    23:29 waiting at the entrance to the old mayfield station. Surely they can make a new use for this space. It does seem to be an opportunity in the waiting.

    Keep posting the vids Don. It's great to see the lines I travel on from the cab. Cheers.

    Great view on the new built bridge to connect Piccadilly to Victoria, nice job
    some of my railfan friends are not so happy about cutting the old Stephenson bridge for the new bridge. I don't think so. Mr. Stephenson built the old bridge for making people's life better. if he could know his bridge is out of trend and blocking the development of his favourite railway, i do believe he will be happy about demolishing of his work.

    Lovely video, sir. However, I do have a question: What do you mean by MIA? The reason for my question is that I live in Florida, USA, near Miami. Well, it just so happens that here MIA means Miami International Airport. Whenever you find the time, please let me know what your MIA means. Best to you and thanks for the great videos.

    • @doncoffey5820
      @doncoffey5820  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks for the kind words Jacob. I take a vacation in Davenport FL every year and have visited Miami - a beautiful place. MIA is the station code fro Manchester International Airport. Of course, the airport code is MAN but on the railway here, that was already taken up by Manchester Piccadilly.

    Great channel! Love your videos mate, how long have you worked as a driver for and what do you think of the 185's compared to other units you've experienced?

    • @doncoffey5820
      @doncoffey5820  6 лет назад +5

      I’ve been a driver since 2003. The 185s were built especially for hill climbing and are very well engineered. They are very capable over the Pennines and in the 5 years I’ve been driving them, I’ve never had one fail to the point I couldn’t get it back to base. They have a very spacious air conditioned cab so I can’t fault them.

      @@doncoffey5820 thanks for replying! As a passenger I do love these units, I'll always go for centre coach to get the most from the Cummins power plant (I'm an engine nerd haha) always love travelling to York on them lovely scenery over the pennies! , with the 68's coming In, would you be trained on those too?

    • @doncoffey5820
      @doncoffey5820  6 лет назад +4

      I started training ready for Class 68s but due to a change of plan I am more likely to sign Class 802s.

    Don, did you use a diesel on the outward journey (Man Vic to MIA) and an electric back in this video? Further you did not include station names in either video, l got Oxford Road confused with Piccadilly.

    • @doncoffey5820
      @doncoffey5820  5 лет назад

      Hi Tim. The early videos didn’t have captions but all the newer ones do. I think it was diesel both ways but sometimes we run with an engine shut down.

    Hi Don, is the “Ordsall Cord” like a branch line (ie) other than Main Line .. I assume your on an electric train ... amazing how quite it is.. I never hear any radio traffic, Dispatcher calling a train etc. Looking at all the different routes you post I assume your on the Engineer’s Extra Board.
    I also am assuming your in England, What is the Speed of a Green Signal with a Feather?? Again Thanks for the Ride.. Ed

    • @doncoffey5820
      @doncoffey5820  6 лет назад +1

      Hi Ed. The Ordsall Chord is a main line enhancement that allows trains to pass through all the Manchester stations - not previously possible without changing ends or shunting. The train is a Class 185 diesel multiple unit (that’s one in the thumbnail for this video). The vehicle I’m driving from is around 25m (80 ft) long and the engine is midships, under the floor so you can hear it in the videos when it is pulling hard. It tends to be fairly quiet in the cab unless I have the ventilation fan running and there is a background hum from the computer cooling fans located in the cabinets behind my seat. If you look on a map of the UK, I sign pretty much across the width of the country from Liverpool to Hull and York but there are several variations and diversions that will all hopefully get covered by these videos. There is no set speed for a “junction indicator” with a signal, it is an indication of route. I will be posting some videos that explain certain indications and driving procedures very soon so be sure to subscribe.

      Don, Thanks for explaining, So I read it as the Video MIA to Victoria is all one Town, (City) of Manchester... If this is correct, nothing in Arkansas is that large..

    • @EthanDPW
      @EthanDPW 6 лет назад

      Edward Crawford the airport is just outside the city, one the edge. Piccadilly and Victoria are the two main stations in the city. Have a look on google maps to get an idea for the scale of Manchester. Pic and Vic are about 15 minutes walk away from each other - though there are several other train stations in Manchester.

    • @judethwright182

      I wish they would restore the hourly train between Southport and Piccadilly. Manchester Victoria really sucks and is inconvenient for nearly everywhere you want to go to. @@EthanDPW

    Can someone explain to me why the random rails in the middle of the tracks in the UK? Are they put there on purpose? and why?
    We just dont see that here in USA.

    • @doncoffey5820
      @doncoffey5820  6 лет назад

      It depends what you saw Tim. We sometimes have “check rails” inside the track which are there usually to brace a curve. However, if you are seeing new rail which looks like licqorice, then they are there awaiting fitment in a forthcoming engineering program.

    • @jamesrivis620
      @jamesrivis620 5 лет назад

      I asked the same question years ago. I can’t recall who I asked and if that person would have an accurate response but here is what I recall. I was told that in a case where , if a derailment occurred, it could cause many fatalities that extra rails were SECURED to the sleepers inside the rails that the train ran along which would keep the derailed train basically in line and hopefully restrain it from a catastrophic derailment. The second alternative for LOOSE rails lying between the main two is covered by Don in his response that they were there in preparation for replacing some of the main ones.There is one other possibility in that loose rails left between the main ones were there awaiting collection.I cannot say any of these are correct.
