- New medication Monday will cover a new medication that has either recently been approved for use in psychiatry or in the process of obtaining approval. These include new novel mechanisms of action as well as some old tricks.

Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video! I am currently a pharmacy student on rotation who, coincidentally, is presenting a journal club on this very topic. I stumbled upon your video when I was trying to learn more about the pharmacology of Kar-XT. If you have any more updates on this topic, I would love to see them! Check out the NEJM study about this. It is titled, "Muscarinic Cholinergic Receptor Agonist and Peripheral Antagonist for Schizophrenia".
I will defiantly check out the article. We need new medication options with different targets, and the muscarinic cholinergic system is interesting. I think there is a huge market for medications that enhance cognition (the most debilitating symptom of schizophrenia IMO) that do not have addictive potential. Thanks for watching
@@ShrinksInSneakers HI. I took shilajit and topamax because I have schizo issue and I noticed it was the only thing to touch my constant fight or flight and briefly enter rest and digest mode when my insanity left healthy cognitive presence came. I searched and found topamax helped Gaba in the brain and shilajit was a parasympomemetic. I then searched medications that were like that and found xanomeline and now I'm here.

@@EMDANAL Thats correct still undergoing phase 2 trials I believe. Schizophrenia drug design is a booming area of research right now. Fingers crossed some new depression and anxiety medications are discovered as well. Appreciate the comment
Thanks for the information doctor. I ask you a question: Is KarXT better than current antipsychotics in terms of negative symptoms? Doesn't it cause weight gain? thank you.
When it will come in the market. I have schezophrenia with negative symptoms and OCD and currently I am on amisulpride 50 mg and am ok with it but can Xanomeline can make me feel better than what I feel now with amisulpride
Same here. However the medicines I take are quetiapine xl and venlafaxine xl
