I think the real problem is that his forehand shots are not as accurate as before. Idk why he missed so many shots cuz a lot of times the opponent's shots doesn't have a lot of spin and therefore should be pretty easy to respond
Lack of speed was his downfall in his later years. As an old-school penholder who only uses one side of the bat, he would need to move quickly to get as much on his forehand as possible. You can't be slow around the table if you're going to do that. I think as the years caught up with him he had to rely more and more on his blocking on the backhand side, as he no longer had the speed to run round it and use the forehand. Whilst he was still good at the blocking, he would often end up making the first mistake if his opponent kept sending their top-spins to that corner, which of course they would always do, to exploit the weakness. He remained a very good player right up until his recent retirement - he played the top division of the British League with much success right into his 50's - but at the higher levels, including playing international TT for Spain, it wasn't quite there anymore.
I don't think age had anything to do with that, he just had a bad day at the office. If you watch videos of other matches he played around that time it didn't happen.
I love the fact that 50+ guy still competes with top ranker. But is his service illegal? It seems that his right hand is not fully cleared and blocking the serving hand.

Juanito is my favourite player and I had the pleasure to meet him once, but he servers illegal all the time. As a left handed player he moves his right arm very, very fast, so the umpires are not aware of it. In the moment of ball-contact the ball is hidden behind his right hand, but only from the perspective of the opponent, not the umpires. But illegal anyway, of course.
I didn´t see a player playing with bare hands (that would be illegal, too, by the way) Which of the Equipment didn´t you like? Vlasovs overpowerd speed glue effect rubbers? Or Juanitos Pips, which are established for ages?
from slow motion videos its possible to see that his arm does not block the contact point as He hits the ball when it is under his hand , and to be fair almost no umpire in the pro lvl cares about service rules

Печально было видеть молодого крепкого парня, члена сборной страны и так жалко противостоявшего в игре с противником, что в отцы ему годится. Разница в возрасте 22!!!!! года! Not too many things you can say He Zhi Wen doesn't do well but in that 4th game, smashing vs the lob sure looked like one of them. 4 points in a row of the lobbing and he won 1 of those. Not sure why He Zhi Wen doesn't mix in a drop shot or maybe an off speed smash. Just my two cents. He's the pro after all.
Something is not right with his equipment, again. I am a short pips player and i can see it's either the rubber or the blade or the combination of both acting up. When that happens the equipment becomes unpredictable. Really pisses me off when that happens.
He used TSP Super Spinpips in this match. Check 2:44 and pause. And grap a pic of super spinpips, compare the two and you can tell it's the same arrangement at the bottom. TSP rubber for sure. He left 802 and changed to TSP. Bit mor speed and spin, easier to counterattack. Maybe his blade is new that's why he's in trouble sometimes.

He Zhi Wen was well over 50 years old here. He missed a bunch of slams that he used to make when he was younger and more flexible.

Yes your correct, does not pull his free arm out of the way until the end of action. umpires should have been replaced.

Too bad, Zhiwen does not know or does not want to do drop shots. He smashed out or into the net when a drop shot would have gotten him a point.
