Today we are back at it with some fresh Nissan 240z content. Unfortunately, this video won't cover the carbon fiber Datsun project, but you won't be disappointed. Chris from B is For Build reached out to us to build him a pair of tail lights for his 240z project that he is attending SEMA in. We decided to do this because its cool to collaborate with others especially when we all share the same passion for building awesome project cars and having a great time with friends doing so.
with that said we restore a pair of his 240z tail lights by taking them apart and inserting our LED tail light board into the 240z Datusn housing. we show the steps taken in this 2 part series so sit back and enjoy!

Dude your style of cinematic shooting is stellar.
Those PCB's you made with all those LED's wow, so much soldering just for one tail light must have taken few hours just for one! They look well made all spaced nicely good soldering skills! Very nice maybe bit heavy on the amount of black base in the 2K Clear unless they where meant to be so blacked out ( Illegal where i live ). Did mine few weeks ago to restore them and only added a few drops of black in the clear, put 3 coats on it and was perfect for hiding all the things i needed it to and darkening ever so slightly. Will love to see part 2!

Quick question. Haven’t heard an answer myself but. Where do you guys work at? Like is that just a giant garage for car enthusiast or do one of y’all own it or rent a space?
Watch some of the q and a sessions they did, greg and Tim have a car body shop their dad started, they muck about with their own cars on their days off. , xavier just hangs around looking way too cool for Skool.

Hey, guys ! Love your work. Just wanted to ask, as I'm planning an LED tailight project myself, how did you make the turning lights sequential ? Thanks !
Both great channels, prefer you guys though :) The quality of work and video production values etc I think make this the best automotive channel on the net right now. Anyways..., Tim you need to make Chris an engine and chassis loom - it's the main thing letting his build down in my opinion. The SCS Delta 880 ECU runs an S85 with BMW CANbus DBW etc, so maybe he will listen to you guys telling him to standalone it, it also runs closed loop paddle shift so might do his SMG tranny also.
I do believe Greg is my spirit animal. Back ground warrior for the win. Keep on chiming in to keep Xavier and Tim on their toes my fine not so feathered friend.

Love the quality of work but my preference would have been clear over the tail lights or even a red tint
What about the foreign language outros? In Germany you would never be able to pass the Straßenverkehrs-Zulassungs-Ordnung with these awesome tinted lenses. :(

I like this, but why not add the tint to the translucent red? Making it darker? Or even go for a darker red? Why the decision to just paint them black?

Did you guys do all of the led work on the inner lens? What’s driving the led sequential turns?
Why don't you guys put some kind of diffuser over the LEDs, IMO* seeing individual LEDs like that when lit up just looks tacky

If you've ever seen shelf liner being used to spray a carbon fiber type pattern, I did the same thing with my tail-light tint. I wrapped the light and sprayed it. Took the the shelf liner off leaving the pattern on the lenses and then sprayed the whole thing again. Only feathering the paint out so it was lighter in front of the bulb and darker on the outside edge. It really ended up looking good and allowed more light to pass through then if I sprayed the entire thing.
Such a clean job!

@Liam Cresswell it is a bit rushed and drive ability characteristics are still unknown and likely will be a bit wonky.... But he's pushing boundaries!
I AM Design Products it is also very unoriginal, basically a poorly thought out and built copy of the 240 z that won best of show last year, but with a bmw running gear. The concept was great, but I wish he had gotten a pro to build the chassis and suspension, and taken the time to do decent quality work. I frankly think he is making himself the laughing stock of SEMA rather than getting the attention he craves. It will likely be left abandoned in a field by this time next year.
Crazy KT im not sure you understand the concept behind b is for build. Its showing that an amateur can do these type of things on a budget, sure you can get a pro chassisbuilder and a pro mechanic and painter and such. Spend 100k easily, or see how someone without experience can figure stuff out and build it themself.
Beside that i think its way more satisfying that you can look at your own creation and say i did that other than let somebody else do all the work and only throw money at it.
I do agree that a lot of things are kinda sketchy and not build for long term, als the time frame he set himself is way to short, he is taking shortcuts he Will regret later

There isn’t that much bondo... just some in the dents and low spots.
Sirens Chris has put a fair amount of body filler on that car and I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a bunch more under the multiple layers of existing paint.
Average people who call themselves car guys have no idea how important body filler can be to a really great paint job. It's a large part of what makes a $7k paint job $7k.
