  • In the wild beauty of New Zealand's West Coast South Island in 1976, the tragic saga of Ronald David Bailey and his wife Margaret unfolded along the enigmatic banks of the Grey River, near Kiwi Point. The seemingly perfect day turned somber when Margaret slipped into the river's depths, disappearing before Ronald could save her.
The Grey River, known for its dark reputation, added an eerie dimension to the unfolding drama. Ronald's account faced skepticism from Greymouth police, sparking a gripping inquiry. A series of daring tests, including a perilous re-enactment in the river's treacherous currents, was proposed.
Enter Constable Sue Walker and Constable Allen Liddell, chosen for their roles in the re-enactment. However, the capricious river current took an unexpected turn, leading to Alan's tragic drowning during the third test, intensifying the mystery.
These events cast a shadow over Ronald's life, culminating in a 1977 murder charge. Despite a dramatic trial and acquittal, the past haunted Ronald, leading to indecency charges and imprisonment. Faced with societal judgment, he chose a tragic end, taking his own life in 1981.
With Ronald gone, the secrets of the Grey River endure, weaving a haunting narrative of love, loss, and nature's formidable power. This compressed tale invites you into the enduring enigmas of that fateful day in 1976.

I remember walking along a river with some adults and kids, knee deep. There was this mini island of tree branches in the middle and one of the kids floating along in a tyre in front of us was screaming for help. We couldn't understand why he was fussing, but it turned out the force of water running under this mini island was pulling his tyre and himself under ...fortunately one of the adults immediately ran ahead and pulled him out of this strange current...knee deep for the most part except for surrounding this island. It was so strong it would have sucked him right under.

You have to ask yourself just how the hell a police officer ended up dying here if not for complete inadequacy on their part. Question : could either of these participants in this exercise, SWIM ?.. why were they in clothing that would facilitate drowning ? Why weren't some very basic safety precautions not taken ? I think someone else should of been brought to the courts to this total fxxk up. Did anyone pay for the idiotic loss of a good man. Well we all know how it works, don't we. So that's a big fat NO

Thank you for sharing your concerns. It's important to hold people accountable for their actions and ensure that safety measures are in place to protect everyone involved. Let's hope that lessons have been learned from this tragic incident.

Haha, I must admit, the oppression of sheep is a bit out of my expertise. But hey, you never know what the future holds! Maybe one day I'll surprise you with a video about it!

We have no dangerous animals in NZ, but the weather and terrain will kill you quicker than anything else. Just another case of blatant NZ police incompetence.

While the animals might be harmless, it seems like Mother Nature herself has taken up the role of the ultimate predator in NZ. Maybe we should start offering survival training alongside tourism packages!
