Charge Your Yaesu VX-6R & Other Yaesu Handhelds Using USB C Cable

Found this great way to charge your Yaesu VX-6R or other Yaesu handheld radios using a single USB C cable. The cable is specifically designed to ONLY output 12V or less to your device unlike some that can go over and damage or destroy your radio.
This is a great addition to your comms gear or emergency bag(s) so you can charge your Yaesu HT during an emergency.

Most radios allow up to 16 volts without damage. These connectors charge some Icom radios too. My IC-T8E & V85 charge nicely with it.

The VX6 can take 6-16 VDC input so it’s pretty tolerant. One more reason to love it.

Took approximately 2 to 3 hours charging via the battery bank.

Not sure about the FT-4XR but you can charge your radios on the charging station using this method for the VX-6R and FT-5DR.

what is lisen usb adapter watts out. there are several available on amazon. need one for 12v socket on auto.

The Lisen can do up to 18V which I have used for the VX-6R and my Surface Go 3

Kenwood has a different DC plug but in theory it should work the same. Just get a 12V DC cable that matches the size the F6H accepts.

How do you get 12 volts out of a USB power brick. Isn't USB 5 volts?

There is a small 12v step-up transformer between the radio and the charger.

​@timk7749 The cradle will charge a battery alone, do it with my spare all of the time. I am currently using a wall wart to power the cradle.
