As both an Aussie and Celtic Fan, I was excited to say the least when Ange was appointed. Everywhere he goes, success follows. I couldn't believe the commentary around him joining, but I understand the passion for the club and the expected success; that said, I'm not surprised Celtic are 6 points clear, and I won't be surprised when he holds three pieces of silver at the season's end. The man is a legend.

Great job Hamish, i have just loved watching these old posts on how they rubbished and ridiculed Ange on his appointment - As an Aussie, i have followed his journey from day one and regardless on how many trophies he does win, you have to commend and admire the man for his humility and demeanor in brushing off criticism and just getting on with it ..this will put him in good stead in the wider football circles and no doubt his stock will continue to rise both as a manager and a well grounded and natured human being ! -

Most of us love Ange in Oz, but even here he had many doubters and its only now some people in Oz are realising his talent, it’s obviously understandable that people in Scotland would have so many reservations about a guy that has never been in the mix, which makes it all the more satisfying to have such a pleasant element of surprise, nice work on the channel!

For all the lazy journalism there was around Ange it's worth giving praise to the very few people who actually did their homework and didn't jump on the skeptic bandwagon. There's an excellent video of Gordon Strachan talking about Ange in pre season, speaking highly of him at a time when the entire media were condescending against him. Look it up, it's a really good watch.

I sat in the pub on the day Rangers drew with Hearts at Ibrox and said to my Hoops pals that this title would go down to the wire as Rangers could not replicate the previous season's form and Celtic could not under perform so badly. So it would come down to the Old Firm games. This is how normal people work out football results. And the minute Rangers started going further in Europe than Celtic - that put it beyond doubt. It happened in 2003, 2008, and now in 2022. Go far in Europe, lose the league.

What people fail to realise is that Ange and his teams dominated in a competition with a salary cap so small it was ridiculous. He didn't buy his teams he built them with players that would fit his style. Didn't matter that they weren't household names they just fit. I follow Celtic and I'm very happy they are doing well under Ange and more importantly playing football the right way. With due respect, we are talking about Scottish football. Scotland is small and relatively poor. Her team hasn't qualified for a World Cup for 25 years. The better players go South and don't play in Scotland. Most of the nonsense about his appointment from the likes of Alan Brazil flows from a bizarrely inflated view of the standard and importance of Scottish football. Someone who has coached Australia at a World Cup and won titles in Japan is overqualified for Celtic, not underqualified.

Like many other Aussie Celt fans here I was excited but also a bit fearful because of the state of the club at the time and whether he would have enough time and support to have an impact. The fact is he is a serial winner and he’s been successful again although quicker than many of us thought. Great person great manager. Now the club hierarchy needs to give him a longer contract and get right behind him. Where he’s had issues like with the national team it’s because of lack of support and vision from the suits in charge. PS my main concern now is that EPL clubs will come calling. I’d like him to have at least three seasons before that happens, and it will.

  • @johnstirling6597

To be fair, Anges appointment was a bit out of left field, an unknown (to most pundits) Australian of Greek heritage who played in the old Australian league (certainly not one of the worlds top flight leagues) , had managed a couple of teams in the new A league and the national youth and senior teams then lobs into Celtic from Japan. People who have followed his career know what type of man he is and the love of the game he has. I would bet that after this year he is on the radar of all the English and Euro leagues right up to the Premier league as a possibility to be considered.

Aussie fan just with a genuine question for Celtic fans. Now you've witnessed the quality of Ange and the Japanese imports how do you think Celtic would do in the J-league hypothetically? Ange winning that league (and the Asian Cup with Australia) didn't seem to count for much a few months ago.

    • @JamesBond-si7xs
      @JamesBond-si7xs 2 года назад

      That’s an interesting question mate.
Placing Celtic into a completely new environment such as the J league is intriguing.
Having not seen too many Japanese games, the only thing I would say is that the physical aspect of a team from Scottish football would be an advantage, but, other than that, and, based on the current squad, I think they would do fairly well.
If Ange, however, recruited more players from that side of the world, then, it could be pretty successful.
The J League is a very decent competition, with many good players.

The quality of the Japan world cup teams of the last 2 decades has been higher than Scotland (understatement) but there's only a handful of Scottish players in the staring 11 these days. Another question arises in how well would the Japanese teams do against Scottish teams other than Celtic and Rangers. Pretty good. (another understatement). Remember critics always speak up. As an Aussie that wishes Ange was still the Socceroos boss it seemed obvious to me that he'd get Celtic back to the top and winning by playing awesome attacking football, just like he did at Brisbane, Melbourne, the national team and Yokohama. Sadly I'm also a Man Utd fan and the cluelessly catastrophic Glazers wouldn't have even heard of Ange so although I'd love to have him at Old Trafford he's probably still 'too low under the radar' for real football experts like them and the Muppets that misjudgedhim from the start. To the Bhoys fans, enjoy him while you've got him as he's truly special.

As a Celtic fan, this comes across as petty and bitter. I shouldn't be surprised. Also, quite hard to rub it in the doubters faces when Rangers are in the Semi's of the Europa Cup.

After the saga that was Eddie Howe and after Ange was named as a target I did some Googling and it was apparent from what I found that Ange is a more successful manager than Howe, he has won more trophies than Howe and has a better win ratio than Howe, at that point I thought why not, a new fresh face and ideology from an up and coming manager, so delighted I was right and he quickly got Celtic back playing great football and he is such Gent. Who would have thought this season we would have been looking at winning anything and here we are looking at a possible treble. HH.

I done the same as a lot of fans in the comments I looked up his history and thought he would be decent. But I’m blown away at how good a job this man has done in his first season, being left with a bombscare of a team.

I was guilty enough not to know anything about Ange, could even pronounce his name at his appointment. Once I looked him up, saw what he was about (the famous Foster interview comes to mind), it was clear the guy is a serial winner. There isn’t too much of a gulf in quality between the J-league and the SPL.
Never wanted Howe anyway, shouldn’t have to twist a manager’s arm to manage a club like Celtic

Postecoglou grew up on a massive unrelenting diet of anglo-celtic racism. There's not much the Glaswegians could throw at him that he hasn't heard before-even if he could understand their language.
With rolling one year contracts, doubt Ange will stay beyond the second season. The SPL is a two team league after all.

I have been wondering when this video would come out and Ive just seen it now. I'll admit that I was one that was raging at Postecoglu being appointed, but it wasnt anything against him as a man or a manager. It was more the rage that our board dragged their feet on Howe for months after keeping Lennon too long, then paniced and went cap in hand to the city group.
Make no mistake, the board got extremely lucky with Ange. A pure fluke and nothing more. What he's achieved has been despite the board, its nothing short of outstanding on the domestic front this season. Handed old coaches, poor training facilities, terrible youth management system, a new ceo (who then chucked it / was chased out the door), half the squad wanting to leave, the club captain gone, the major shareholder wasting money signing a couple of dud irish players etc etc.
I had my concerns early doors on Ange as well. Everything we heard from the aussie journos was all about "Ange wont change his style" "his way or the high way" etc. He has been nothing like that. He has changed and adapted as the season has gone on, we havent been all out attack every second of every game. Weve been pragmatic and ground out many of our victories, we have consolidated when in winning positions as well. So what we were told hasnt been what weve seen this season. Im not sure we could have picked a better manager for celtic that would have come here to be honest.
Hopefully he is backed properly in the summer (the champions league cash and that 25million in the bank means we can afford serious backing) His hit rate in the players that he has he signed is phenomenal as well. Over to you Celtic board....

When u see clubs in Europe give ex players a head coaching role with no experience its make me laugh when they all come down on a coach who's won every where he's been! Football is played on the whole planet...not just in Europe!
