- In 1955 for about one year, the USAF Thunderbirds jet demonstration team flew F-84F Thunderstreak jet fighters. Here's an old film edited to capture the highlights of the F-84F era of the Thunderbirds. For more Fabulous Fifties Flying, see that Playlist on Airailimages: • Fabulous Flying Fifties

Always have been a fan of this jet.
Me too, and the regular F-84. I like an underdog. I think this plane doesnt get the credit it deserves because of the F-86, its basically like the Hurricane next to the Spitfire. In both cases the sexy plane makes everyone crap all over the slower plane, even though both were good planes in their own right. Everyone's like "this plane wasn't quite as good as the very best, therefore it is crap!". It's like no, its like being a second rate player in a professional league: the very worst players are still very, very good, they only look bad next to the very best. Like there are no bad drivers in F1 cars.
Anyway, this was a primary combat jet for dozens of nations for decades. And it's just cool looking, with machine guns in the nose AND wing roots, and a canopy that lifts up while staying horizontal, etc.
Awesome Thunderbirds history. Thanks... 😉
Our pleasure! Thank you for watching.
Even with the grainy film this was an excellent posting by you Fred. THANKS!
You are always welcome.
Sir, came here from you current F-100 Thunderbird video. Another jewel in the crown. And the music you put with it combines excitement with an almost eerie somber tone. Fits quite nicely. Thank you for preserving these historical gems. Take care and God Bless, Paul from Florida.
You are always welcome. This stuff is fun!
The very last time I saw an F-84 was in 1965. It was an ANG plane landing at our airbase. I was surprised that old bird was still operational.
There were F-84 assigned at Selfridge Air Force Base, Michigan just outside of Detroit.
Excellent, choice & RARE, thanks Fred!
I am reading a book by Jack Broughton who was leader of the Thunderbirds flying the F-84Fs. The book is titled Rupert Red 2, by Jack Broughton
Roland Reagan a great guy and combat leader
Thanks. Great Video.
Glad you liked it.
My Father, Sanford Weiss, was a Captain of the Thunderbirds in 1955. This is so cool!
Something about those polished aluminum jets 😁
Yes -- it was a good look. Thanks for watching.
I would have love to have seen the rapid advancement of aviation during and right after World War 2. It would have seemed like science fiction.
Looks more like a Thunderstreak.
