Which costs less than 5ct in bulk. Its just a way to force you buying online or using a ov chipcard instead. And if you wont, its just extra profit for them.
Having lived there, it also appears to be a method of controlling litter; it's intended to discourage buying single-use tickets, so people (especially tourists) don't leave their train tickets all over the place.
@@GGelixyes, it will automatically charge you, but don't forget to check in/out at one of the poles in stations without ticket barriers (like Schiphol Airport)
Is it possible to cross the validators and exit at another station? I mean if I have a ticket to Central station and want to go one more station (Sloterdjik) to exit there?
Well if the controller in the train can not catch you, you can get off at ams central station without checkin out then you can continue to Any direction you want :)
If you want to really cheese it, buy a one way ticked to the nearest train station (it will cost like 2,70) and you can use that to check in and out at every single train station in the country. As long as your don't get caught

Reason as to why the actual ticket costs an extra euro. The ticket is a chipcard. Two pieces of cardboard with a flexible chip in-between.

You can actually just check in and out with your debit/credit card now, which will also cost €1 less
Real? No need to buy a ticket?

Just tap in and out with your bank card.

Yea…. Just don’t do that. It’s super retarded and arrogant
For about that same price you can travel that route off-peak hours.
Money saved in an honest way.
And finally an NL app that works with a ‘normal’ credit card rather than just iDeal ;)
IDeal is normal in the netherlands. Nobody has a credit card. You cant even get them when your income is lower than a certain amount.

The ticket actually has a flexible chipcard in it. You're not getting a physical ticket so no production cost. Makes perfect sense to me.
