnoy makes everything sound lovely to the ears in some way.
Call me ignorant, but I think he is a true artist on drums.
He has definitely been one of my biggest drumming influences, and it certainly helped me to get better at playing drums by listening to him when I was a teenager. 😎🥁
Great music guys, cant wait to hear the whole album...I'm getting warm here
Fantastic atmosphere....See you soon in Barcelona!!
Absolutely enjoyed it!Thanks Neal,Mike and co!

a eso se llama hacer buena música tomando todos los elementos que conforman cualquier genero musical sin encasillarse en uno en especifico :-)
+Josue Guadarrama Opino exactamente igual. Un saludo.

Asi como tambien lo es Neal Morse Band.
Grande cuore, grande raffinatezza, grande band! Non vedo l'ora di vederli live!
Now that is beautiful music!!
It's a beautifull ballad....another "Bridge across forever"
the only 2 songs they I like from transatlantic shine and we all need some light👍
That's nice the guitar sound.
Looking forward to their gig in Brazil next month!
Love the key change with the solo!
Fantastic! Love the photography!!
Damn shame this CD is apparently out of print.
Manuel, si lees eso, quiero que sepas que aún escucho esta canción que me dedicaste :'v
Que comentario más hermoso. Pulgar arriba para que Manuel lea esto.
What a brilliant song…stunning!!
Great!
And this "look" at 2:54 - priceless!
Guitar solo aaaaaaa ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️!!
Amazing video and song!! Another great TA ballad
How the f this masterpiece only gets 330k fckn views?
Greatest band around now.
Pete Trewavas, still a huge influence on me!

Not a candidate for the "Best of Transatlantic" playlist.
Beautiful song. Looking forward to the rest of the album! For those of you that cannot appreciate excellence whether it is rocking or mellow, there are other things out there....Slayer?
Excellent ! MERCI
Take it for what it is and not what it isn't
I love this band and yes I'm going to see them in mexico city!!!!!!
Neal Morse is a very honest singer and songwriter.
Maravilloso, sin palabras!
Bellissima ballad. Emozionante. Grandi come sempre....
Best solo ever.
