    Would you use a sling bag?

    • @miguelreyes1455
      @miguelreyes1455 5 лет назад +9

      Definitely. I was just traveling with a nomatic travel pack, and realized that I needed something smaller to carry my phone , Nintendo switch, and battery pack so I wouldn't have to get them from my bag up in storage, and a sling seems perfect.

    • @poetic.voyage

      Definitely! I used one for all the things you mention here, but also a small umbrella. The later came in very handy while wandering about SE Asia during rainy season.

      I do, I'm using Peak Design 5L. It's a greatly designed sling bag. But the only con I havr is that the actual "sling" is thin and feels cheap, unlike their messenger line. Also, the handle wore out pretty quickly which is bad

      Hi Nathan 🙋 Yes, I could actually use a sling pack. Right now I'm just using an Eddie Bauer packable sling. I need something more secured. I'm wondering if you guys ever come across a Pacsafe Vibe 150, could you do a review on it. I have one in my Amazon shopping cart but won't be buying it until I'm back in the States. Thanks!

    More sling bag reviews like this, please!
    Although some say sling bags don't make much sense, for someone like me who's very active and have busy legs, It's much better to have items in them instead of pockets!
    I found your reviews and website are solid-legit and very helpful! The intuitive scoring system, very thorough point-outs, and also you guys are very responsible and interactive. Perfect!
    Thanks to you, I decided to order Aer Travel Pack 2 and I'm very excited to get it :) Please keep your great works! I'm really counting on you guys!

    Wow! I bought many items based on your review such as Aer Travel Pack 2 but this Day Sling 2 is one of the very few items that I bought even before your review lol I've been using it all the time over the past 2 months and just love everything about it and the inside organisation being all the same doesn't really bother me at all. However, I find the elastic fastener a bit too loose. It just keeps slipping as I walk or move my arms.

    Well, I'm kind of a bag nut, too, so I have several to choose from in the small sling category. I like my Aer a lot and it still looks and functions like new but I don't find that it carries that well crossbody. It almost feels like it was originally designed to be a fanny pack and then they chose to modify it to be a cross body sling. I like it but I wear it over just one shoulder when I use it and not really as a sling. There are a few 'deceptively named' sling bags out there like that. I find that the Peak Design 5L is really much better to use as a sling than the Aer. I'm not into camera gear so I removed the inserts from the Peak and it works really well. Another sling that is outstanding is the Maxpedition mini valence (7L). That thing is a work of beauty, wears close to the body, is constructed extremely well, and tops them all really.

      Hey Nathan - thanks for letting us know what your go-to slings are! It's awesome to hear that you were able to adapt the Peak Design Everyday Sling so that it works better for you! Do you have any other recommendations in the 1.5-2l range? I had the 5l PD then replaced it with a 10L so my iPad would fit. But now in summer, I am looking for something a bit smaller.

      I do have a suggestion for you, Karen. In the one to 2 L range, if you were looking for something really light weight that is made very well and is a pleasure to wear and just hold your essentials like a wallet, cell phone, and keys, the packable hip pack from Matador is what I would suggest. I think that is about as good as it gets for that purpose.

  • @KerenWang

    Living in Europe i find it difficult to track down these without having 50% of the bags price on top being import and additional tax. Have you guys looked at the Mammut Seon Bumbag before? I think quite a lot of 'hip' folks would definitely also recognize the climbing gear company ;)

    • @PackHacker
      @PackHacker  5 лет назад +1

      Hey R Ww - we found that placement on your back and the weight of the sling are big factors in keeping them from swinging around. This isn't a problem we ran into, but we'll keep an eye out for this in testing in the future. 🙌😊

      I have a MCB and find that it constantly slides around when I wear it. I picked up a TomToc sling that has straps anchored like the Day Sling 2 and it's worlds different. The angle of the straps causes the bag to hug your back more making it conform to you and as a result it stays largely in place.

    This one certainly looks nice and well made. I would like to love sling bags but can't say I do. Reason being that they tend to get pretty heavy filled up and are worn over one shoulder. Also you don't have good control over your items carried on your back with leaves them exposed. I prefer a small stylish front carried hip bag with just enough space for a phone, credit cards, keys and earphones etc and a flyweight packable daypack that can be carried over both shoulders for anything heavier.

      @@PackHacker Thanks for your nice reply Rebecca. I use a small hip pack from an asian based brand called Carry-all, great quality at a good price, unfortunately its out of production. Lucky for me I got 2 at once since I had been searching a good while for something just like that. I also use Sea to Summits ultrasil lightweight day pack, its weight is 68 gram and is always with me. This has been my setup for several years and works really well for me. I recently bought a Deuter hip bag thats pretty good to even its a bit bigger than my preferred size. For me a hip bag should have one internal zipped mesh pocket facing the back for credit cards etc. One big main compartment just big enough for a larger phone.This section should also have a key holder. Two small interior open pockets to the front for transportation cards, key cards etc and on outer zipped pocket on the front for coins and bills.

    Do they make it in both left and right handed construction? It seems weird that you can't customize which shoulder it can be worn on, most shoulder slings let you customize this, but also give the added option of eschewing either of the shoulder points to instead connect it to both waist points, thereby converting it into a hip pouch

    I think one important feature for ANY sling is to either NOT have a clip or have the clip, just like the aer, in the front. This way I can wear the sling in the front in a crowded area and not be afraid that someone just clips open by sling and runs off with it. While certainly the strap could be slashed, but opening a clip is much faster.

I have heard this sling does not work as well going over the right shoulder at the top. It’s really the only thing that is keeping me from buying this bag. I might go with the Bellroy I think that would work for my right shoulder placement. I did watch your review and the lack of organization as you guys mentioned might be an issue with me. the only issue that i'm having is where the sling sits on my back. in the product pics, and other fit pics, the bag sits in the middle of the back. for me, the bag is always ending up near my right hip - i guess the weight that is in the bag is pulling the back down (gravity) and the lowest point would be on my right hip
    so...how do i keep the sling on the middle of my back instead of on my right hip? just keep adjusting the straps until the bag is skin tight and unable to move in any direction?
