Schools in Europe are very different from other countries especially India where we come from.
All expat parents have to make a difficult decision of choosing between Dutch schools (local language) or International schools (English Language). We went through the same situation few years back and in this video we share our thought process and factors we considered in choosing Dutch schools for our kids.
We live in Netherlands for 12 years and share lots of experiences on our channel "Namaste Amsterdam".

My simple generic question is will they teach math , science or social science or literature in English in Dutch school?

Hi Akanksha, no, all subjects are taught in Dutch. English is treated as a separate subject itself

One question that I have in my mind is that can a kid go with three different languages: mother tongue (hindi), Dutch and English ? Could you please share your views on this. I am also moving to Netherlands soon with my 3.5 year old daughter.

Thanks for the video, really helpful. But I have a question if you could help. Your daughter was in Dutch environment since early age and had some grasp of it by the time school started. My son in already 6 years and has no familarity with Dutch language. We would be moving to Netherlands by end of year, will it be easy for him to join Dutch school or given his age, Dutch school will not be an option anymore?

Hi Vikram, usually if you opt for dutch schools , kids undergo through the Dutch classes for sometime to align with other kids. Its very normal here.

“It’s A Great video with wonderful insights and clearly outlined reasoning on choosing the schools
How abt if we have to return to india/or other countries where Dutch is not primary language of teaching after certain years consider 4 or 5 years. Is not it going to be huge burden on kids?
I am considering to put my kids into international schools despite having all this pros
Pls suggest if I am missing any key factors

Thank you very much for the kind words! We can totally relate to your concern and it’s a very valid thought. Uncertainty about future residence country is a major decision making factor for choosing schools for kids. However, based on our experience ( just our view, others might see it differently), language will not be our primary concern for future of the kids. Two reasons for that : 1. Kids learn English in Netherlands so fast, even our 3.5 years old girl speaks almost fluent English ( for her age) and trust me we never spoke to her in English. They pick it from TV and around 2. Kids are anyways very fast in adapting to languages. We have seen so many examples of people coming from India with kids of higher age like 10/12 and easily getting their kids to the Dutch schools. If I were you, my primary concern in future relocation will be the teaching methods and competitive environment as the European schooling is not as competitively focused on academics but more a balance between practical and theory. I don’t think our kids can survive in the Indian context due to the competition only, language comes easy. Do you have kids starting for school? Also, sorry I did not get your name!

Hello, thank you for your question. Even if a child learns in Dutch and by chance we need to leave the country will that be easy for them to be in english again? Does dutch school teach children English language?

Thanks a lot for this detailed info... Just one generic query. Is fee for International school affordable?? What is the rough range? So, Dutch wud be taught just as one single subject in such school.

      Hello Aparna,
It really depends if you are planning to be here for long term or not? If long term, then dutch schools could be an option.

Its a great video with great info. Just have one question, do you or your daughter face any racism in Netherlands or in school? Your daughter is been going to school from past 5 years or more, did she ever face racism by fellow kids or teachers? i am planning to move but this is one of the deal breaker for me. I dont want my son to face any racism in school which made him coward or he do not want to go to school. If yes, is International schools better like in case of racism and understanding? Thanks for informative videos.

What about supporting kids with their studies. Since we guyz can't speak Dutch fluently, how do you manage in helping with their studies. This was the question in your mind before deciding schools but you didn't mention it later.

Syllabus ka kuch difference or it’s same in Dutch & international school?
Ideally it’s not at par with Indian education system I think and that what is worrisome

    • @namasteamsterdam6958
      @namasteamsterdam6958  2 года назад +1

Hi Soumik, it’s a very good question. Thanks for raising this. Our kids go to Dutch schools so it’s difficult for us to compare with international as we don’t have a lot of knowledge on this. But we will find it out and probably do a follow up video with such details. May be we can ask some parents from international school kids to participate to help. Is there anything else you think we can include in the follow up video? Also, are you currently evaluating schools for your kids?
