I very much recommend having an "obscure mode day" where you do QSOs in modes like these. You don't need to make long faxes, even just short strips 1 minute long are fine.
Would you agree that the built-in battery of the FT-817/FT-818 is a bit 'weak'? (understatement). I once installed an Windcamp upgrade but it's not that great of an improvement either. So I take external LiFePO batteries with me. It would be great if someone came up with a really beefy LiFePO battery pack that would fit inside the FT-817, and also could be charged just by having the 817 plugged in. Amen.
@@Katchi_ I wonder if there are still vessels using these kinds of weather maps. Perhaps old Phillipine fishing boats which havent upgraded their nav systems since the 60's.
Awesome stuff Peter

Thanks for video Peter. It sounds a little like SSTV. I have been using Fldigi for years but never tried using it for WEFAX.
Thanks Peter. I find using the fax extension in kiwisdr is better than using separate software like fldigi.
It'll automatically tune, too!
Hi Peter would it be possible if you could have a go at a Moon bounce one day? It’d be interesting.
Voice commentary would be nice. The captions do not stay on the screen long enough to read.

Agree. I always use an external battery.
Shame the number of these stations is steadily decreasing.
Did you see the results? You should be questioning why any remain.

Things are better. It isn't a shame. It's a great thing.
We really do need to stop just clinging to nostalgia in this hobby.
