This is a great tip. When I LOOK at the exact spot I am going for I have a much greater chance of hitting it. And open seams are the ticket here too. Big help! Thank you, I am subscribing!
I was about to go out of my mind trying my first quilt with hst and your video popped up. Immediately did 3 using this tip and all turned out perfect!! Thank you!
Folding the seamline down is so important! I lined up my seams at the fabric edge and nothing matched right after it was sewn. Thank you for this tutorial!
You’re saying you press seams open for “perfect” blocks but at 4:00 mins you show the backside and your seam allowance is clearly not 1/4” from one end to the other so did you square the block up after sewing? I’d also like to see how you iron the center of your 4 HSTs to help reduce bulk
If I'm going to do a 3x3 half triangle square (total of 9 half triangles combined into 1 square) and i need it to be the same size as a solid 12.5" square, how do I calculate that?
Don't they make drop down tables where the sewing machine sets flush with the table top? That gap would drive me crazy. Its why I haven't bought one yet

brilliant!!
Lee, Where do I find the cutting mat you are using. And I found your demo video most helpful. I have 17 block to complete, feeling confident.
I like that cutting mat too!
should have watched this before I ironed my seams to one side and then sewed the squares. now have bulky seams. oh, well...next time!
How do you sew the first two half square triangles together perfectly?
It's in the video at about the 2:30 mark!

Tanta demora para pegar un cuadrado

My table is a drop-down table with a clear plexiglass insert that surrounds the machine, so no gaps. : )
Can you cut those dog ears off before you sew. They seem to catch in my quarter inch foot with guide.
Yes, you certainly can!
