I am making your Summer Haze quilt for my son and future daughter in law’s wedding. Thanks for clarifying the tape on the ruler method, looks so much more accurate and faster than other methods!
Thank you so much for this video. I have the CPSR rulers and they work wonderful for standard size HST. For this quilt I need to cut to 2 3/4 in. The second method using the square ruler and tape works fantastic. Thank you
Yes, that’s right. We say “unfinished” to clarify that is the size of the block before it’s sewn to another block. With a 1/4” seam, a 2 1/2” unfinished HST will become a 2” finished HST.
This is a great video but I would like to see a video where you’re squaring up a 5 inch or something smaller than the actual ruler size. The demonstration was very simple because your squares were the exact same size of the ruler. I have this ruler and I can’t figure out how to use it for the smaller sizes.
I'm new to quilting.. I understand why we trim the dog ears.. can someone explain why we need to trim the actual square? If we measured shouldn't it be 6 inches?
Thanks for a very helpful video. Would love to have the pattern for the quilt that was hanging on the wall when you started the video. Is this available for purchase?

If I may kindly note... the paper backing on the CPSR is suppose to be removed. It will be much easier to see the seamline and line it up accurately.
I have these slotted trimmers and they’re great. One of my quilts had nearly 900 hsts and the slotted trimmer saved the day!
I didn’t even know how badly I needed this tutorial till now! Thank you!!
Thank you, a very intelligent method using the square ruler, 1 cut and voila ...done.
When I’m told to trim to 2 1/2” unfinished size. Can you clarify? Am I just making sure it’s 2 1/2 x 2 1/2”?
