Deftones are definitely their own genre. They’re my favorite band, I’ve seen them about 9 times now I think. Each album is its own, all with undertones of one another. Some are raw and pure emotion some got the baby making groove, celestial feel, etc.
Chino has a few side projects team sleep, crosses and palms also.
There’s a reason pretty much every rock/metal band, plus others have Chino as a guest on their albums. Chino is the man!

This is young Chino, young Deftones. The first few albums were pretty raw. White Pony is when they kind of hit a maturity. It’s a flawless album. Definitely need a little “Digital Bath” in y’all’s life. And “Passenger” featuring Maynard is a must.

This is very early Deftones, alot heavier and raw. They have evolved alot over the years but still maintained there sound. So glad to see you guys discovering Deftones.

Teething and Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away) are two of my favorite deft ones songs. Though ALL of Adrenaline is awesome.

"Around the Fur" is a classic start to finish. "Headup" is the rare kind of song that can make me scream and rage and throw fists at everyone and everything, while balling my eyes out at the same time. Brutal, but not just musically. "When you walk into this world....."

I'd like to recommend Passenger or My Own Summer(Shove It), both great songs. Also Ohms.... If I'm being honest Deftones is definitely a band worthy of a stream. Love the vids by the way!!!

They have so many great songs! My Own Summer, Be Quiet And Drive, Knife Prty, Digital Bath, Passenger, Minerva, Diamond Eyes, Combat, Kimdracula, Hole In The Earth, Beware, Rosemary, You’ve Seen The Butcher, Tempest, Phantom Bride, Hearts/Wires and many many more.
Deftones songs span the whole spectrum. Try Difital Bath, Back To School or my favorite: Tempest.

Deftones is an amazing band...they have so many different sounds but somehow its always distinctly Deftones. They just have their own vibe and it evolves in different ways from album to album.
Love the way you two reacted to this song. When I was a teenager in the 90s I thought this song was so heavy and I didn't get it. It was just totally different from what I was hearing . Now I totally get and love hearing it. Chino said he wrote that song when he was really angry.
I saw these guys at UMass Amherst in 1996 playing with 311 and The Urge. When the heavy part of this song hit, I was in the middle of pure chaos... and it was awesome. Drove home 2 1/2 hours with a few bumps and bruises and still the adrenaline was flowing! 🤘
Also, since I mentioned The Urge, you should give them a listen. Lead singer has a sick sound to his voice and happens to have that dark completion (not that it matters, but just a fun fact).

One of the greatest songs. I loved this song growing up.
I started seeing deftones play around 1994 before their first album was out. That break down would make the club go fucking ape shit. It was so fun to be like 15-16 years old at those shows.
Feb 1996 - Deftones were the opening act for 311. This was my very first concert. What a time to be alive and what a time to be a teen.
Lyrics were miles away from being accurate

I was at an Agent Orange show that was opened by Horace Pinker, and Blink 182. They threw out 7" copies of this song, and I caught one. Got home and blasted it!

Deftones are kind of their own genre in a way. My favorites from this album are Minus Blindfold and Root. Engine no. 9 is also great.
Remember this song was one of their first music videos back in the day. This whole album is fire fam. Engine number 9 is a must so is two weeks. Man the whole album.
I remember when my brother J brought this album home he was like check this out. I listened to it over and over till I knew every song by heart and it was fun to cover them since they were the same style as our Band in a way but we were so young it was hard to get parents to let is perform these songs. But we did anyway at shows we did. God miss those day.
I heard this song back in 95 and turned my Ford Escort around to the local record store and bought the EP.
This song is from their first album, older songs I'd recommend are Nosebleed, Root, Engine No.9, Teething, Lotion, and Headup.

As you keep going into their newer albums, you'll find DEFTONES always hits a different note that would be expected in normal songwriting, yet somehow it sounds even better. it's always surprising. Like, they keep you guessing. The way people speak of JAZZ, but not boring.

For a pleasant sound I recommend Deftones - Hump and Deftones - Answer.
They are very old songs and probably not with good sound quality, but they are pleasant to the ear. Also interesting to see how they have evolved from then to now. For example Answer has clear reggae influence

Their music varies a lot from album to album some are chill some are heavy and some are heavy/chill transitions kind of deal, the singer also plays in 3 other bands "Crosses"(The name is literally 3 crosses), Team Sleep and Palms.

Deftones has been around since the 90s. Their earlier songs were influenced by the times. Chino got into his own head and groove when they separated from shit. Deftones are my second favorite bands behind Tool. Keep listening. You’ll find the genius in it.
