- Wow! The best Spitfire flying Ive ever seen. Dan Griffith was really gunning the Merlin engine, with the "Spirit Of Kent Spitfire" The sound of that Merlin engine was pure heaven.
one of the most beautiful sounds in the world.
Do you mean one of the kids screaming?

Sound of Victory ✌️
And sights! It truly is one of the most beautiful machines ever created by man.
Totally agree
THE BEST SPITFIRE DISPLAY EVER!!! Why this does not have 100m views is beyond me.
SPREAD THE WORD---AND, SHARE SHARE SHARE.
Without doubt--THE---most spectacular flying display with a Spitfire, in peacetime, EVER ! Everything was perfect, the sound and visuals, and even the weather. It looked like a perfect 1940 summer's day--and where else, but Kent.
I agree!!
This is hands down the best Spitfire video I've seen yet.
Yes,get a real feel of how quick these amazing planes can go in this display
Dan at his finest in the spirit of Kent awesome 👌
Agreed ... 👍 👍 👍
This clip exemplifies the fantastic turning abilities of the Spit. R.J.Mitchell was a man who knew what he was doing !
@soaringtractor 30 mins? That's an even more arsehole comment than your usual crap Wilbur. Of course the Mustang had absolutely no range at all in 1940 coz it didn't even exist. Thankfully Rolls Royce were able to make a half decent fighter out of it. Ha ha. See ya, fuck face.
@soaringtractor not for an interceptor, fighting over home ground.
AND---SO SAY ALL OF US !!
Hard to believe that beautiful machine is over 70 years old the way she tore up that sky!! Awesome display. Looks to be a glorious day with great access also...
Fabulous. As a maid of Kent, born 15 miles from Manston, it means a lot to see the "Spirit of Kent Spitfire" in action in the skies over the county she's named after. My Dad described standing with his father in the garden of their home near Whitstable in the later afternoon of his 13th birthday, 17th September 1940, and watching a large formation of Luftwaffe bombers, with their fighters flying alongside, flying directly above the house, west towards London. He then described watching the small groups of RAF fighters as he put it "tearing into them". Just one small memory of the Battle of Britain.
Update, she flew over our house today, 12th June 2021, heading North over the North Kent coast.
Last year when leaving a farm in Borrowash Derbyshire about 6.30 PM. I stopped to shut the gate onto the A52, and watched an impromptu display by the Rolls Royce spitfire over Draycote. The sun was going down and with a beautiful red sky the pilot twisted and turned barrel rolled dived and climbed etc, combined with the sound of the beautiful engine and the stunning red sky as a backdrop I stood and watched for probably 15 minutes transfixed. It is something I will never forget. And if the pilot - whoever he may be reads this - I would like to give him my heartfelt thanks for an unforgettable experience.
Great Imagery.
You were very lucky , nicely described must have been a worthwhile experience
it looks like that bird could fly forever, brilliant pilot, and that wave at the end shed a tear from my eye, God bless the spitfire :)
I feel that too.
Is there anything as inspiring as a beautiful weapon being displayed to advantage in a peacetime setting. There is no aircraft more gracefully beautiful than a Spitfire. Lovely.
@102137309059424065649 Stop it I'm welling up here--
I agree. They have always been an outstanding aircraft. Those elliptical wings, and the design is just amazing. As always, it maneuvers just impeccably through the sky so gracefully, and at such ease. In a guns only fight, no jet powered aircraft would ever stand a chance. That Spitfire would just spin around, and make short work of the jet. Even with this new fangled "thrust vectoring," no jet can turn inside of a prop driven aircraft, such as the Spitfire, or the Mustang as well, which the Mustang was basically just a slightly modified Spitfire.
@@hughes2397 No, the Mustang is a very different aircraft in several ways. It uses a laminar flow wing that sacrifices manoeuvrability for speed, has a long-range fuel tank, and is much heavier.
If only R J Mitchell knew how much Britain and the world owed him.
yep---but thank christ he was talked out of calling it ''The Shrew'' !!
love the wiggle of wings to say thanks such a beautiful sound
The most beautiful sound ever, goose-pimples!
The most beautiful sounding engine ever made - in the opinion of some people...
At Easter, I went to the Omaka Classic Fighters air show at Blenheim, New Zealand.
It was my first air show since I was a teenager and I could not have picked a better weekend to start going again.
They had three Spitfires there, a sight that hasn’t been seen in the southern hemisphere in more than sixty years, and when the three opened the show on the last morning, and two Merlins and a Griffon flew past, there were a few misty eyes in the grandstand around me.
fantastic.
A display Ray Hanna would have been proud of! That was a tight, energetic display...wonderful to see, and hear!
My goose bumps had goose bumps.
A beautiful lady.
soaringtractor . No he didn't you Yankee oaf. He died a natural death
This video has it all: smooth panning, excellent audio, no commentary, and as others have said the best Spitfire display seen in recent years. With a stiff wind to contend with, Dan showed off the Spitfire at its best... tight turning circles, a knife edge pass (reminded me of Alex Henshaw), and plenty of in-your-face passes. But the best thing for me? The excited kid in the background..... that was me watching Ray Hanna 40 years ago.
Wow!!! This was really an airshow.
Fantastic vid!! Great audio of the beautiful throaty Merlin with the whistle/whine that makes it like nothing else you'll ever hear. Once heard, never forgotten!!
Thanks
Beautiful sweep by the Spirit of Kent.
One of the best display videos I`ve found so far on youtube. The sound of a Merlin at full chat never fails to bring a lump to my throat and make my hairs stand up!
This was a rare powerful Spitfire display, so often they are flown with kid gloves, I suppose the owners don't want too much stress put on the air-frame and engine, but all too often Spitfire displays can be a boring aerial ballet because of this.
@@Wonkabar007 well said, but i can see both views on this.
The noise!!!!!! Goosebumps! How can an engine sound do that?
I think the most beautiful airplane in the world..
+erc2788 I dont think anything comes near it
+MrBuglebuggy Although I love the new Typhoon
+erc2788 Without question!
Bar none in my honest opinion, nor is there any more beautiful music in the world than the sound of a Merlin.
Pala Remzi couldnt agree more mate , if the earliest model had Cannon instead of fucking useless machine guns , We would have won the battle of Britain much quicker. that plane is as close as you get to a Perigrine Falcon !!!
Best spitfire flying I’ve seen since
Battle of Britain Fantastic.
That is utter perfection, precision in design and sheer beauty all rolled into flight ... emotive and breathtaking ... what a plane!
magnificent the best spitfire display ive seen, watching his rudder work a real treat so much faith in the old war bird, great stuff
Beautiful. Glorious. From the days when Britain was truly British.
Now swooping down over the roof tops of Audis, BMW's, VW's and a host of Japanese cars...and yes, I have a VW and a Japanese TV
Thanks for that awesome video and god bless ALL of our service, especially the RAF.
The best video of the most memorable aircraft of all time and the sound is absolutely unforgettable Truely amazing 👏
Best display of a spitfire I've ever seen great flying of the most beautiful aircraft ever made , wish I'd been there!!!
+Alan Jones It was great to see a Spitfire flown really hard showing its true capabilities, usually it slow figure of eight displays at most airshows.
As a Kentisman this makes me proud to have this beautiful Spitfire named after my home.
and why not? speaking as a Westcountryman, Kent will be for ever , link to ' The Battle of Britain ', more closely than any other County.
Have to say Dan you are knocking on the doors of the all time God Ray Hanna and that is serious. Fantastic display. Drifting in motorsport and flying seems to be a new style.
Lots of young brave men distinguished themselves as true heroes in this magnificent machine!
it still looks beautiful but its defo the sound that gives you the goosebumps
I just love old warbirds especially the Spitfire!
Gosh! I cant stop that video, wonderful Spifire sound!!!
Just love those Spits and a sound to die for brings back many memories of the war, what ever they do keep them flying i can sit and listen all day to those wonderful sounds
Wonderful video - really superb ... and NO music!!! Brilliant!
Beautiful.
One of the most beautiful machines ever built - despite its deadly purpose…
What a machine. Nothing comes close to sounding that good.
Agreed, there is nothing like the sound of a Merlin on song, it sends shivers down my spine. The Mosquito rebuilt here in NZ also sounded magnificent with its two Merlins. :-)
Each to their own, but a pity young 'whimpering prattler' can't appreciate it and has to end up abusing others to try and feel better about himself. I'm guessing he is young by the lack of maturity in his comments. (Assuming it is a he?)
@soaringtractor Same engine, you twit.
@@jandal8905 don't feed the troll
@@SamanthaGuttesen Ha ha. But look how many words I made him write?
@@jandal8905 very true
Went with my Dad to the Biggin Hill Heritage hanger and sat in the 'spirit of kent' spitfire, most fantastic feeling ever and a must for any war bird fan.
Youluckylucky Barstool
What a beautiful iconic sight, what a fabulously distinctive sound, a 'Spit' strutting it's stuff, and to someone who wasn't even born 'at the time'
So imagine what it means to those who were....
A very spirited performance by the pilot. One of the best I've seen. Good camera work too. Thanks for posting.
The best all round I'd say--and what a place to do it--Battle of Britain Sky's.
Love the spirit of Kent in my back garden ;-)
Great display and film work. No better way to display a Spitfire than alone, low, close and tight. No music and no commentary.
SO,SO,BEAUTIFUL,,,LOVE THAT MERLIN SOUND,,NEVER FORGET THAT SOUND OF THE SPITFIRE..
Around 2.15 is just such a perfect moment. The base throb of that Merlin, those magical lines and a beautiful English summers day.Wonderful stuff.
Probably the best display I have seen from a Spitfire. Great video! Don't often see the old planes thrown around like this.
@soaringtractor Yes, it can.
@soaringtractor Yes, it can, and you know it.
@soaringtractor Yes, and you know it.
@soaringtractor Poor, jealous little Wilbur.
Stunning. Much love from this New Zealand fan of this glorious aircraft
I sat in this very Spitfire today at Biggin Hill. What an awesome privilege. Best Spitfire display ever (although honourable mention to Ray Hanna when he used to fly between the lamp posts at Biggin Hill air shows of the 80’s...
They do Spitfire pleasure flights from Biggin Hill, Often see them fly around Beachy Head, costs a few thousand quid.
Vintage engineering at its spine tingling finest! brings a tear to a glass eye.
That was a great display, the pilot looked like he was having fun
By far one of the best spitfire displays on here, not often do you see theses machines pushed like this.
TRUE
What a beautiful sound.
Wow what can I say. I could watch this over and over, seems like the pilot was having a lot fun flying this beautiful marvelous spitfire. Great video.
WASN'T HE JUST ??
One of the best spitfire videos I've seen for the noise. Nothing like hearing it in person
''NOISE' ?? the sound of 'MUSIC' !! oh, go on then, GREAT NOISE, THOUGH.
I have never seen a Spitfire bent and pushed and danced quite like this. He is really turning it hard and that Merlin sounds breathtaking ....
Wonkabar007, you are KING !! You were REALLY able to catch that superb display of this fantastic airplane. Can't count how many times I've watched it already.
Don't thank me thank Dan Griffith the pilot, he really showed us how a Spitfire should be flown.
WITH A OH -SO- PRECIOUS AND hISTORIC JEWEL LIKE THIS, IT MUST BE A HELL-OF-A TEMPTATION, FOR ALL PILOTS, NOT,--TO GIVE HER THE BOOT. @@Wonkabar007
Lovely watching her fly. I have had the pleasure of sitting in this beautiful aircraft. Thanks to the Biggin Hill Heritage hanger tour.
I actually got goosebumps watching this !
Absolutely wonderful. Fantastic audio quality. Well done. Tears of joy over here!
Ahhh yesThe mighty spitfire flies again and this video is a great one too.
Oh my god!!! Best video ever! The close up turn just after 3.30 is incredible! Thank you!
As ever wonka.. This is an awesome video.. In fact I was so impressed that after I saw this I emailed Dan Griffiths to express my admiration and he replied and explained that it looks so good because he's flying relatively slowly, but with tight turns, so it looks spectacular but doesn't really put much strain on the plane at all! Not only is he a top pilot, but a top bloke who even replies to emails about his flying! Respect total respect !
Absolutely fabulous piece of video work there too .....excellent skill keeping it in frame all the time with no shake. Well done !
wonderful footage!! I have the hairs on my arms standing on end to the sound of that Merlin engine.. lovely piece of flying, I thought at first he must be pulling alot of G in those tight turns but then read the comment above about the reply from the pilot.. all the same, gotta love this stuff!! :)
The most beautiful sounding plane in British and world history such a beast for it's age 💪
Nice of the me 108 in the beginning and great screaming whistle spitfire display
Decked out in the Normandy (Friend or Foe) D-Day Stripes.
Great!!!! The most beautiful mechanic symphony in the world
To all you brits.
Les never forget the huge sacrifices and toilings that had been made for/ of Britain.
You never shall be ever forgotten of what you and us aka the yanks from America had to do to be free enjoy those freedoms.
Long live England.
Thanks for sharing this, such an awesome spine tingling sound ever to be emitted from an engine, combined with a beautiful aircraft, have loved this sound/sight since I first heard it in childhood, it just doesn't get any better than that.
lucky bastard....i would give my back teeth to even sit in a spitfire never mind fly one....most gorgeous plane ever made without a doubt !!!
BRILLIANT! MANY THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO POST SO THAT WE CAN VIEW!
ONLY THE BEST, EVER RECORDED. LIKE A CLIP FROM ''THE BATTLE OF BRITAIN''.
Great vid!! Beautiful. I could listen to that Merlin engine all day long..
Fantastic video.
Thanks on behalf of all those like me who may never get the opportunity of seeing a Spitfire in flight for real.
Excellently filmed, too. Love the zooming in or out with the blue skies and white clouds.
Brilliant. Watched this display from our back bedroom window
alas never again, it's good night MANSTON & Thank you !
The sound of that Engine!!! By far the most beautiful wwII Aircraft in the World!
Look at the turn radius of the Spitfire. A true dogfighter, and the best looking.
With the 109 dominant in the mid 1930's onwards, and tested in the Spanish civil war. Mitchell knew---the Spit had to be VERY GOOD. He knew what was coming.
Cheers for posting this. I think it must have been Dan Griffiths who dropped in unexpectedly in TA805 on the Rougham Wings and Wheels that same year and did a very similar display. The entire place ground to a halt to watch and listen to it. He wasn't booked in to appear but apparently radioed the tower to ask if he could do a 'quick' display - we were very grateful that he did ;-) Marvelous sight and sound.
What a great display. Beautiful. My favourite machine. Thanks for the vid :)
A awesome war bird...the more gracious...marvelous Spitfire !! ❤❤❤
A thing of beauty is a joy forever...
Thanks for posting this great video.
Iam flying next month with Dan in one, who the hell puts a thumbs down to this !!!!
A CERTAIN INSANE YANK
Beautiful just Beautiful
Great sounding "Spirit of Kent" Spitfire.
+Wonkabar007 Absolutely. I was just getting increasingly annoyed with that kid constantly yelling in the background.
Hey we were all that kid once.... its exciting why shouldn't he be excited too..
Because he is fucking annoying with his constant noise every time the Spit comes by OK
Agree
20 dislikes would be Wilbut Finnigan, snoring tractor, barabum, Mick Gee(k), Ray Hansen and several more anti British fools. Many of them being old Wilbut who uses several identities for his lies.
What a thing of beauty
Very nice, love that Merlin engine!!!!!
Just a beautiful classic war bird!
quel avion !! le héros de la bataille d'Angleterre...remember This plane ☺...!
Beautiful display.
Superb! Your films are the best. Perfect sky too!!
Good to see her flown hard I kniw warbirds are priceless but this is amazing
Spit looks so great with those invasion stripes on its wings.
A SIMPLE, BUT BRILLIANT IDEA, APPLIED ONLY HOURS BEFORE THE INVASION COMMENCED. NO MISTAKING OUR OWN KIND, FROM THE ENEMY.
Surely the most spine tingling aircraft sound ever and the most beautiful of aircraft.
Big White Shark of the skies.
Excellent likeness
That is nice indeed. I heard a funny story about the Dan Griffiths Spitfire display at Manston, apparently it was becoming such a crowd puller to this small venue, causing traffic jams etc, the police put a stop to the Spitfire doing anymore displays there, Dan Griffiths must be the first Spitfire display pilot, to have a restraining order put on his display flying LOL.
Beautiful aircraft beautiful sky what’s with the don’t likes on this must be sad people 👍👍👍
Wonderful - superb display. The spitfire was built to LOOK right, and could not have been designed better with the technology available at that time.
1st class vid, respec.. fantastic sound.
When I was at Wattisham in the early 70s the Historic Aircraft Flight as The BBMF was then called was attached to us for the summer of 1972. Every time we heard the magic Merlin sound every thing stopped saver all watched them. When we went to admire these old warriors in the hangar, were told "look but don't touch". Our Lightning would love to have flown them, only Station Commander Ken Goodwin did so as I once saw him in fly a Hurricane in which he buzzed myself and a mate at low level.
Truly gorgeous. Why are there 17 dislikes as I type this comment?
Absolutely fantastic video, especially through a big stereo with generous volume, goosebumps and neck hair standing on end with every flypast!
Thank you so much.
LOVE THE SOUND OF THAT BIG V-12!
Great flying, great filming. Thank you so much!
