I'm a Youth Exhibit Guide (volunteer program) at the Aquarium and I absolutely loved watching this video! It was nice to see someone enjoy the aquarium (and actually read all the signs!!). I will also say that the lizard in Australia is always staring out that window. He loves his harbor view.
yo!!!!! ive been thinking of signing up for being in the youth exhibit guide, but this is the 1st time ive actually seem someone on the internet whos participated :0
any chance u could give me tips for applying/working there if it is not too much 2 ask
The strange looking animal you saw from the underwater viewing area of the blacktip reef exhibit was one of the 2 wobbegong sharks. Very rare to even see and even rarer to see free swimming as they normally are hiding in the shadows. For reference, I'm a volunteer at the NA and in the 200+ times I've checked on the exhibit, I've seen a wobbegong shark like 10 times and I've yet to ever see one free swimming.
Peter Chermayeff who designed the National Aquarium also designed the Lisbon Oceanarium, Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan, New England Aquarium, Duesseldorf Aquarium, and the Tennessee Aquarium. The National Aquarium is especially reminiscent of the Tennessee Aquarium because of the roof design, the escalator that takes you to a top room, and the multi level room with multiple tanks.
Blacktip reef is probably my favorite tank design because it's made like a koi pond and it's not round or a dog bone shaped tankit has deep reef wall than the shallow sand with many coral colonies all spread out and the complex shape of the tank encourages the animals to swim in all different directions and this is probably the most accurate coral reef exhibit anywhere. I say it's made like a koi pond because of how it's built into the ground.
Worked there for a little over 20 years. The main building opened in 81. The dolphin pavilion in 90 and the Australian expansion was in I believe 05.
Yeah, 05 was when I worked there during construction
I go here often when I can. It’s really nice and relaxing walking through each exhibit.
Is there easy parking?
@@anamyaseen1947no lmao
Thanks for showing off my city that I love!
I was just thinking about this aquarium and then you uploaded this. I'm so happy. Thanks.
Another awesome oceanarium video as always 👍👍👍
I’m watching because I’m going there tomorrow lol
This was an awesome video!!! You are so good at explaining all the exhibits. My son and I really loved it! ❤
Thanks for the kind words
You and Molly are Awesome. Thanks for the terrific videos. I'm taking my family to the Kalahari in the Dells in a month. Next summer Destin.
Have a blast at the Kalahari, super fun place
I got to visit there in the mid 80s. It was fantastic then, looks even more so now.
This is my home aquarium, kinda. I live in Northern Virginia. There used to be an aquarium in D.C, but it wasn't very good.
Thanks for the great aquarium and zoo videos !
I wasn't impressed when I went as a kid. I thought the sharks looked sad, lol, but I feel that I would appreciate it better now.
Ugh, last time I went was for my birthday when I was 12 and obsessed with Harry Potter and H2O😩
that final overhead view of blacktip reef is my favorite place in the fish building.
Thanks for another fun video! 😉
They definitely rent out that room with the view of the harbor, as recently as a decade ago they used it as a small food court as well.
"Posing for us here: a crocodile!"
Crocodile opens eye, thinking "Somebody call? Oh my gosh, I'm on camera!"
This aquarium is really cool. I wish I could go there.
I've been there once. I like the Newport aquarium in Kentucky more actually.
@@miked7212 the only aquarium I’ve been to is one at Sea World.
@@eristineforever6934 that's cool. I went to Sea World of Ohio in the 1990's.
@@miked7212 I went for the first time back in 2018, I think. Maybe it was 2019. It’s one of those two. I’m so bad at remembering things.
@@eristineforever6934 that's great! Thanks for telling me that!
Never thought i'd be this guy, but now that I have kids, they don't allow strollers here! We're planning on going, and one of my kids isn't walking yet so we're gonna be lugging around a 27 pound baby for two hours. Lol. Still looks amazing.
The building out the window in Dolphin Discovery is my condo building where I live!
I like all animals
Last night me and Lily dreamed about The Aquarium we saw many magnificent and wonderful sea creatures such as fish, coral, sharks, whales, dolphins and many other creatures.
you also get every possible perspective of the blacktip reef
Great video!
I've been there a couple of times and it's absolutely amazing ❤
Is there easy parking?
I think so. I haven't been there in probably 10 years or more.
Ive been there's at least 8 times. You should appreciate that you didn't have a crowd blocking all the exhibits lmao. Its a magical place though for real.
I created a similar video on my RUclips page from September 2020 at this aquarium. Not a lot has changed. Great video.
Just saying, you're the legend oh yea.
the orientation of the aquarium is a little messed up here. The viewing room over the inner harbor is actually a small cafe area and the big "girf shop" after the jellies is a food court. The 4D movies are really fun, they play some documentary type about 20 minute clip.
I have been to this aquarium many times
Hey, my home town
Once the pandemic is officially over, I highly recommend going to the Rosamond Gifford Zoo in Syracuse, New York. It's got a good sized collection of animals including Asian elephants, red pandas, Amur tigers, Humboldt penguins, and siamang gibbons. I only recommend waiting to visit after the pandemic is over because most of the animals are indoors and there's only one indoor exhibit open at the moment.
I haven’t heard of that one, will add it to the list
@@IntheLoopPodcast Cool! Oh yeah, and Syracuse is also home to the Destiny USA Mall which has attractions like Wonder Works, Canyon Climb Adventure, and The Amazing Mirror Maze
3:23 Ahh! That’s an Australian Lungfish.
Wow
I worked on the remodeling there. Worked on the rainforest area mostly; however that whole area is maybe 12 to 15 years old if that.
Next time you go to Cedar Point swing over and check out the Toledo Zoo.
Ill be going here with my girlfriend soon! Im so excited
My wife left me and this is giving me respite
Daytime we can go to stop and shop to buy some red dial hand soap doup soup and pasta orange
I want to go at nighttime to go to cvs pharmacy to get md
Used to cost 10$ to get in. That was like, 2010.
Blue National Aquarium
Blue National Somr Aquarium
do you have a video of Houston zoo and moody gardens
I love going to those two! I hope he does a video of them
Got a video coming on both
@@crispwater7294 same here
@@IntheLoopPodcast oh ok
I’ve been there before in 3rd grade and I got to touch a stingray (I also almost got lost in there with my friends)✋😭
Is the huge turtle that in the big reaf tank still there? I didn't see it in the video.
I don’t remember sorry
@@IntheLoopPodcast ok, thanks!
Calypso passed last year
@@alle8047 ok thank you! I use to like seeing him everytime I went. I haven't been in years.
ok i've never seen a dolphin irl but it's weird that you guys dont have whale sharks or moon fish there, in portugal (my homecountry) we have 1 of ech i think in our center piece and they are the most impressive fish to watch swiming around, nonetheless very very cool video
In the US only one aquarium has whale sharks in it (Georgia Aquarium)
The dolphins are the Atlantic Bottlenose dolphins. They live off the coast of Maryland. They go up and down the east coast of the USA.
I have seen dolphins in the wild
its probably because the aqurium was built on the inner harbor so theres not much room to extend for the size of the aquarium suitable for a whale shark
What's the price for adults? I haven't visited the aquarium in over a decade.
$45
Do they have food there, and is it pricey or affordable
I’m not sure on that one
They do! Typical kinda food court food, fish sandwiches and pizza and such. Kinda pricey but def affordable (less than a larger theme park or smth), my family always packs peanut butter and jellies (but u can't bring food inside so u have to eat in the car lol but we also have a 6 person family)
Chers
National Aquarium Park
If anyone says you aren't who isn't you know
I love you
ok does he sound like kermit?
This definitely wasn’t built in the 90’s I have been going here in the 80,s
I went here in 2015. I really liked it! I am just glad that I got out of the city just in time. Only a few days later, due to Freddie Grey’s death, there was unrest everywhere.
national aquarium
Sooo we're all going to ignore how hilarious the the name of that fish is?
That Australian exhibit was so bad. Never should you have all those species of reptiles in one enclosure. That ackie monitor didn't look in the best shape.
This place charges an arm and a leg.I guess they want to keep out the local riff raff.
I would agree that the admission price is steep, but it’s pricing is in line with the other large, well attended aquariums in the country
The price is worth it! It’s a wonderful aquarium! It’s something my city is known for.
The membership price is a pretty good deal if you live in the area.
@@brentrussell1209 My family has a membership since we live within walking distance to the aquarium. We take my two nephews quite a bit.
What zoo or aquarium or theme park are you going to next
Heading to Pigeon Forge Tennessee next week will go to the Ripley’s Aquarium there
@@IntheLoopPodcast That one is newly built, right?
