"Not JUST an ACTION episode", but still an action episode. And a darn good one at that! But, like MOST of B5, the bulk of the episode & the Power behind it, was the PEOPLE. (and how they interacted with each other)
I remember the original upload of this review ending with an announcement of a hiatus of B5 content. And remembering that reminded me how we haven’t had a Farscape video since 2016. I miss it.
Goddamn this season was so great. The first time I wasn't sure they could keep up the magnitude of the Shadow War after resolving it but the take back Earth arc might have been even better.
A lot of plots going forward in B5 were left off poorly or only alluded to, and G'Kar and Londo's future relationship from this to very trusted ally at Londo's death is probably the story I regret not getting most.
This is one of the more interesting things to come out of B5. Humans were the leaders of the major thrust against the great powers of old, but humanity in general sat out the war there, creating one heck of a snafu for everyone involved. After all, they want to respect the ones who gave so much to the cause, and yet, their people could easily become worse than the Centauri ever were, especially given the Centauri at least had the good grace to not use the tech of the Shadows in their own vessels. Still disappointed that, thanks to the stats guide giving them ?s we don't actually know how well the modified Earth Force ships would have done against the ships of the other races. Given they took out White Stars, I'm going to guess pretty damn well, and the fact that humans have a greater production capacity than the other races, as said by JMS himself, says that, if it came down to it, and they just left Earth alone for a while, twenty-five years from now, Clark would have emerged with a fleet to sweep aside all other galactic forces. All in all, great stuff.
It was all part of the plans of the Shadows. Humans were at peace with the Minbari and talking with the Vorlons. The Shadows couldn’t kill the Babylon project, so they would isolate it by forcing its crew to choose between the station or Clark’s Earthforce. And if Clark was defeated then they probably would have used the Psi Corp in some manner. But the Shadows didn’t count on someone like Besker having no ambitions outside of protecting his beloved Corp.
@@impcit5717 Eh, I don't see them looking THAT far ahead, honestly. The Shadows were more reactive than that. They did things sometimes without thinking. After all, luring Sheridan to Zah'hadoom was not their smartest work in and of itself, as he had contact with others enough to know what might be up with any version of his wife they presented. I would also like to point out that the EarthForce Shadow vessels were...unique amongst every other allied ship. Even the Drak later only pilot vessels and use weapons given to them by the Shadows themselves, they don't modify them. But Earth scientists not only learned how to control them(The Psi-Corp stuff), but to actually mount their own tech back at them. The comics implied this was all done by Earth itself, as we were seen as irrelevant in the grand scheme of things for the current conflict. In fact we were supposed to STAY down after the Earth/Mimari War, so us not only recovering, but forming the alliance of races? That was something neither side seemed to have a handle on, especially given OG Kosh seemed to have been an outsider, and behind their efforts to assist the younger races without dominating them, if their lack of aid past his death is any indication.
@@KingOfMadCows They are, that's why I think the Modified Earthforce Ships would have torn through them, as we know from info in the tech manuals, and things like statements in Legend of the Rangers, that one on one, the White Stars are a match for anything flying in the Babylon Galaxy(Outside of Older Races stuff). The fact that the Destroyers took out over a dozen of them screams that they would have carved through the ships of the other races easily(Yes, all of them were destroyed too, but the White Stars outnumbered them a lot).

I know that I'm probably in the minority but as much as I loved The Shadow War arc on B5, I love The Earth-Civil War arc just a little bit more. It just gave me a "this could happen here at anytime" kind of vibe. Just imagine what JMS could have done had he been given the full time to flesh out both of those arcs instead of truncating them into a single season.
The trick is to find one soldier whose able to throw hundreds of enemies around him up into the air with a single spear sweep, and tell him to spam that.

Oh hey. Look at that. RUclips offered me this one minute after it was posted. I guess I am contractually obliged to say... AOL?

Aye, the stakes were lower but so much closer to home.
A great deescalation from the apokalypse, something often failed when tried
It really goes to show that you can make the Scouring of the Shire work if you put in the effort to film it well.
This episode and this arc were and are great.

We get it, it just has to be rushed a lot unfortunately.

White Stars do punch far above their weight. Earth ships are huge compared to White Stars.

Civil Wars present delicate puzzles for preexisting allies.

Given how many times I've conquered China (thank you Lu Bu and Xiahoa Dun), I must also be a military expert ;)

For the algorithm!
