Knowing nothing about the subject, I began reading up on axes and hatchets, and watching various videos, and when I thought that I had learned enough to make an informed decision, I bought a Gransfors Bruks Mini Hatchet.
Upon arrival I saw that this was a thing of beauty, a really nicely made tool crafted by the Smith that had originally envisaged it and whose initials it bore.
It felt just right in the hand, and I consider it to be one of my favorite tools, especially when paired with a Silky Saw.
Several years later, a GB Wildlife Hatchet joined the Mini, and again, several years on, a GB Small Forest Axe made it a trio!
I have never regretted my choices and these lovely tools will easily outlive me and be passed on to friends to continue as they began life.

@@felixcat9318 so glad you love you axes and hatchets. I got this mini and the small forest. Such amazing tools and the craftsmanship is top. If i had to add another (and i haven't ruled it out yet. ) It would be the outdoor axe. It would be excellent for crafting and splitting. But I'm happy with my two atm.

Absolute Gem for sure. I have one made by a lady, (IB) Ina Beckman. I even use mine for camp cooking and cooking in the house on the chopping block.

The Husqvarna looks like a great little splitter, and the Gransfors Bruk looks like a crafting hatchet or chicken 🐓 cleaver

Your right. The Husqvarnas bit is so wedged, it makes a excellent little splitter. And the GFB is so sharp it cuts beautifully. Not found any chickens to cleave yet though.

It's such a great little hatchet. So much more then just for decoration. Thanks for watching.

Lot's of stumps around, but not many pine or spruce. I wonder if the American thuja produces fatwood. Thought I saw some in the background there.

Not sure if we have that tree. I found it in downed pine mainly.

300g head can be handy lightweight size.
But this shape without pronounced toe is not good for carving and handle is too short for general purpose.
    It's cute but useless.

I've found it it be really useful. Just as a cutting tool on your belt that has a bit of weight behind it. Also light enough to not really notice the it there.

Hardly useless. It'll limb a branch, split kindling, carve tent pegs and even help prep dinner. It's a GREAT little tool.
