Good video. That note makes a difference and changes the complexion of the scale

Just a curious question. I've seen the major blues scale ommitting the major third. In the case of the video, C major blues scale would be (C,D, Eb,G, A) while the minor variation would be (A,C,D,Eb,E,G). Here you keep the E included in the Major C blues scale. Is there a nifty little explanation for this? I've also heard you could mix and match the minor third and the third in the major scale, but not necessarily in the minor blues scale. Thoughts?

And for context here is the pentatonic major and minor scales
    Pentatonic major: C D E G A C'
    Pentatonic minor: C Eb F G Bb C'

Hi Isaac, that's the MINOR Blues scale and I'm describing the MAJOR blues scale. Major Blues scales add a b3 to Major Pentatonic and Minor Blues scales add a b5 to Minor Pentatonic. Hope that clears things up for you. Let me know if you have any questions. A

@@SaxophoneMasterclass Thanks clears it up never realised there was major and minor blues. You got a new subscriber 😉
But then this are the same notes for A blues scales (minor now) how does that work out?

@@isaaconi56 No problem! The way it works is, as you may or may not know, every major scale has a relative minor scale.
      For example C Major is C D E F G A B
      And A Natural Minor is A B C D E F G
Identical notes but one starts on C and one starts on A.
The same goes for Pentatonic scales:
      C Major Pentatonic = C D E G A
      A Minor Pentatonic = A C D E G
Identical notes, but again one starts on C and one starts on A. A Minor Pentatonic is relative minor of C Major Pentatonic and vice versa.
When we get to Blues scales, the same occurs.
      C Major Blues = C D Eb E G A
      A Minor Blues = A C D Eb E G
Identical notes, one starting on A and one on C.
When people say Blues Scale without referring to minor or major they usually mean the Minor Blues Scale, which is probably why it was confusing at first.
      Hope that all makes sense!
      Alexander
