Wires, cords, cables, and gadgets are a pain to organize (and never fun!). In this video, I show you how to easily organize and store all of your cords and cables so you can see them, know what you have, and know where they belong when you put them away.

I found this video incredibly helpful, even five years later. I was able to clear through a ton of old wires and cables, and I reorganized what I had left based on this system (I even bought an identical tackle box via the link). Thanks so much for sharing this, Alejandra!

I think pipe cleaners are better than rubber bands. And they come color coded in craft stores even Wal-Mart. Cute!

I like cable velcro ties that I buy on ebay. The velcro is different than those fuzzy ones - they have holes in one end and you loop through around the cable on one end, and then loop several times around the bundle. Cheap too. These are especially good for cables you use all the time.

Videos like this make me extremely grateful for modern charging standards.
One of my favorite modern luxuries is opening a new device and immediately throwing all the included cables into a tub full of other unloved cables. I would throw them all out, but throwing out a cable is a surefire way to guarantee you'll need it again soon.

Toilet paper rolls (just the brown cardboard part) is another awesome way! You can get an old shoebox or a cheap container and do it that way. You just take the empty roll ( I like to spray some Lysol on it cause you know bathroom germs and air dry them) and you can put your wrapped wires in them label on the outside and put it in the container of your choice. The only expense here would be buying a new container if you wanted too and toilet paper which you buy anyways!

If you can not afford the tackle boxes, and the label maker, an easy way to organize cords is to use zip lock bags (the ones with the plastic slide tab). That way, the cords never get tangled, you can easily see what is in the bag and you can put them in a clear tote or box of your choice and it only takes seconds to look through the bags. Ziplocs are a god send for organizing things that can tangle.

Some people think she is too organized? As long as a person isn't OCD I don't think it's a bad thing. It's better than clutter and chaos... it's nice to know where to find something you need and get back to enjoying life. Especially with all those little do-dads and odds n' ends that always seem to disappear when you need them most... that's frustrating because then you might have to spend money on getting more because you can't find one you already have. Being organized has improved my life.

An empty toilet paper roll is great for keeping a cord nicely rolled up by simply putting it though the inside. It's a free organizing tool! (I covered mine with colored duct tape to give them a nicer look and make them more durable).

I am learning (through an article from a professional organizer that my mom sent me) to organize in slots. So Morning, afternoon and evening list. First make a master list. Things that need to be done on a daily basis
-your household chores. From that master list make a daily list of what needs to be done for that day. So in the morning you may want to load dishwasher and clean counters, mop, etc. Then afternoon something else and etc. Add take time for yourself and don't be a workaholic.

Alejandra, do you ever use empty toilet paper tubes to store cables? say you need to store an extension cord, you wrap it around your hand too, then slide in into the tube. I also use paper towel tubes for longer cords.

They're not technically a tacklebox. They are craft/storage bins. These are made by Art Bin and you can get them at Joanne's, Michaels, Hobby Lobby. They are made really well, so that's all I use for my scrapbooking supplies and tools. They are a bit pricey so you would probably want to use a coupon.

They would probably be alright so long as the tape stays on but if its out of the package the tape can more easily dry up or get caught on things and fall off and if that happens you get a leak and air exposure which will dry out the ink and leave a lovely mess to clean up too.

Alejandra, I love these boxes however I have a large cabinet with all my office supplies and a large drawer for cables/wires- in both cases I would reach into the larger space for what I need... It seems having a top on a tackle box would require me taking the whole box out of the larger space to retrieve what I need- kind of cumbersome... Any thoughts? Maybe the top is removable for the drawer location... But, the cabinet I am not so sure... Help.
