Thank you so much for this. I just started to learn the saxophone and I noticed the octave key on the neck wasn’t opening on some notes. I thought I already broke my saxophone but you just clearly explained everything in a short amount of time making me now know that my saxophone is in good working condition. Again, thank you for making me less stressed :)
Thank you so much for sharing your musical and technical knowledge, you make everything feels so intuitive, accessible and logical. Love the way you explain!!!
It dawned on me as I was watching this video that I've never really paid attention to when that top vent key opens. I've never had a problem with the octave key that would cause me to draw my attention to it. Now I know how it should work properly. Thanks.
Hi Alexander! I ve noticed as I started practicing F Magor in two octaves. Adagio by Albeoni has all four those high key in notes. Brilliant music peice to master them! 😊
Great video! I'm a complete beginner, only played for a 3 hours lol. Whenever i try play the A and engage the octave key it sounds ridiculous. Gurgled almost. Any idea why?
If you just started David, you need to focus on the middle range of the sax! A with octave key is hard to get for beginners. Check out this video here to learn more: ruclips.net/video/ALNObcGkI6I/видео.html
I am a beginner using a relatively cheap instrument. At times my octave key "sticks"- even though the valves open and close the notes don't change. Either I stay in the octave range or the "normal" range. I'm starting to suspect this has something to do with my embouchure. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong? Is this a common beginner problem?
It's hard to say exactly without seeing you and your instrument! I suggest getting someone with more experience playing to try it out and see if there's anything wrong with the sax.
@@SaxophoneMasterclass Greatly appreciate you taking the time to respond. I will do exactly that. I noticed the lower octave valve has a tendency to stick, but I'm also finding my embouchure to be a deciding factor. I'm sure I'll figure it out!
Sounds like you need to unstick it by pulling paper powder through the valve! Or a cloth or one dollar bill! Just place the dollar/cloth/paper in between the key and the valve and pull it through 2 or 3 times and it should unstick. Otherwise take it to a repairman!
Boy, do I ever feel silly now. All the same I am still going to burn incense sticks in the shrine around the effigy of Adolphe Sax. I'm still convinced the is some Voodoo like magic that lurks around the Octive Key.

You're welcome!
Very interesting. I'd never really noticed. Cheers
Yup! I didn't think much about it but then a lot of students were concerned it wasn't working properly!

Mechanically it makes sense to me. Now get me to not constantly invoke the lower octave as I'm blowing. LOL.
I keep squeaking when going down from D to C#!!!!!! What am I doing wrong???? I do it about half the time

I thought I broke it😅
