  • The first-generation Chevrolet Camaro appeared in dealerships on September 29, 1966,[5] for the 1967 model year on an all brand new rear-wheel drive GM F-body platform and would be available as a 2-door, 2+2 seat, coupe or convertible with a choice of six-cylinder and V8 powerplants.[6] The first-gen Camaro would last up through the 1969 model year.
The Camaro's standard drivetrain was a 230 cu in (3.8 L) straight-6 engine rated at 140 hp (104 kW) and backed by a Saginaw three-speed manual transmission. There were 8 (in 67), 10 (in 68), and 12 (in 69) different engines available in 67-69 Camaros. And there were several transmission options. A four-speed manual was optional, replacing the base three-speed. The two-speed "Powerglide" automatic transmission was a popular option in 1967 and 1968 until the three-speed "Turbo Hydra-Matic 350" automatic became available starting in 1969. The larger Turbo 400 three-speed automatic was an option on SS396 cars.
There was a plethora of other options available all three years, including three main packages.

I like the large drawing on the rear wall. I guess they increased the ride height later on (see low height at 4:40)

I find it surprising that even in 1965-1966 engineers had access to CAD, CAM and CAE. Probably not as sophisticated to what is available now, but still interesting nonetheless.

The RS headlight doors are electric in 1967, operated by series of relay and limiter switches not vacuum that was 68-69...just sayin

I drove the 1967 Rally Sport model. The RS and the SS (Super Sport) were the ones with headlight covers operated with engine vacuum (sometimes they get stuck closed).

The hideaway headlights were part of the RS package. If an SS had them, it had the RS package as well. Plain SSs had the regular grill with round park lights. I used to have a 67 base coupe and currently own a 67 SS/RS.

Those were the days, I had 2 67 RS Camaros, one I bought the body and put in a 427/425 engine, 456 gears and a 4 speed-- Still those cars from that era were rust buckets and it was common for them to start rusting in maybe 3-5 years, especially around the rear quarters as so many had 'bondo'

Never see them day's again when you can buy a vichle in the showroom for under 4000....if you do it's going to have over 180 some hundred thousand miles

Nope but I remember them and it was a good time unless you were in Nam. My father and I worked on his cars every few months because they needed tuning up more often. To me it was so much fun going down to the auto parts store and buying plugs, wires and points and making his cars pur again. I remember getting gas at 26 cents a gallon in 67.

    0:54 top left looks like a 70's Cuda??? Strange....long before it existed. I'm a chevy guy tooo....weird.

It does. Have you seen that movie " Vanishing Point" ? Its about a guy driving a 70 Challenger and in the last scene it drives into two bulldozer buckets and if you slow mo that scene right before it crashes they used a 67 Camaro. I thought what a waste. BTW I had a 70 SS 350 4 speed Camaro with a 4:10 rear and the engine and drivetrain was the exact same as the 69. I heard they were so late coming out with them that the used a lot of the 69 parts.

Total BS on the rear leaf springs being the best design. Basically they cheap out. They could have done a 6 way adjustable coil over design on a ladder bar or 4 link
