  • In this movie length documentary, under the guidance of a master Japanese sword fittings maker, Izumi Koushiro sensei, we make all the fittings for the full set of mountings. The tsuba (sword-guard), fuchi-kashira (pommel and base of the handle), the kojiri (chape of the scabbard), a koi-guchi ring for the mouth of the scabbard. The parts are then passed to traditionally trained Japanese sword craftsmen to make the groundwork of mountings (koshirae; saya (scabbard) and tsuka (hilt), the lacquering of the scabbard, and the lacquering and wrapping of the tsuka. The result is a fully functional katana mounting made with traditional materials and methods that would make a real demon slayer proud!

The sword in Japan is not merely a weapon, it is a sublime piece of functional art, with deep spiritual and historical significance to the Japanese people. Just like Mount Fuji and Cherry Blossoms, the Japanese sword is an enduring symbol of Japan. It is my hope to share my love and passion for Japanese swords with all of you here on RUclips and make the Japanese sword accessible to the world by introducing the Japanese sword to new audi-ences from a Japanese perspective. That is why I created this Channel for the promotion and preservation of Japanese swords and related craftsmen.

*Saya....Ooooohhh.... That silver and plain black combo really works very well. What looks like Herringbone patter on that Sageo is really nice. And I can tell its top quality Japanese cotton. ...The Habaki fitting into the Saya...snug and nice. WOW! indeed. Rob*
