Residence Tax - biggest mistake for foreigners

- It’s extremely scary to be living in a foreign country and unable to pay your bills. A lot of foreign residents here don’t expect that in their second year, they start getting bills for residence tax and their health insurance has suddenly increased. Also worth noting: each prefecture and ward/city taxes you differently, and your bills are based off your income, so there is not one standard price for everyone.

It's interesting how much residence tax doubles, based on salaries that do not increase, and how the government can't figure out why foreigners do not want to pay it.
Your video saved me so much money this week! Thank you ♡
Ahhh I’m so glad to hear that! That was the goal 💗
Excellent video, thank you! This is very important information that I haven't really heard the mainstream JapanTubers talk about.
No problem!!
Thanks for the info. Many people need to see this video.
No problem! It’s important info
Perfect timing... It's my first month working in Japan and I'm so grateful to have this kinds of info from you and other vloggers. Hope your taxes will stop increasing next fiscal year...
Awesome - hopefully this saves you a bit of stress next year! As for me, I hope they decrease since this year I’m only working part-time 🙏🏻
Yes, manifest that decrease and it will happen lol
Hey, I’m getting ready to move to japan. Can you tell me how much taxes and which kind you paid each year? And how much did you have left over to spend after all the bills? These numbers are confusing and I need to know how much I’ll be spending
Thank you for making this video nobody really post information about taxes in japan and nobody not even my employers would inform you about the residential tax.
No problem I hope it was informative!! If you have any specific questions lmk and I can try to help
Great info, thanks! Also, where did you get that shirt? It’s so cute! 😊
Glad someone found this useful! Thank you, it’s from bershka ☺️
Do we need to pay the entire resident tax for year eventough you leave japan early?
Omg thank you for this video. I literally just got my first stack of tax bills in the mail and was just like ????????
No problem!! But I’m sorry you’ve gotten your tax bills 😆
Thank yo' so much love you from India
So which bills are required and not required. I have military insurance issued in america that I can access at military bases throughout japan, so would I need health insurance in japan really?
I assume you’d still have to pay residence tax if you have a visa and don’t live on the military base, but you should check with your job about health insurance! Some companies want to see proof you have insurance before you start working
So weird stumbling on your channel after not seeing you in 15 years 😂❤️
Omg hahaha 💖 are you interested in japan?!
franklin the woman it started with small spaces channels / budgeting channels and somehow here I am but I like your content! Happy for you!!
That makes sense actually 🤣. I hope you’re doing well though!! 💕
question. if you already have house in japan and paying property tax, do you have to pay for residence tax?
Yes, still need to pay residence tax
Are you from the US? Do you file taxes with the IRS and do you pay taxes to the IRS? I know that US and japan have a tax treaty and so if you pay more in japan, you don’t pay taxes to the irs. Ugh I’m confused cuz if I mess up, I don’t wanna go to jail.
Yep I’m from the US. You don’t have to pay taxes in the US unless you make a lot of money, like over $100k but you have to file the taxes anyway
@@franklinthewoman so for my understanding we do not have to pay taxes in the us if we live in Japan we just need to file taxes?
I wil be a student luckily for 2 years dont plan on working. Is it better to buy a house or apartment in Japan. I plan on going to Fukuoka Japan.
Do you mean rent? It might be difficult to buy a place as a student!
Im a tranee in japan..but our boss deducted my salary for residence tax..im just only tranee here not residence.why
Hey I'm thinking about going to Japan on a visitor Visa and then turning it into a work visa what was the process like for you?
Good question! In a nutshell I started interviewing for jobs and some places reject you off the bat and tell you to apply from your home country 😂 it is definitely possible though! I had to do a visa run to Korea once because the tourist visa ran out. I had already submitted my COE before my visa run but immigration still said I had to leave japan temporarily. The whole COE and visa process took about 3 months because Tokyo immigration is really busy. If you go to another prefecture I’m sure it’ll be faster. I have another video about that process: ruclips.net/video/-sGBx7ylzr0/видео.html
But lmk if you have any other questions!
@@franklinthewoman in the video you said save some money before you come here how much would you recommend
At least $5k! When you start working you’ll have to wait at least a month to get paid since salary is monthly here. And moving into an apartment could be costly. I rented an apartment on a month to month basis to start but then when I signed a contract I ended up paying ¥250,000.
Why not just dont get an insurance?
Residence Tax 39000 x 4 = 156000 a year? Shakai hoken pays the Residence Tax too? Thanks
Shakai Hoken is totally unconnected to Residence Tax,
I'm confusing.
My husband pay insurance, pension and all tax and also residence tax because I didn't have work.
but now I don't know how to pay my tax from RUclips Earnings... I get money so I wanna know how to declare tax from my RUclips earnings.
I live in Japan.
I’m so sorry but I don’t know about taxes with RUclips earnings 😔
But if you’re dependent on your spouse and you don’t make much money you don’t have to pay taxes!
@@franklinthewoman yes because my husband already pay all my tax residence,insurance,pension....I have permanent visa.
I don't know well if I have to pay tax about my RUclips income too, even I depend on my spouse. My husband also pay all tax about kid.
The volume was a bit low.
Why did your bf pay $700 a month for health insurance???
He had to join national health insurance temporarily and it’s based on the previous year’s income
Send a lynk for jobs in japan ❤
